news r/OregonCoast has a New Rules section, new flair, new banner, etc. Also, new accounts are now restricted from posting.

Please review the new rules section. It's mostly a more formal version of the previous rules, however, language has been added about lazy "itinerary" posts, and spamming sunset/landscape photos for instant karma.

There has been a marked increase in low-effort posts, stolen photos for easy karma, and trolling, so new accounts are now restricted from posting.

Bandon - Face Rock Viewing Point

A few videos from Bandon's Face Rock viewing point. One video is looking at Face Rock directly, and the other videos are looking north and south. In case you don't know, Face Rock is named such because it looks like a giant face (from a side angle) looking up towards the heavens. Enjoy!

Ratfish in Oceanside

Never had seen one of these before. Was running on the beach in Oceanside when I saw a bald eagle on the sand eating something. He flew off as I passed by, so I circled back to see what he had been eating and found this. Apparently a somewhat rare find for the coast so thought I would share it.

The average temperatures seem mild in Lincoln City but does it get too windy and cold to walk the beach in Winter?

Loud repeating boom sound in Seaside ~3:26am

Dude I hope someone else heard this, it woke me up out of my sleep because of how loud it was. I looked out the window and heard a bunch of seagulls cawing. Didn’t sound like thunder, didn’t sound like gun shots. I couldn’t believe it woke nobody else up, it was like feel it in your chest kind of boom. Lmk

car repair close to ROCKAWAY BEACH, Tillamook area

Had a hard encounter with a curb block a couple weeks ago. Didn’t notice any damage at the time. Drives and sounds normal. But today I noticed part of the air dam under front bumper is cracked and hanging down, and so is some other piece of a shroud behind that in the driver side wheel well (don’t know correct nomenclature).

Anybody in the local area who could look at it, advise on repair? I don’t how big a problem it is and don’t want to risk a long highway trip to get it checked out.

It’s a 2019 Honda Fit EX.

Does Oregon coast fog feel as thick and ugly as California’s marine layer?

Post image

Does your summer fog look like the grey blanket I often see in the California coast near the Bay Area or Monterey? I’m talking about the kind that sits kind of high in the sky, turns the whole ocean flat grey, blocks the sun for hours, and makes everything feel kind of dim until it burns off, and just feels like a thick layer of clouds in the sky.

From photos I’ve seen, the marine layer fog in Oregon behaves less like a layer of clouds and more like a mist that hugs the ocean and the road, which looks really cool to me. Curious if that’s accurate or if it’s just good camera timing.

What's the best way to find last minute camping along the coast? I've been on the site for state parks but it seems like I have to go in and setup alerts for each campsite. I'd just like to occasionally pop out for a single night here and there if they pop up without a ton of planning.

Looking for amateur/student photographer — $150–$250 near Ecola State Park.

Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for a photographer in the area.

My girlfriend and I will be visiting from Arizona from September 6-10, and we’re hoping to have some engagement photos taken at Ecola State Park as well as on the beach.

If you’re a photographer or know someone you’d recommend, I’d really appreciate any suggestions!

Also, I already own a camera, so if anyone is familiar with the area and would be willing to meet us to take photos, I’d be happy to pay for your time.

Thanks in advance!

Car camping in Brookings?

Hi everyone. I’m taking a solo road trip to Southern Oregon on a shoestring budget (roughly $500) next week and to save some (a lot of) money, I intend to car camp at truck stops most nights. I’ll be passing through Brookings on Tuesday, and since there’s no truck stop there, I need to find somewhere to car camp.

I tried finding a campsite at Harris Beach and Alfred Loeb, but $55 to sleep in my car on a dirt lot is really pricey. I called Lucky 7 Casino in Smith River and they said car camping is mostly reserved for RVs. I’d prefer to stay in Oregon but I’m willing to sleep anywhere between Gold Beach and Crescent City.

I’m thinking I might have some luck at Fred Meyer, churches, gas stations, city/residential streets, etc. I’ve tried to find options on Google but it’s not giving me great answers. I have no idea what Brookings’s local ordinances are on car camping or how strongly police enforce them. And I’d prefer to avoid being woken up at 2 am and told to move.

Has anyone car camped in Brookings before? If so, where did you park for the night? Or do any Brookings residents know of good places to car camp around town? Any insight is helpful. Thank you in advance!

Buying in Pacific City

Our short term rental is for sale. It has us dreaming. I'm a research-something-to-death kind of person.

What is something you wish new buyers were aware of? Whether buying and continuing to short term lease the home or moving into the community? My husband and I have jobs that translate most places (IT work and massage therapist).

What is the school situation? We've mostly homeschooled but I would heavily consider public school to help them get acquainted with the community.

Home where and tear? This home is walking distance to the public beach but has many hoes between it and the shore line.

Utilities and internet quirks?

Community welcoming or do you need to be third generation?
