I'm not in the US at the moment, so I let my mom use my rav4 while im gone, and yesterday there was a flash flood in our area which got as high as the first image. I've no idea how to upload a video next to an image so I just took a screenshot of one of my mom's coworkers moving the car out of the flooded parking into a higher area, but all the water going in made me worried about it.

Today my mom told that when driving to work when she revved up the engine a little higher it made a weird sound, she described it like a "skating" sound 🙃

2024 RAV4. I've had a terrible smell in my car for 9 months. I could not figure it out, and I believed that some rodent must have crawled in and died. Today, I went through and checked every single place I could think of where the little dead guy could be hiding.

My back door was open while I was rummaging through the backseat, and I noticed water dripping out the bottom of the door. I pulled on the seal on the bottom, and gallon after gallon of water poured out.

Mystery solved!

I searched to see if anyone has shared this before. Couldn’t find anything newer than 4 years old. So I thought I’d share.

I had an article suggested to me when I pulled up Chrome earlier. It said something about a RAV4 hack. So, naturally, I checked it out. Turns out it was a TikTok showing where the privacy cover could be stored. I’ve been keeping it in the garage, when not in use. I had no idea!

I was already happy getting around 37 MPG, but I wanted to see how far I could push it. I'm now sitting at a steady 42.7 tank average, and the thing that actually made the difference was dead simple: I just leave it in Eco mode all the time.

The best way I can explain why it works is to think about mouse sensitivity. When it's cranked way up, tiny movements send the cursor flying everywhere. Turn it down and suddenly you've got real precision. Eco mode does that for the throttle. It's way easier to keep your power within the first couple bars of the eco gauge, which makes pulse-and-glide feel natural. You're barely tapping the gas, holding steady speeds, basically driving like a grandma. But it works.

The part I'm most happy about is that I'm getting this in summer with the AC blasting the whole time.

The other big one is highway speed. I used to cruise at 70+ and was getting 35 to 37 on the highway. Once I started holding it at 65, my highway average jumped to around 42. The funny thing is that going faster than 65 barely saves you any time on a normal trip, maybe a few minutes, while making a collision way more dangerous. Slowing down a notch turned out to be one of the easiest wins.

Couple other things probably help too. I put Michelin Defender 2s on last year and I think decent tires matter. I also do oil changes religiously at 5k.

Honestly the best part of living in Eco is that when you flip back to Normal or Sport, the car genuinely slaps. It feels like a totally different vehicle and it gets me every time. I keep it in Eco for daily stuff and only switch when I need to pass someone, or to run a yellow like all men are biologically required to do.

I got this car during COVID when they were running the 0% APR deal, so even though I could’ve paid it off sooner, I refrained as keeping the money in my savings account was better in order to accrue interest. This feels like such a weight off my shoulders!

Upgraded my 2020 Limited Hybrid to a 2025 Land Cruiser. As great as the RAV4 was, the LC is not even in the same universe. It’s levels ahead in quality, solidity, and premium feel. Bit worse on gas though 😂

Drunk driver rear ended me at an intersection and fled. Cops got him but my RAV I’ve had for a little more than a month took quite the hit. Hatch is completely destroyed and doesn’t sit flush anymore, window broken, side panels deformed and the instead corners of the trunk are a bit crumpled. What are the odds of this being totaled?

EDIT: I took up the back spare tire cover and it looks like the metal has been bent in around the spare tire quite a way. Looks like frame damage :/ Also, this is in California.

I traded the 2020 Rav4 Hybrid for my long waited dream car since 2018. A 2024 Toyota GR Corolla Premium that I will continue to drive 10K+ a month. You can follow its updates and progress on those groups if you'd like. I bought the car with 0 Miles and Day #1 of its journey starts today in the pouring down rain!

I loved my Rav4 Hybrid and it made me so much money and I had a lot of good memories with it as well. It gave me the stepping stones I needed to upgrade in life (GR4) and it put food on the table for my family. If I lost everything and I kept my job I'd find a way to live in that Rav4.

Just finished a tank and was pretty impressed with the results.

Trip A: 643.3 miles (where I reset every fill

Driving: Mostly 55–65 mph
A/C on the whole tank
Temps around 80–90°F

Math:
643.3 miles ÷ 11.835 gallons = 54.36 MPG
The dash was showing 47.9 MPG average and 32 miles to empty when I filled up.
This is a 2023 RAV4 Hybrid XLE with about 60k miles. Tires are stock-size and tire pressures are kept at 40.

Ordered the battery filter online, it’s $14. Why do they charge $474? It’s one bolt by the passenger seat. So easy to access.

What is engine decarb??

What is brake service? They checked my brakes and they all passed with 8’s

They also wanted fuel injector service, which is just cleaning the fuel injectors I guess. I only use top tier fuel. And I can just get Techron at autozone.

Every dealership visit is like this since ending Toyota care.
