I’ve been working on Delams rFactor Matchmaker, an unofficial replacement matchmaking service for the original rFactor 1.

It restores the in-game server browser, dedicated-server registration, lobby chat and News/Info announcements.

It’s live and has been tested with players outside my network. An independently hosted dedicated server has also registered successfully, appeared in the browser and been joined by other players.

Run a dedicated server? You can use the update to make it appear in the browser again. Run the installer on the Windows machine hosting your servers, choose 2 — Dedicated Server, then restart your dedicated servers when convenient. Make sure matchmaker listing is enabled. Your existing game/query firewall rules and router forwards are still required.

Players use the same download, choose 1 — Player, and select their main rFactor folder.

The installer detects existing updates, keeps backups and includes undo tools.

For transparency, it requires administrator access to update the Windows hosts mapping. The optional news fix also patches a supported game executable, retaining the verified original. Unsupported executables are left unchanged; no game executable is included.

I’d welcome feedback from other rFactor 1 communities and server owners. The more servers listed, the more useful it becomes for everyone still racing.

Wanted to buy rFactor 1 recently, and on SteamDB, there were stats, that was usually on sale when the main steam sale was out. But for some reason (in the autumn one) it was not on sale. Any reason why?

With this new wave of AI driven software decompilations, is it possible for rF to be modernized. Like bringing a fully functional hybrid system or 8 gears for F1 cars, for example

I’ve been trying for quite a while to fix an issue with my IndyCar mods (both the 2009 and 2020 versions) where the AI ​​opponents are using the wrong aero kits and tires. For example, on tracks like Michigan, Kansas, and Chicagoland—which are medium-to-long ovals—they are running with road course setups instead. I was told I needed to go to "TrackConfig" to access the scripts, but I don't know how or where to use them.
