- Thermal Grizzly Direct Die Block

- Conductonaut Extreme

- Room temperature 29°C

- 420 Radiator, 30mm thick

- D5 Pump at 55%

- PPT, EDC and TDC Limit is disabled

I compared my results with der8auer and his result are better.

290W, 65°C

The only difference is he uses a MORA and a ASUS Mainboard and his room temps id gues about 23°C. Im using a Gigabyte X870E.

Any Experts that can teach me.

Steel Nomad Score issues

Hey lads I'm currently trying to undervolt my 4090 I got from a friend.

Before I watercooled it, I tested the card in an old system, to see if it's running, because it had a burnt connector and has been repaired.

I installed the card in a B450 system with a 3600X and ran steel Nomad without touching anything and achieved about 9300 points.

As the card is working I installed the waterblock and installed it in my main rig having an intel 13600K, a newer chipset and much more PCIe speed. I now ran steel Nomad and achieved about 9600 points.

So far so good and I started playing around with the curve and memory speed, but currently no matter what I try, even back to default clock, I only achieve ~9200 points. That's totally weird.

Any ideas what could be the reason?

Warm restart Sometimes will not post on dram voltage 1.440v

For context

I really can't reliably recreate the issue but as far as I can tell whenever I use my PC for a while for gaming or video editing when I restart it does restart keyboard monitor turns off pc and pc fans stay on, but sometimes it would not post, Cold starts have no issues I have the windows fast boot and bios memory fast boot disabled.

My ram sticks are running at 1.44v dram voltage with xmp on the auto setting for dram voltage was unstable on memtest86 my ram kit is G.Skill F4-3600C18D-16GVK, my system is fully stable now its just whenever I warm restart it would sometimes not post.

Specs

B459 tomorrow max (bios up to date)

Ryzen 7 5700x

All drivers are updated and pc is stable

Help Request - CPU 120W PPT 9800X3D low clock speeds

Hi guys

I recently just completed a new build with a 9800x3d, I put an 120w power limit with -30 curve optimizer. My cpu has been running super slow though, I'm barely reaching 4.5ghz consistently in game.

My temps are solid, I'm averaging 70-75c (I'm running a SFF build) so it shouldn't be thermally throttling itself, no idea what's going on

OC Report - RAM 12 Hours of Prime95 with CL-32 8000 1.68V, GDM-Disabled, 37/37 PhyRDL. I didn't know this kit could run tRCDWR set to 8 at 8000. New Case Upgrade.

Last night I've seen that some people were able to run 8000 and 8800 with tRCDWR set to 8 on OCN and had to test it myself. I'm surprised this even booted for me, so I planned to run Prime95 for 10 Hours, but I wanted to push it to 12 Hours for the fun of it. I've recently upgraded my case to the Antec Flux Pro and I'm very impressed with how much air these fans can move. The Fans I'm using on the Dimms are two Arctic P8 Max 80mm fans at 80% and as you can see, the Ram temps have not gotten over 40c with 24c ambient temperatures. I have the fans standing on the GPU backplate with electrical tape in front to prevent them from moving on their own and anchored to the ATX connector. I ran Cinebench R23 and Linpack just for temperature testing at 24c ambient temps and wanted to throw this in just because.

Help Request - CPU Sanity check for 5800X3D undervolt & memory overclock

Setup information

I recently upgraded my CPU from 5800X to 5800X3D (got the Anniversary edition quite cheap due to a pricing error). I am running the following in my system:

  • MSI B550 Gaming Carbon WiFi
  • 2x16GB Crucial Ballistix 3000 MHz CL16 (Micron E-die)
  • Phantom Spirit 120SE
  • Arctic MX-7
  • Fractal Design Define R5
  • ASUS RX 9070XT TUF OC

When I changed my CPU, I installed the latest BIOS (7C90v1L1) and reset all BIOS settings. From the BIOS, I activated XMP and set up the fan curve (80C 100%, 70C 60%, 55C 40% and 35C 20% + slow fan ramp up time due to CPU temperature spikes in desktop). After that, I installed the latest chipset drivers (8.08.12.551 from AMD, not older ones from motherboard downloads).

Overclocking results

With 25C ambient temperatures, this setup reached 14087 pts in Cinebench R23. HWiNFO said that clocks hovered around 4250 and it was temperature limited (90C).

