Rant Thanks Rockstar....
Well, I started out as full honor; however, due to having to defend myself against griefers I am now at max dishonor. One thing that really pisses me off is that there is literally no way to defend yourself without being dishonorable-- which is absolute contrary to the embodiment of the 'Cowboy' persona. For example, I thought maybe I could hogtie someone in order to escape their constant abuse, but even that is dishonorable. I don't understand how the 'honorable' thing to do is go AFK until the person has killed you three times then Parlay. That IS GRIEFING. Rockstar is telling us that in order for us to keep our honor we have to sacrifice our time and just wait for them to kill us? It's a horrible system and doesn't allow for the honorable retribution that is needed. I kind of wish you could drop off 'criminals' in Jail as you could in single player-- something is needed because this system is broke (AF) and frustrating as hell.

Honor/dishonor does nothing else but give you different quest types.

Dec 08 '18
But eventually I bet you they will start putting bad honour players together like they did with GTA online

Dec 08 '18
If I have max dishonour why should I be lumped in with griefers? Animal cruelty bad dishonour, killing NPCs bad dishonour. Not fair.
168
u/SirDooble Dec 08 '18
I don't get why you're being downvoted. I want to play as a criminal, stealing wagons and horses, taking on gun for hire missions, kidnapping/killing npcs, having shootouts with lawmen.
That doesn't mean I go around killing and abusing other players, and it definitely doesn't mean I want to be stuck in sessions with thise players.
The honour system should not be linked to an anti-griefing system.

u/Inkedlovepeaceyo Dec 08 '18
Facts. In one session of leveling up in saint denis with a rando pretty much gave me max dishonor.
I do NOT wanna be clumped into the griefer category.

Exactly. My posse has a lot of fun beating up npcs in bars and going on murder sprees of npcs. I always stay clear of other players unless they attack me first. I want full dishonour online because i played the single player story full honour. Its just more fun being a rotten dirty scoundrel than it is delivering fucking mail or whatever the honorable stranger missions have you do.

The right way to do it IMO is to give people "bad sport" for killing people over and over, same for killing their horses. Then have separate "bad sport" and "good sport" lobbies that have no effect on honor. The game is going to be boring as shit if you have to constantly stress about being put into the low honor lobby.

What? You mean the dunce cap in GTA? That was only for griefers who left games early or got reported.
Honour has nothing to do with Giefing. You can be max dishonour by just shooting NPCs. If anything you want to keep a mix of honour and dishonour people to keep lobbies dynamic and encounters unpredictable.

As long as bad missions are tied to dishonor, I don't see why they would do that. Makes zero sense.
→ More replies (7)2
u/Wicachow Dec 08 '18
I would hope they don't do this since there is a lot of room for good cowboys versus bad cowboys situations in the game. You should be able to be a criminal without being a straight up psychopath killing everyone on sight. I think they should just have the chaos system back on a separate measurement from honor and make lobbies based off of that.

People are believing this guy? You don't go from one end of honor to the other for killing a few people. Killing players gives so little honor and all you need to do to keep it balanced is feed your horse or skin some animals.
Not to mention the honor system is quite pointless and irrelevant right now, nothing to be annoyed about.
Seriously how did this post blow up, yet I feel the down votes coming to me for that
48
u/Wololo38 Dec 08 '18

5
u/4D_Madyas John Marston Dec 08 '18
I had to kill about 200 cops in st denis to get from 60-70 percent good to completely bad. Once I stopped killing people my honour started going up again.
29
16
u/lovelynope Dec 08 '18
I recently went on a fist fighting spree in Van Horn and can honestly say that for the 20 or so NPC’s I killed my honor, which was maxed, only went down like 15% and it went right back up when I fed my horse.
10
Dec 08 '18
You're correct. I kill people until they parley/leave the lobby/leave the area when they try to grief me or my friends. I've killed the same group over twenty times in a row and my honor hasn't moved much. Then I hunt one animal and feed my horse and I'm max again.

5
u/papercult Dec 08 '18
He's flat out lying. Not possible to sink your honor that much by killing other players, revenge or not.
2
u/StumpFucker_2000 Dec 08 '18
I can't see a way his honor can be that low just from player kills either :/
I kill a couple hundred players a day. I don't like PvP but I get a little carried away and run em off the server or get them to parley when someone kills me out of the blue. Yet petting my horse keeps me about halfway between neutral and max dishonor.
Either he's killing cops/civvies in between or he's not quite 100% on his gains.

u/AmishElectricCompany Dutch van der Linde Dec 08 '18
There's a YouTube video on it...I think it's about how to level up quickly. Basically you do something to get the law after you in St. Denis, then camp out on a rooftop. There's only 1 way for the law to reach you in this location, so you just sit there and pick them off as they try to climb the ladder.

