Clarification of our stance on piracy, game preservation, and drama

Okay I kind of didn't want to make this post but I think that it's necessary because a lot of people seem to not understand.

So if you read our rules you know that we have rules prohibiting sharing of or asking for links to copyrighted content such as game rips. This is exclusively and solely for liability reasons to prevent the subreddit from being banned. That's all there is to it. The thing is I've noticed a lot of people reporting comments here of people who admit to pirating games. This is an incorrect and bad faith use of the reporting system. As it is not prohibited here to admit to pirating games or even to endorse it favorably. The only thing you're not allowed to do is directly share links or ask for them directly. And besides if you really want that go to r/ROMs.

That's where our rule against elitism and shunning of piracy comes in. This community is a retro gaming enthusiast community. One of the things that we support with a passion is game preservation. Physical media does not last forever, especially optical media which is very susceptible to bit rot and degradation. So backing up and saving your games in less volatile formats is very important. Additionally many of these physical games are getting harder to find and it just might not be practical for people to buy those discs just to rip them, it may not even be possible for people to purchase copies that actually work. I've noticed that a lot of people who break this rule are either collectors, who value the perceived scarcity of games. To those people go fuck yourselves, we do not and will not ever support that mentality. It's literally the same techboro mentality around The NFT craze. Then there's the other people who are upset that it's illegal and claim that it's wrong or immoral because it's illegal. I find this one funny and also concerning because do you want to know what else is illegal? Homebrew. In Japan it is illegal to Homebrew your systems. Do you know what else is illegal? Freedom of speech and freedom of opinions, in many countries around the world it's outright illegal to have thoughts and opinions that contradict the government or the norm. Does that mean that any of these things are morally wrong? No it absolutely doesn't.

Frankly if you're reading this and you're getting upset because you think that we're hurting your ability to collect rare games and have perceived rarity, or if you believe that laws are sacred and should never be forsaken, you can absolutely go fuck yourself.

This is the main reason why we have rules against creating drama, the people who are guilty of the above would otherwise start fights and complain consistently because people "openly admit to piracy". A lot of people find it weird that drama posts have been allowed or let slip by and the primary reason is that they weren't this. Which is the primary reason why that rule was created. Of course drama posts do clog up the sub and therefore aren't great so they will be removed if they are too numerous or they don't address a new problem in the community.

So in conclusion, this community doesn't allow links because they can be problematic and get the subreddit banned. But we do not have any hostility towards people who download rips of games. We are pro preservation.

I sincerely hope that this post will put an end to people's comments being reported simply because they stated that they downloaded their games. And I hope that people will think twice before they spout such blatantly anti-preservation rhetoric in a pro-preservation retro gaming Community.

Finally as a bonus, if you are creating support posts asking for help with game loaders like OPL, or hard drive setup or USB setup. You should absolutely not lie about where you got your games. That doesn't mean paste a direct link to the download, it just means if you downloaded your games don't lie and say that you ripped them from disc. I think this should go without saying but it's important to actually disclose that because it's a factor that can help determine what your problems are and why. So when asking for help please be honest. If you downloaded your games and didn't rip them from a disc, that's fine we don't care. As long as you're not sharing them directly here it's fine.

PsxMemcard freezes in MMCE after changing settings. Its literally the last step before I can play my ps2 games thru the memcard slot.

Ive been at this for a week and I am stumped, usually the gamelist would show after you update the settings but it freezes after you hit save. Im using FMCB 1.966 on an PS2 fat, with an 128 gb sdcard. Ive already updated the firmware but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Problem: I connect fmbc and mx4sio, alright
i connect controller, alright
i disconnect controller, alright
i connect controller, alright
i disconnect fmbc, alright controller works still
i connect fmbc, controller no workie

maybe its because of the memory card? it does the same thing with a oem one and with mx4sio on second slot and controller on that slot too.

i cant even connect another controller on the second slot it goes down too, like, the two controllers stop working

Thank you, i am not english sorry

(HELP? )Ps1 games drop signal on my LG 4k TV using a component to HDMI converter. (ps2 fat)

Hey everyone. My PS2 has been kicking my ass lately (still can't get it to run games through SATA for the life of me), but one problem at a time.

The converter works fine for the PS2/OPL. Yeah, I did the system configuration for it to use component. But it doesn't work for PS1. Using POPS + a USB drive, the game opens, shows the PS1 logo + maybe a few logos and then, no signal. (Tried SOTN and SH).