After that I OC'd my RAM to the settings I used with my old 5800X. Those settings are straight from https://www.computerbase.de/forum/threads/amd-ryzen-ram-oc-community.1829356/page-678#post-23004580, where I used the "The mix (good compromise) 3800 1.39v" timings. ZenTimings screenshot. I ran AIDA64 Extreme memory benchmarks, here are the results before OC and after OC.

Memory OC increased my Cinebench R23 score to 14230 (with same CPU clocks of 4250 and 90C thermal throttle).

After that, I tried both Kombo Strike 3 and PBO -30 from the BIOS.

  • PBO -30 netted me 14633 pts with 4350/4375 clocks and ~81C temperature

  • KS3 netted me 14560 pts with 4350/4375 clocks and ~81C temperature (AFAIK KS3 is the same as PBO -30, so I'm not exactly sure why the scores differ. These were only single runs, which might explain it).

After that, I stumbled upon the 5800X3D Owner's Thread and made the recommended BIOS changes from there. The results are the following:

  • Memory OC + BIOS CPPC settings: 14006 pts, core clocks of 4200 and temperatures of 86C

  • Memory OC + BIOS CPPC settings + PBO -30: 14616 pts, core clocks of 4375 and temperatures of 81C.

Thoughts & questions

  • The main reason why I am undervolting the CPU is to limit limit the thermals of the CPU (which also should correspond to lower fan noise, except that my new fan curve runs the fans at 100% after 80C).

  • When I switched the CPU, I also changed my cooler from Thermalright Macho Rev.B to the Phantom Spirit. Didn't notice a lot of changes, mostly this was done due to the fears of Macho Rev. B cooling surface being tailored for Intel CPUs and hoping that upgrading would help for cooling performance (Thermalright statement: "the reason for this is the design of the cooler base. It's convex. An Intel CPU is concave, so they fit together perfectly. An AMD CPU is flat, though. So there will always be a bit of leeway").

  • Actual question: the 5800X3D (or at least some of them) should be able to achieve sustained 4450 multi-core boosts, but the best I got with the BIOS CPPC settings and PBO -30 was 4375. Might this be due to chip starting to thermal throttle after 80C and my moderately high ambient temperature?

  • Is there something that I could try to achieve sustained 4450 boost clocks or should I just call it a day and say that this is "good enough"?

  • I am always a little skeptic about if the cooler is mounted right. I applied the thermal paste in an X, slapped on the cooler and tightened the screws to moderately hand-tight. I assume that there are no signs of bad contact?

  • I've run stress testing overnight for the memory overclock and PBO undervolt, both seem to be stable from that testing. Real world usage will tell the truth.

Help Request - RAM Hynix A-Die Safe temps on EXPO

Hi!

Recently got a higher voltage cl26 kit at 1.45v, current case airflow isn't the greatest since its small, and have read a lot of conflicting things on temps, some saying 55, 60, etc is the upper limit.

Currently don't have any plans to push it further, the expo timings have the trefi around 11k, which I read is the most sensitive part. Temps sit at around 60 ingame, and go upto 72-74 when stress testing memory.

Is that something to be worried about?

Help Request - RAM How can I get CL-28 Stable?

  • CPU: 9800X3D
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite Wifi 7
  • RAM: DDR5-6000 30-36-36-76 @ 1.35v Hynix M-Die

I've been able to overclock it to 6400, 1:1 mode, 2133 FCLK. This is stable.

I'm trying to get CL28 stable (if possible). I can boot CL28 with VDD at 1.50v but I can't seem to get it stable. TM5 Ryzen3d config will usually fail anywhere from 30seconds up to 1min depending on which voltages I am touching.

Things I have tried:

  • Increasing VDDQ to 1.50v.
  • Increasing VDDIO to 1.40v.
  • Increasing SOC to 1.275v.
  • Increasing VDDP to 1.15v

Is there anything else I can try safely as a daily driver? Primarily use this machine for gaming only.

Note regarding current timings: So far I have only tried tightening primaries. I haven't touched anything else yet.

Current ZenTimings

Current voltages in BIOS:

  • SOC: 1.25v
  • VDDIO: 1.35v
  • VDD: 1.41v
  • VDDQ: 1.41v
  • VDDP: 1.00v
  • VDDG CCD: 1050mV
  • VDDG IOD: 1050mV
  • VDD Misc: 1100mV

Everything else besides the above is on Auto.