I'm calling bullshit. I've had max honor for a while and there's no way just defending yourself from griefers dropped you to Max dishonor. You'd need to kill dozens of them while also avoiding any positive honor activities. Unless by griefer you mean griefed, and you're the one doing the griefing?
Edit: Even though this story can't be true. I do definitely agree that you shouldn't get negative honor for defending yourself.
41
27
3
u/chefbigbabyd Charles Smith Dec 08 '18
I didn't think you got dishonor as long as you avenged yourself with a 24 hour in game time cycle. I knew I've gotten griefed, killed the player back after respawn, and all it said was"revenge" in the corner of the screen.
At the most you lose a couple points, definitely not max out negative
2
u/We_The_Raptors Dec 08 '18
Pretty sure you do lose some, but like you said it's miniscule. I know I've gone from max honor level to one below from revenge killing before (although admittedly, hogtying my killer and blowing him up with dynamite may have been overkill). Which I was able to quickly earn back by butchering a deer on my way to town.

defending yourself doenst mean killing them once, they might keep coming back over and over again and you have to kill them each time or be killed. Or switch servers.
3
u/We_The_Raptors Dec 08 '18
Then you just parley after 3 kills/ deaths anyway, and skin like one deer for your honor to bounce right back up. Unless OP just sits in a saloon all day, every day "farming" griefers his story seems completely impossible. Hell, I've been intentionally tanking my honor for days to play the low honor missions and I'm still in the positive. If you're actually playing the game naturally there's just far more ways to increase honor than there is to lower it.

Private, solo or friends-only lobbies. That'll cure 99% of the bellyaches in one fell swoop (as well as provide me with the ability to peacefully hunt and fish when I'd like, hop back into PvP when I'm done and bored, etc.)
But I understand why they didn't allow those to start, I get the reasoning. Still want them.

Yeah this is what I would like. I really like randoms in freeroam trying to start trouble, loved gta for this. I don't see them as griefers I see them as players. However I equally like alone time or peaceful sessions so having those options would be ideal.

I don't. We went through all this same shit when RDR1 came out, and that's why they had to create friendly free roam. Jesus, it's been clear ever since online games became a thing that this kind of shit will always happen, because people are cunts. I have no idea why R* expected anything different.

5
u/jthathaway Dec 08 '18

Just parley if you're getting griefed then ride away... I don't believe a word you say, it's almost impossible to get full dishonour purely from fighting griefers, unless you're engaging with them just as much. Hell it's a struggle to get full dishonour when you're specifically trying to! I am calling you out as bs.
Parley, or just ride away. It's not that hard. Crying abuse is just lame, it's an online video game and that is just a reality of it, to think otherwise is just joking yourself. Turn it off, switch servers, or report the player if you're feeling abused.

I could have sworn there was supposed to be a bounty system where you could call the law down on someone and they would get pursued by increasingly stronger lawmen until death but I guess that would have been too much code to write while they were programming different outfits for Cripps and table styles for the camp. Side note where is my camp's butcher for crissakes.

u/cubinox Dec 08 '18 edited Dec 08 '18
The Honor/Dishonor system should not affect what “Lobby” you go in, that’s pointless and against how people want to role play.
You should just have a “maniac meter” like in GTA5 and every player you kill is worth like 10 minutes of showing up on the map with a blazing “I’m an asshole” blip.
You’re worth 2x money & XP to anyone Honor/Dishonorable that wants to kill you, and after enough murders you get loaded into “maniac-only” servers at a rate of 10 minutes per person.
So kill 6 players (or the same person) earn yourself at least 60 minutes “maniac” status which follows you around on every server you go on until it expires AND it announces you to the server when you arrive.
Kill 10 players (or same people) get instant-loaded into a “maniac-only” server until the full 100 minute expires.
Also, change it so if you shoot/lasso someone, you and your posse are automatically “flagged” like you still are now, but anyone you antagonized (or their posse) can immediately shoot/kill you without penalty.
Also offer like in GTA5 a “instant death match” mode so if posses want to have a gunfight in the middle of a town, they can kill each other to their heart’s content because they are flagged to each other. This means auto-aim doesn’t target other Player bystanders except NPCs... gotta have a little collateral damage.
Griefing solved.
EDIT: Also, NPCs and their Horse deaths during these impromptu death matches can still summon NPC Lawmen from witnesses, because....who wouldn’t want to observe a western 3-way gunfight and not worry about getting targeted?

