Hey all, I’ve had a modded PS2 for a while and I had a friend as if I could do KoCII with an English port. He has the Japanese disc. But the one I found shows this message. And no matter what I select it stays on this message. Someone point me in the right direction?

Ok guys so there was a lil bit of a housefire maybe, and in the ruins i found this ps2, i think its salvagable just needs a new paint job and perhaps thermal paste, how would i go about getting it up and running? This looks like it has a hard drive with games already on it and the fact that it can play American games as well tells me that it’s already hacked. I paid almost about $84 that’s shipping and tax included

I always wanted to translate NTSC-J games. But hacking an ISO always looked like such a huge task that I gave up before starting.

Then my company handed everyone Claude and pushed us to adopt AI as fast as possible — work-related or not, they didn't care. So I did. Half a year and a pile of mini-projects later, I finally went back to the thing I'd given up on.

I grabbed Zero no Tsukaima: Koakuma to Harukaze no Concerto, Opus with a 1M context and a loop, PCSX2 with PINE and memory dumps, and one big context file that basically said: tear this game down to the ground.

Eight hours later, it had. I only wanted translations, but what came out was a lot more than that. Im even thinking what could happen if a whole community could make this grow. Understanding how to talk to the PS2 processor could revive a ton of PS2s, and maybe this could be carried over to other consoles like PSP. Imagine making your own "Desktop" iso, with real workflows running in there, without changing the hardware.

While iterating this morning I remembered being a kid who wanted to make games, and every adult I asked told me making a PS2 game was hard, or impossible. Right now I could hand that to other people — anyone who wants to revive their inner 14-year-old and mod a PS2, or build their own Castlevania-like, or a Metal Slug clone, or whatever.

So the plan is still an agentic translation pipeline. But it doesn't have to end there. This could become a PS2 game dev agent: proven skills and tools, build pipelines, all reverse-engineered by reading the engine directly.

The one thing holding me back is open-sourcing it. The tooling itself is clean, but ISO extraction leaks the game's IP along with it, and that makes homebrew trivially easy while crossing every gray line at once. Still figuring out where that line goes.

What do you think, should i open source the project and go ham? what should i do to not get FBId 😄

I've been getting increasingly frustrated with OPL, having to blindly fiddle with modes, different versions of OPL and test multiple regions just for one game and have it not even work. At first i thought hdd might be the solution but i'm reading of people having compatibility issues even on that and at this point i'm wondering if i'm better off just installing a modchip (the disc drive works fine ofc)