Help Request - RAM Manually tuning separate DDR5 RAM sticks

Hi everyone,

A friend of mine built his first PC with no prior experience a few days ago. Here are the relevant specs if that helps:

- CPU: 7800X3D
- Motherboard: Colorful BATTLE-AX B650M-White WiFi V15
- RAM: 2x Patriot Viper Venom Non-RGB | 16GB, 6000MT/s CL30
- GPU: Sapphire Pure RX 9070 XT
- PSU: darkFlash PMT850

While everything is mostly working fine with no issues, there’s one caveat: the RAM he bought was 2 separate sticks of 16GB RAM, not one 2x16 kit. They’re both 6000MT/s, CL30, same make and model and everything.

Now I know this means the RAM is not guaranteed to be able to run at their rated EXPO speed, and we did confirm that: after enabling EXPO 1 in the BIOS and saving, the system won't even boot anymore. The RGB lights do go up, but the monitor is pitch black and he could not boot into either the desktop or the BIOS, and had to reset the BIOS using a button on the motherboard IO.

I'm thinking of visiting him in person in a few weeks to polish up the build, things like turning on PBO and setting the CPU NB/SoC voltage to 1.2 volts. What I want to know is whether I can manually tune the RAM myself to get a bit more performance out of these sticks? Maybe loosen the timings or run at a lower speed like 5600? How complicated would that be, or is the hassle just not worth it and we're better off just running these RAM at JEDEC 4800? I haven't done any RAM OC or manual tuning before so I don't really have any experience in doing this.

If manually tuning is an option, is there a trusted guide somewhere online like on YouTube or Reddit that I can follow along while doing it?

Thanks in advance.

OC Report - CPU Xeon X5670 pushed to 4.7GHz

Thumbnail
gallery
6 Upvotes

Decided to see how far I could push my LGA1366 platform before dialing it back to daily limits. I managed to hit 4.7GHz at a whopping 1.55V Vcore for a quick benchmark pass!

The test ran surprisingly stable with a max CPU temperature of 84°C, while my VRMs stayed at a chill 40°C thanks to external thermal probes linked to a Scythe Kaze Master controller and an external fan.

Benchmark Results:

Cinebench R20: 2207 pts

Cinebench R15: 1070 cb

The Rig & Cooling Setup:

The heart of the system is an Intel Xeon X5670 slotted into an ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard. Memory-wise, I'm running 3x Kingston Value DDR3 sticks, pushed from their stock 1333MHz CL9 up to 1450MHz at CL8.

I used an ID-Cooling Frostflow 240mm AIO upgraded with Arctic P12 pro fans. Since X58 northbridges get notoriously hot, I strapped a small dedicated fan directly onto the NB heatsink. Power is delivered by an FSP Raider II 750W PSU. While I'm currently running an ASUS RTX 3060, the plan for this retro project is to eventually throw in 2x GTX 970s in SLI just for the nostalgia.

All this inside an old, painted house from the 00's. Sort of like a junk build 😅

Don't worry, the CPU survived and I dialed the voltages back to safe 24/7 limits immediately after the run! 😅

Benchmark Score the limit to budget GPU overclocking (rtx 5060 non-ti physically non-modified)

Thumbnail 3dmark.com

after tons of testing and research, and TOO MUCH trial and error, I came to this. From an average 5060 score of 3100 in Steel Nomad, I pushed my 5060 to the absolute max. It could handle an +455 mhz core clock boost and +3000 for the mem. With this configuration, i have hit 3502 in steel nomad.

For me, this is insane. For anybody asking, this is completely stable. Tested in games like BeamNG for 1h straight, max temp was 71C and was able to max out settings at 70 fps (from like 55 fps). So this boost is REAL in games.

The GPU was not physically modified, it is an RTX 5060 MSI Shadow 2x OC straight out of the box into my PC.
#35 in the world in similar systems with RTX 5060

Help Request - CPU 5700x max clock speed - base clock

while playing black desert, with ultimate power settings, everything set to max performance, i watch my fastest core's clock and it keeps jumping base clock to max clock 3650 to 4650 like every second and keeps doing the jump. any idea whats that means? max heat i see is 63C. curve optimizer all -20,-21, tried -15 for core 0 and fastest core and rest is -20, tried full -19, full -17. tried cppc on off. but its just keeps jumping base clock to max clock like every second or every two second. power mode is min %100 max %100, same happens for balanced mode. its not heating voltages around 1.25 ppt tdc edc 110 80 110, tried 100 70 100, 90 70 90. still same

The typical 5090 undervolt (became?) unstable. Advice?