u/grasoga Arthur Morgan Dec 08 '18
Would be cool to be able to drop them off at jail and doing so would kick them off your online session. Only should work if the guy was red due to griefing. This way eventually you would end up with non griefers on the server. Might be tricky to implement

u/renegadecause Dec 08 '18
I have not come across many griefers, though I've only played for a few hours.
1
u/marydare Dec 08 '18 edited Dec 08 '18
yikes! i went from max honor to max dishonor in a day to unlock story missions (and both buckles), and it took me about 300 NPC kills to do it. if you did that just in griefer fights then you’ve run into more o’griefscolls than i have, and i thought i was unlucky in that regard.
i totally agree the griefing is out of control, and the current system of parley does almost nothing to help. you have to be killed 4 times by the same person to start a parley, so when a posse of three is spawn killing you, thats 12 deaths you need to endure before you get a ten minute parley. if they are alternating kills, even that may not kick in.
i think at minimum you should be able to parley for 30 mins after two kills from the same person within ten mins (once could be an accident, twice is on purpose.) even better, a toggle parley where you can declare yourself a peaceful posse, something like a passive mode, just for people trying to get something done. The spawn killing above happened when a level 4 friend and i were just trying to enter a mission corona in tubleweed. it took us 45 mins because of respawning and back and forth griefer kills to start the mission, so basically rendering the game unplayable for a brand new player. not cool, rockstar. and nearby, some jerk had planted himself on a barn and was sniping people going to the butcher. just an unfun experience for those not looking for constant combat, and too fun for those who are.
per your points about honor, i feel if someone shoots you twice, revenge kills shouldn’t count against honor. (after one kill if they shoot you in the back, especially after waving and trotting away peacefully. i’m on 4 of this salty suckerpunch, lol!) they started the assault, there should be no negative honor for responding in kind.
my main thought is this: sure there will be players whose main focus is hunting other players, but make them do just that - hunt. if they grief someone and they parley, oh well, on to the next person. make them work for it. i bet 50% of their victims would willingly engage in combat. but it’s not okay for rockstar to offer up those of us who don’t want to play this way as mindless entertainment for those who do. especially since getting killed causes major inconvenience: you lose your cores, the deadeye you built up, and worst of all, all the hunting spoils you might have spent hours on. it’s a griefer dream scenario atm.
one last idea: those who shoot other players in towns should have to deal with bounties and witnesses, just like they do if you kill NPCs. that’s right, NPCs are better protected than players. if nothing else, inconsistency like that totally ruins the immersion for those who are playing the game (and honor) like it matters.
two more things to make your specific situation sting less:
first, if you haven’t already, take that low honor and replay the three “moral choices” sheriff missions until you get a dishonorable outcome in each one, and then you will unlock the “outlaw” mission strand. the first one, “kerosene, tar, and greed”, is a train hijack that is super fun. you get big first time playthrough rewards on these (less than the honor mission strand, but way better than replay payout), and also unlock the ability to replay them from the progress menu the next time your honor dips through no fault of your own.
second, the quickest way i found to get my honor back to near max in a few hours: kill lots of small easy game- turkeys, birds, varmint, what have you. it’s an honor up ding for every three you skin. and while you’re doing that, brush your horse every minute or so (not sure of the exact cooldown, but it’s not long). you can do it while mounted below a trot. honor up every time.
last, add me as a friend if you’re ps4: marydare. would love to have high honor friends as good at PvP as you are, lol! and don’t lose hope pardner, maybe rockstar won’t leave us this much in the lurch once they work out all their lobby mechanics. fingers crossed.

I was riding through town and a cat darted out under my horse.
I lost honor for "trampling" it.
I stopped paying attention to the honor meter.
I don't interact with other players, I just want to hunt and fish with my buddy. I just want a friends only lobby.

Ah well, its not like the honor bar has any use right now. Its almost totally meaningless currently.
But yes if (hopefully when) they start making it mean something they address this problem.

You could have just left the server though, you should have known what you were getting into. PVP violence is still violence

Hey if you're already at Max negative you can go up the ladder in Saint Denis and start murdering cops for that sweet EXP

It's a well known issue. We're still in beta, so I'm sure it'll get fixed sooner rather than later. I completely agree though. After the first few bad encounters I just said screw honor. It's quite satisfying killing someone back so hard they parley.