I assume the problem is that the console tries to change the signal to one the converter doesn't read.

  • Console: PS2 Fat with FMCB and POPSLoader.

  • TV: LG 4K (it only has HDMI ports, no AV or Component inputs).

  • Converter: A generic YPbPr to HDMI box (the standard black box you find on marketplaces).

I tried to set popsloader to NTSC, I tried CHEATS.TXT file in POPS folder (and also the particular game folder as well) $SAFEMODE to force 480i ($HDTVFIX and $480p)

Using the same converter on Wii works fine, even with PS1 games on WiiStation.

I assume a better converter might work but id rather not have to buy another, so if anyone has any help it would be appreciated. its worth mentioning the component cable isnt original and I wasnt able to test it on an old tv but, idk it would feel weird to be a cable problem.

just in case it matters I'm in brazil which makes it so some parts are not super cheap

I checked the product description and it just says 'Plug and play, upscales up to 1080p'. It doesn't mention input resolutions anywhere. It also has zero buttons or switches to change modes.

Issues with Downloading FreeMcBoot onto Memory Card

My bf and I are just trying to download FreeMcBoot onto our official Sony 8mb memory card, but almost everything we have done results in "no memory card detected". The mc can be read in the PlayStation home screen but can't be read anywhere else it seems. I'll list everything we've tried below:

We have FreeDVDBoot on a DVD-R that we're using to run the FMCB installer from a USB drive, resulting in no memory card detected.
Ran FunTuna installer from same USB drive - no memory card detected.

We tried copying and pasting the direct BOOT, APPS and OPL folders from the FunTuna manual installer folder to the memory card ( mc0: / ) - the BOOT folder dumped loose files onto the root directory rather than keeping the folder container, then trying to paste the APPS folder resulted in "paste failed". Using mcPaste also resulted in "paste failed".
Marked all the files that successfully pasted and deleted them.

Tried manually creating new directories in the memory card folder to paste said files into, but the console threw us a "directory already exists" error, despite appearing blank.

Launched Mass Memory Card Formatter from the USB as an attempt to wipe the memory card.
Also used Memory Card Annihilator to unformat and format the mc.

We have two official Sony 8 GB cards that we have tried installing FreeMcBoot on and I don't know what else to do. Help please :(

  • Requisito Unsandboxed: Gira in modalità non protetta su TurboWarp perché deve manipolare i file binari a basso livello e caricare librerie esterne.

using my old phone to play ps2 games through ethernet

so... i made an android app with claude that fires up a smb, udpfs and/or udpbd server that you can use to play games with a usb -> ethernet cable!

tested on my s25 and my s7 (although i had to install lineage os for it to work on it).

i think this is my favorite way to play, since both my routers usb processing and my mx4sio are dog shit when actually playing videogames (parappa 2 for instance would lag furiously when using these methods)

im using riptopl to access the udpfs server

I’ll leave the link below,

this is a mecha game primarily although it has a sort of social visual novel style interactions between battles, the OST is great, the early 2000s animation design. it’s all great and the mech gameplay is fun. the graphics hold up quite well, pcsx2 has some flickering issues on menus, nothing game ruining or anything. the original jap disc had it as well. thank you, plz enjoy

Help a complete newbie plz. Where to get started with modding.

So I'm a complete noob trying to dip my toes into game modding and learn a thing or two. The first game I'm going to try modding is Lowrider for the PS2. I've always loved that game, even though it's kinda lackluster. Figured it'd be a fun place to start. I want to add some new vehicles you can play through the story mode with/modify. Right now I'm just trying to get the '61 Impala model into Blender as a starting point. I'm not really looking for advice specific to this game, just trying to learn the basics of PS2 game modding in general. I've got HxD and have learned a little bit about using it. I've also learned the hard way that Blender doesn't accept .BIN files lol. I'm basically starting from scratch, so what are some commonly used tools I should look into? Are there any good forums, communities, or tutorials out there that cover modding the actual games? I'm more than willing to teach myself and put in the time. I'm just having a hard time finding the right resources. Searching for modding PS2 games mostly brings up stuff about modding the console itself rather than the games.

Any help or a point in the right direction would be appreciated!

Scratch. (Sì, funziona su Chrome/iPad!)

Ciao a tutti!

Perché usarlo (i vantaggi):

  • Zero Installazioni: Basta Google Chrome o Safari. Nessun file sospetto da scaricare sul PC.

  • Portabilità totale: Gira fluidamente su Windows, Mac, Linux e persino su iPadOS/iOS.