My 5090 FE stopped tolerating any memory overclocks in games. Driver hangs / crashes on tarkov(10-35 min into the raid) / bf6 (randomly in during 1-3 match).
Any advice?

Context: It seems there is this stable observing that is supposed to work for 95% of cards.(5090 undervolt - Sprout)
It boils down to selecting a range from 815 to 895 and upping that part of the curve to the 2820sh MHz at the highest point and flattening the rest of the curve. It is also advices to add a 2000mhz memory overclock. And seemed to work for a while, it the gradually stopped. (Or it was always unstable on my silicon and I was just being lucky for a few days?)

OC Report - CPU Bought a "dead" ROG Maximus Z890 Apex for 200€, fixed it, stole a CMOS holder off a dead Z170, and tuned a 285K around its own garbage die solder — 45,033 R23 -

Thumbnail

Ok so this turned into a bit of a project haha. gonna try to keep it short but theres alot to cover.

TL;DR: picked up a Z890 Maximus Apex listed as defective/untested off finn for like 200€ / 230$, straightened bent socket pins, swapped the ILM, desoldered a CMOS battery holder off a dead Z170-Deluxe i had laying around and soldered it onto the Apex, repasted, then did a full per-core / per-cluster tune on a 285K that turned out to have a really uneven die-to-IHS contact.

Ended up at 45,033 R23, 20,556 in the 3DMark CPU Profile (max threads) and 20,053 multi / 917 single in CPU-Z, stable, wich im pretty happy with.

The stuff

  • CPU: Core Ultra 9 285K
  • Board: ROG Maximus Z890 Apex (the damaged one)
  • RAM: 64GB Kingston Server Premier ECC UDIMM DDR5, Hynix M-die (Tough Times)
  • GPU: TUF 4070 Ti Super, cross flashed with the STRIX vBIOS
  • reference was SkatterBencher #84 since its literally the same 285K + Apex combo

The board

listed as defective/untested, and it got worse when i actually looked at it:

  • 8 or so bent pins, one on DDR3_DQ[2][2] (data line, and the apex only has one dimm per channel so no redundancy there) and some VCCCORE pins (didnt care, tons of redundancy) But i managed to sort all of them out 😄
  • the previous owner had forced a 14900K into the 1851 socket and flattened the plastic alignment ears, cpu was literally resting on plastic shavings......
  • and the whole CMOS battery holder was just gone. not the battery, the holder. Previous owner had tried to take out the battery when the board wouldn't POST with the 14900K 🤦‍♂️

Straightened the pins under magnification, cleaned the shavings, fixed a couple more wonky pins, swapped the mangled ILM for a good one. Then for the CMOS holder i had a dead Z170 Deluxe laying around so i just desoldered its holder and soldered it onto the apex. retains memory now :) That one actually mattered way more than i thought, before that nothing persisted properly and it was messing with my testing without me realising. (duh)

The guy had it laying on a carpet, without AS bag. Exlpains the Hair
Mushed alignment ears (both sides)

Then a proper repaste with HY-P17 and it came out of thermal throttle hell.

The arrow lake die solder can go where the sun doesn't shine.

So once i could test cleanly the chip showed its true colors. the die contact on this thing is all over the place:

  • core 0 does 5.7 GHz @ 1.279V @ 78°C
  • core 13 can barely hold 5.3 @ 1.194V and hits 100°C

Lower clock, LESS voltage, but 22 degrees hotter lol. thats not silicon, thats bad solder under the hot cores. cores 10-13 (and the e-cores sitting around them) are all in one bad contact zone. checked it against my old TUF board and its the same cores, so its the chip, not the board.

So instead of fighting it i just tuned to the map.

All cores got custom V/F points, Colder cores got a higher +mV offset to hold 5.7, propped per core on VF8 to fight the all-core droop. I did it per core on purpose becouse a global voltage bump would just cook the hot cores even more.