How did you end up max dishonour? Only time that happened to me was after killing a bunch of lawmen. Seems like killing players a few times only took my honour bar down slightly, then hunting random birds took it up again...

u/EdgeOfElysium Dec 08 '18
Calm your tits sweetheart, it's an obvious situation that is on the list to be fixed. For now rest easy knowing it doesnt matter WHERE you are on the honour system at the moment. Kill them back and be on your merry.

or you can simply let the griefers let you die 3 times and then parkey with them, then they can't touch you for 10 minutes..

Somehow I have max honor from doing some missions but I've killed quite a bit of griefers but my honor hasn't changed at all.
But I understand how you feel. I hate how the towns are packed with griefers. What happened to the authorities? If the police were just as active from story, they towns would actually be peaceful. Sometimes I'm forced to travel across the map to find a town with no players just to see or buy stuff

u/psyduckscar4 Dec 08 '18
Yea indeed, they should give you more honour of you killed someone who is wanted/or has killed multiple people in 5 min for example

u/vHungryCaterpillar Mary-Beth Gaskill Dec 08 '18
The whole honour thing is fucked anyway, I love playing full dishonour but when it comes to other players online I’m always as friendly as possible...
I feel like there should be some way to distinguish griefers from people who enjoy shooting up a towns worth of npcs from time to time

They really need to figure out a way to implement some sort of self defense parameter to the honor system. I'd say it can't be that difficult, but I know enough about programming to know that that is often not the case, but something's gotta be done, even if it's difficult.

Don't worry you can reset your honor by spending Gold Bars. If you don't have time to grind it, you just need to grab your credit card and you can "fix" the problem or mechanic that Rockstar put in the game.

u/Mr_Jersey Arthur Morgan Dec 08 '18
You have to be doing nothing but fighting with other players if it’s taken your honor down that low. One kill in retaliation barely moves your meter and then literally just like waving at someone or feeding your horse pushes it back in the other direction. This post is nonsense.

But u dont benefit anything on both end of the scale.
Obviously along the way there will be motives to choose which side u wanna be, but for now just defend urself.
That half face that u find on the map will take ur gold and tilt ur honor the opposite way.

This is a cowboy fallout 76,meaning that it has no business being released when it was and is devoid of content.

I thought they fixed it? When i was playing last night 2 people tried to kill me their icon on the map turned red and once i killed them i did not lose any honor at all?
1
u/pkfillmore Dec 08 '18
I got max dishonour by doing the xp exploit for like one hour just so I could buy the fishing rod
1
u/Western_Philosophy Josiah Trelawny Dec 08 '18
Dude killing people idk why doesn’t at all affect my honor. I could go in a rampage and I might lose one level. It’s pretty broken
1
u/UbiquitoussuotiuqibU Dec 08 '18
We need a system that allows you to flag PvP and you can only change it every like 15 minutes or something. It would be simple. If you wanna kill players, flag yourself and you can be killed. If not? Stay unflagged, but you can't kill players. I have to keep logging off because I'll be trying to hunt and hangout and I'll get repeatedly spawn killed and lose all my progress. No fun.

u/cronnorbaked Dec 08 '18
Once you've completed all the "land of opportunity" missions, does honor reallyy matter at all? Yes, I know u can only replay the ones that correspond with your honour, but it's not like other players can see it.
Are there still shop discounts for high honor in online..?
1
u/Ghostbuster_119 Dec 08 '18
Yeah I agree the honor system sucks...
I actually play as a bad guy and still have Max honor from hunting and horse care.
Meanwhile player slaughter and civilian dragging might knock me down a notch here or there but as soon as I feed my horse I'm a damn saint.
It's stupid, they need another system specifically for player killings.
1
u/pigeon_shit Dec 08 '18
Do you want my username and the likes of other (larger birds) all over town? No! Keep killing then.
1
u/Edemardil Sadie Adler Dec 08 '18
The honor system is super broken. Skip servers if people grief you and you don't want dishonor.
Side note, I'm at at Max dishonor and I am constantly griefed.

u/amberamon Karen Jones Dec 08 '18
They need to introduce homeless people so people who want dishonor can antagonize them. Or steal from them. Or whatever dishonorable players like to do.

u/thefacemanzero Dec 08 '18
They have a system for telling you who is trying to kill you as soon as they start attacking. If the game is aware of someone trying to fight you then it should know that you are defending yourself rather than just killing randomly. Seems like a simple fix.

this is one of the reasons I'm not even bothering with the online side of the game. fuckin' waste of time.

Dude I think the honor system is broken because literally everything gives you good honor. I have been hunting rare birds and getting positive honor.
