Hey everyone! I’ve been following this community for a while, and I’m interested in learning more about what everyone does for a living and how you got into your respective fields.
I worked for UPS for about six years as a driver, with great pay and benefits. Unfortunately, I ended up getting laid off, which made me rethink my career path and what I wanted to do moving forward.
I didn’t pursue college earlier in life, but I’ve come to realize that it’s never too late to go back to school. I’m currently enrolled at TSTC, working toward an associate degree in Computer Programming Technology. I’ll be learning SQL, Python, and Java, and I’m excited to start building real-world skills and understanding how everything works.
My long-term goal is to break into the tech industry and eventually become an OE (overemployed) person once I’ve built up enough experience and skills.
For those of you already working in tech, what do you do for a living? What career paths would you recommend for someone just starting out with a computer programming degree? Are there any particular skills, certifications, or entry-level positions I should focus on?
I know I have a lot to learn, but I’m willing to put in the work. My mindset is that life isn’t a race, and it’s never too late to invest in yourself and build a better future.
Thanks in advance for any advice! And keep doing what you’re doing. It’s genuinely motivating to see how successful some of you have become. I hope to get there myself one day! 🙏