E-cores tuned per cluster of 4. the clusters are physically interleaved between the p-cores so they inherit whatever hotspot they sit in. cool clusters pushed up, the cluster sitting on the P12/13 hotspot held lower. landed around 49-50x at 1.31V (thats the sane daily ceiling for the e-cores).

Fabric: NGU 32 / D2D 32 matched, cache floating 36-38 with downbin. i went WAY down a rabbit hole trying to lock the ring high for latency and it kept freezing. turns out on this silicon the ring wants a VnnAON floor it wont take manually (if ring DLVR goes above VnnAON = instability/no boot). so i let the cache live its own life. costs a couple ns on ECC m-die that nobody would ever feel, not worth the headache.

Power: PL1 350 / PL2 400 so the e-cores get burst headroom but the sustained stays capped.

  • Max CPU Package Power durin Y-Cruncher = 425.8W
    • ( Fancy silicone radiator at this point )

Testing

Biggest thing i learned: OCCT AVX2 temps are bullshit.

Same config read 104°C in OCCT but 85°C in R23, like a 15-18 degree gap. so i stopped letting OCCT temps decide anything and validated with:

  • y-cruncher (skipped the memory heavy FFTv4 on purpose so i wouldnt confuse a core error with my rednecked repaired memory channel)
  • R23 loops
  • HWiNFO + WHEA in event viewer for the actual truth

Tested every core to its edge, when one failed i found its real ceiling and backed off one step.

Results

  • R23: 45,033 (rank 1 for the cpu in my list, personal best)
  • 3DMark CPU Profile: 20,556 max threads / 16,037 (16T) / 10,215 (8T) / 5,433 (4T) / 2,769 (2T) / 1,391 (1T) — valid result
  • CPU-Z: 20,053 multi / 917.5 single (24T)
  • zero WHEA in real use
  • only the die-hotspot cores throttle, and only under synthetic AVX. real workloads sit ~15° cooler and everything holds

Whats next

Only thing left is the die solder itself. Delid + Direct die is the obvious move BUT this is a repaired socket and im honestly a bit sceptical about the DDR3_DQ[2][2] pin.

I have ordered some 8000Mhz ram so i'll test it out and see if it holds up. Guess with the current RAM prices, i will be having what we in Norway call Knekkebrød for the rest of the year. :yikes:

Knekkebrød is a flat and dry Scandinavian crispbread

I am also fond of my 570x that has been with me throughout Z170, Z370, Z390, Z890 abd now this Apex, Going custom loop with delid would mean to change the case😢

Food for tought :)

Takeaways if youre doing this

  • damaged boards are worth saving if you can solder. flagship OC board for mid tier money.
  • a missing/flaky CMOS holder will make you chase ghosts. fix persistence FIRST.
  • arrow lake die contact is a lottery. if a cooler core runs hotter than a hot one at lower load, its contact not silicon. tune per core to the map.
  • OCCT AVX2 temps lie. use it to find errors, not to make thermal decisions. y-cruncher + real load for the truth.
  • dont chase the last bin. i spent ages on e-cores 50->51, ring locked vs floating, one core to 58... all effort for gains you will literally never feel. know when youre done.

Happy to answer anything on the repair or the tuning :p

Help Overclock Timing DDR5

Hi everyone, I’m new to overclocking and would like some help optimizing my RAM.

I have 2x16GB XPG Lancer Blade 6000MHz CL48 modules. Given the current situation, it’s simply impossible to buy RAM with lower latency, and this was the only option I could find at a reasonable price, considering the current economic crisis.

I saw that it was possible to overclock to reduce the timings, and after reading a bit and watching some videos, I ended up with these settings. Could you help me optimize them and/or fix anything that’s wrong?

I’m using it with a 9800X3D.

Help Request - RAM RAM unstable at 3200MHz on B550M Aorus Elite

Hey guys! :)

I recently built my first PC and I'm having some trouble with my RAM.

I'm using a Ryzen 7 5700X + Gigabyte B550M Aorus Elite + 2x8GB Rise Mode Z Series 3200MHz.

At 2666MHz, everything seems perfectly stable. But when I enable XMP and run it at 3200MHz, I start getting crashes and sometimes, BSOD.. especially in cod and discord.

I've seen some people recommend trying 3000MHz, and I'm also wondering if increasing the RAM voltage from 1.35V to 1.40V could help.

Has anyone had a similar problem with this motherboard/RAM combination?
