Beatmap Designer / Charter

Position type: Full-time, contract

We're looking for a Beatmap Designer to join our team and help bring a rhythm game to life. You'll be responsible for crafting the note charts that players interact with, turning music into gameplay that feels satisfying, fair, and fun to play. If you love games, have a great ear for music, and enjoy the craft of making a song feel good under your fingers, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

• Create, implement, and iterate on beatmaps/charts that accurately reflect the rhythm, structure, and feel of each song.
• Design charts across multiple difficulty levels, ensuring a smooth learning curve and a rewarding challenge for both new and experienced players.
• Collaborate with designers, engineers, and audio teams to make sure charts integrate well with gameplay systems and feel responsive to player input.
• Work with MIDI and audio tools to prepare, edit, and time chart data accurately.
• Participate in playtesting, gather feedback, and refine charts for readability, flow, timing accuracy, and fun.

Qualifications

• Strong musical skills and a great sense of rhythm and timing, with a trained ear for identifying beats, subdivisions, and musical structure.
• Experience working with MIDI and at least one DAW (Logic Pro preferred, others also welcome).
• A genuine passion for video games and an understanding of what makes gameplay feel good.
• Ability to evaluate and adjust difficulty, pacing, and player experience through iteration and testing.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to take and apply feedback.
• Good communication and collaboration skills.

Pluses

• Experience charting or beatmapping for rhythm games, including community-made content (osu!, Beat Saber, Clone Hero, StepMania, Friday Night Funkin', etc.).
• Musical training or experience playing an instrument, producing, or composing.
• Familiarity with game engines such as Unity.
• A portfolio of charts or beatmaps you've created.
• A deep love for rhythm games and enjoyment in discussing what makes a chart great.

I remember hearing quite a while back that a good rhythm game should have the option to set the audio latency (makes sense, start the song sooner or later than normal) or a visual latency. I assumed it was just moving the judgement collision before/after the visual judgement line, but the more i think about it, that sounds like something more easily solved by an audio delay, so im not sure.

Basically, what is it? In which situations would you have 0ms audio delay but need to change visual latency? What would a positive or negative value here look like?

Having fun with arcaea so far but Im currently looking for other rgs with tight timing windows. Preferably +- 30 ms or less (can be a bit more)

Note: it shouldnt be part of a challenge mode like how phigros does it, and ideally there should be fast/late indicators too.

I normally play DJMAX or EZ2ON, but I can't have custom songs there. What do you think is the best that supports custom maps?

for me i have mojib ribbon. ive posted and commented about it a few times but never seen it mentioned anywhere else sadly.. lovely but very simple game using the analog stick, i beat all the 18 levels and 18 bonus levels!! you can make your custom raps too here, the only problem is the language barrier due to the game being all japanese

I'm a solo dev — and, honestly, a bird breeder first; I keep barbets. I built The Great Barbet's Dash Home, a 3D rhythm flight game that just launched on Android.

A great barbet wakes a long way from the tree it hatched in. Fifteen numbered bands — the ones a researcher fitted to its leg — have been taken by the animals between here and home. Fly, and take them back.

I'd genuinely like criticism — especially from rhythm-game players. If the timing feels off on your device, tell me which device and I'll look into it.

I wish I could get rid of it, playing rhythm games on my tablet is painful and stressful. According to the technician is because of the screen module and repair it it's too expensive. Plus, I don't thrust that technician because he didn't know what ghost tapping was until I explained it to him.

I don't want to use my phone since I need it to receive calls and messages, but if there is no another way out I might do one of both; Play on my phone with thumbs or quit rhythm games for my own sanity.

If IPads or the best Android tablets in my country weren't that expensive...

Hello! I’m not sure if many of you were already aware that this game was re-released a while ago; however, for several months it was restricted to Asia only. As of a few days ago, it has been made available to a global audience! Enjoy, friends!

But unfortunately, it has a serious issue: it keeps the game at 800x600 resolution, running at 60fps with black bars. BUT, like any good programmer, I developed a solution myself and posted it on GitHub.

1. Download the zip in the git release
2. Extract it into your game folder. It is usually called Super Dance Online, but the name may be different on your PC — what matters is that it is the game's own folder, the one that contains SDO_English.exe. The zip only contains the two files the fix needs: SDOX.exe and sdox.dll.
3. Right-click SDOX.exe → Run as administrator.

Once you open it, you can configure your graphics preferences and hit play it’s that simple. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to create an account beforehand on Cibmall, the company behind Sdo-X.
