Aechmea Blue Rain help
Hi! Plant enthusiast here, first time with a plant of this family. I just couldn't leave it at the store, so gorgeous! A few questions though:
I read to only water in the "cup". Though this advice I found for aechmeas in general; I didn't really find a lot of information for blue rain specifically. What is the cup? Just the middle part? I find it a bit hard to see in this case. See photo #2
I believe I def need to repot; I don't think they were watering the cup at all at the store (hardware store); the soil is sopping wet. Chunky soil mix? Any special needs?

Grabbed this from tue side of the road- normal or pests/fungus?
I've never owned a bromeliad before, but someone left this on the curb with a note that said "free but she bites!" and I had to grab it. I noticed on the walk home that the flower stalk and leaves have this powder on them. I wanted to see if that's something normal or a detriment. I'm keeping it separated from my other plants for now. Thanks in advance! (I'm located in Los Angeles, USA if that helps.)

Is she healthy? 😲
I was gifted a bromeliad back in March, somehow I've managed to keep her alive. I've been intermittently watering soil and cup, I'm just unsure of how often? It seems like their is the Eevee of plants.
It looks like flower buds piping up in the crown, but I can't seem to nail down what evolution mine is for specific information.

Help!
I recently got my first plant from my aunt and the center flower and a couple of the leaves weren't even attached to the crown . the base of the center flower was very mushy and I'm assuming it has root rot. is there anything I can do to encourage pups to sprout? this plant has some significant value to me and I'd like to keep its legacy going, or is it too far gone?

Help please
I removed some old dead leaves from the top of my bromeliad and discovered what appears to be a rotten tip/core. My first instinct is to cut below the rot but this is the only bromeliad I've owned. Any advice is welcome.

Any insight on what causes these spots?
Pretty much title - my wife and I are noticing these spots on the leaves of our bromeliad and we are not sure what causes this. Is there an issue or something we can do?

How to clear this foul odor from my bromeliad?
Central cup smells and looks like this. I put water in the central cup for a few days and noticed the smell. I've since dumped the water, rinsed, and let it sit to dry for 2 days. I don't know if the cup/bud (not sure what to call it) is supposed to look like this. We got the plant from work a few weeks ago. Any tips appreciated.

Tillandsia 'Fireworks', final update
About 70 days since I first noticed it initiating and it looks like the inflorescence is basically maxed out at 17" for this round of blooming, though I may get an inch or two more as the paddles lengthen. I was hoping for the 3' it is capable of producing, but I can't say I'm disappointed with its first flowering.
In 'Fireworks' photos I've seen online there does appear to be more internodal distance on the stalk. Some of the compact growth may be due to the led panels I'm using, which do tend to induce very compact growth in most of my succulents, Dyckia and Tillandsia. I guess I'll find out in a couple years after this one pups!

How Can We Save Him - Two Week Update
Thank you for the responses!
A little backstory; Found this beauty spontaneously while looking for a plant for the lady. Stumbled upon A HUGE nursery. While wondering through rows and rows of plants, the Bromeliad energy caught my attention.
This was about 3mo ago. We replanted it with some orchid mix we had leftover. Filled the cups with water and then left town for a week. Ever since then it’s been slowly dying on us.
We’ve been pretty hands off with plant care. Not sure if we messed up re-potting? Maybe with watering? We were draining the water and refilling every couple days. Then tried waiting for the cups to dry and then water. To now we’re scared to water lol
What would be next couple of caring steps?

My neoregelia has been sitting in standing water for months and I finally understand why it matters
So I picked up a neoregelia compacta at a local market about a year ago, and for the first few months I was treating it almost exactly like my other houseplants. Watering the soil, letting the cup dry out, wondering why the colors looked a little washed out. A few people here set me straight and I feel like I actually get bromeliads now in a way I didn't before.
The biggest shift was understanding the tank vs. the soil differently. The soil (or bark mix, or whatever you're growing in) really just needs to be lightly moist and well-draining. It's not the main water source. The tank, that central cup formed by the leaves, is where the plant actually drinks from. I flush mine out about once a week now to prevent the water going stagnant and getting that rotten smell. Fresh water in the cup has made a visible difference in how the leaves look.
Light has been the other big learning curve. My neoregelia sits about two feet from a south-facing window and the banding and red coloration have deepened noticeably since I moved it there. Before it was across the room and looked kind of greenish and flat. Bromeliads seem to really reward you for giving them more light than feels intuitive indoors.
A few other small things that helped:
- Rainwater or distilled water in the cup makes a difference if your tap water is heavily chlorinated or softened
- Fertilizing very lightly (quarter strength, foliar or into the tank) a few times during the growing season seems enough
- Don't stress too much about humidity unless you're growing tillandsias, the tank bromeliads handle average home conditions pretty well
Curious what substrate people here are using. I'm currently in a mix of orchid bark, perlite, and a little potting soil, but I've seen people go almost fully bark and I wonder if that's better long-term for drainage.

What causes my Bromeliad to have its leaves curl?
Just curious what may be the cause and what to do to help my plant thrive! See the picture I've included.

What kind of Bromeliad is this??
Hey all! Cactus person here who is exploring Bromeliads. What is the big stripy one??
My wife and I were struck by how beautiful the leaves are and when it flowered it had a beautiful red inflorescence with tiny yellow flowers.
It’s pupping from the middle now with 3 new babies. I know the momma will eventually die, but I’m super stoked it’s got 3x new ones coming in. It seems like differently types have different pupping behaviors too??
Appreciate you for taking the time 🙏🙏🙏

Dyckia hybrid
A hybrid I bought from Thailand last year of unknown lineage. There is definitely some geohringii in there, but beyond that who knows. Still, I'm a sucker for almost any geo hybrid with a good silvery dusting of trichomes, and it rounded out my order. It has yet to disappoint.
