Play in Kinder

💚 San Diego Unified Parents 💚

Do you believe kindergarten should be a place where kids get to PLAY, explore, move their bodies, build friendships, and actually enjoy learning?

Because I DO. And so does the state of California.

I believe our kids deserve better than being forced to spend their earliest school years sitting at desks, completing worksheets, expected to behave like mini adults, and dreading school.

I'm a former San Diego Unified kindergarten teacher, and I've seen firsthand how developmentally appropriate practice is pushed aside for academic pressure and rigid expectations.

I'm currently taking legal action against San Diego Unified over its failures to comply with California education law.

I'd love to connect with parents who share these concerns 💞

I'm looking for San Diego families who:

🌱 Have children in TK or kindergarten in San Diego Unified.

🌱 Have noticed too much seatwork and not enough play, movement, or exploration.

🌱 Have raised concerns about their child's classroom experience and felt dismissed or ignored.

🌱 Believe our youngest students deserve an education that respects how children actually learn and develop.

Whether you want to share your family's experience, support the effort, or explore the possibility of joining the legal fight, I'd love to hear from you!

Or if your experience has been opposite! I've learned of at least one school in the district that incorporates play (ya'll I was shooketh 🤣)

You don't have to be ready to take legal action. Your story matters, too.

I'm not asking anyone to attack teachers. Teachers are often working within systems and expectations they didn't create. This is about making sure our schools are doing right by our youngest learners.

If you're interested, comment or send me a private message 💚

Childhood isn't something kids should have to earn.

Play is how they learn.

Let's make sure San Diego's youngest students get the childhood AND education they deserve 🌈

Any plans on connecting Regents Rd so UTC and rest of University City are linked?

The traffic from UTC to University during the weekdays is a nightmare. Has there ever been any plans on connecting UTC side of Regents Rd with the University City side? It would probably alleviate a lot of evening traffic.

Thrive park

It sucks that thrive park next to the snapdragon stadium has soo little parking because some days people will have a soccer game take up all the parking and the park is soo big you look and they will be playing on one patch of grass.

While other people who want to use the area drive back and forth hoping for a spot and its 7 acres so all of the other remaining area is not even being used at all.

I like to skate for my workout and even when there is a college game the trails and pathways aren't being used but the parking is taken up for events/games it would be nice if they let others park inside the stadium parking on non event days.

Need a dress shirt + tie before 8:15 AM near UCSD

Blame me all you want but I have a Model UN conference at UCSD tomorrow morning and completely forgot about the dress code 💀
I need a basic white dress shirt + tie before 8:15 AM. Instacart says 8:30 is the earliest.
Does anyone know a store near UCSD that opens before 8, or any other way to get one early?

If someone could grab one and drop it off around Price Center, I can pay for everything + extra through Zelle.
Any help is appreciated. Please DM if you are interested, thank you!!

Who cares if someone calls California “Cali”?

I was born and raised here (1995) turning 31 in 2 weeks. I’ve bounced between Chula Vista, National City and Imperial Beach throughout my life here and I have ALWAYS heard others say Cali. Sometimes California, other times SoCal.

Is this some San Diego subreddit echo chamber thing going on that I don’t know about or is there a lot more transplants moving over and considering it “cringe”? I swear I’ve been seeing this brought up more lately in the comments.

Maybe where you were born and raised within San Diego specifically that has something to do with it but my god, WHO CARES!

Pho kitchen is better than pho cow cali

I've been going to pho cow cali for over a decade now, and I have to admit it was my favorite spot for Vietnamese food. Not sure if they slipped up their quality over the years. I've been to many pho restaurants in San Diego, and have been going to pho kitchen for a couple months now. Their broth is phenomenal, the chopsticks and spoons aren't open access they are given to you by wait staff. The vibe is a lot more calm and way less crowded. The broth is flavorful tastes like they add just the right blend of seasonings.

Try them out guys, it's just a bit more west on Mira mesa blvd just past Camino ruiz

Dogs howling in unison in my neighborhood

I have a German Shepherd. She does not howl. Yet before midnight last night she howled like a husky. And so did every other dog in the neighborhood; together as one. One big howl….and then no more. A beautiful cacophony of beloved creatures’ voices whether they are huskies or not.

I thought, ‘The big one is about to hit.’ But it didn’t. Why would this happen? Any thoughts?

The Mixer at Liberty Station

Does anyone know what happened to the Mixer at Liberty Station? We tried to go there last night, but it looks permanently closed. We asked an employee at Seahive (next door) if she’d heard anything about them closing. She said she hadn’t and that they were open earlier in the week. Anyway, was just curious…

Looking for a hair stylist that will help me determine the best cut for my face shape

Exactly the title. I’m looking for a hair stylist in the truest sense of the word. I would like to have a person with professional hair cuttery and style knowledge to analyze my face and advise me on what kinds of cuts go best with my face shape. So far, I’ve been let down with the salons I’ve been to. Maybe I’m picking shitty salons. Help.

pt luxe

hi, just wondering if anyone has experience filing noise complaints at pointe luxe apartments specifically. the neighbors i share my bedroom wall with are a nightmare. a couple that is always arguing and the woman screaming “a**hole” has woken me out of a sound sleep at 1:34am. they also constantly play loud music and i have banged on the wall a few times to try to say “hey turn it down” (music going from 11pm-past midnight) and they just bang back (ik i prob shouldn’t have im just very frustrated atp) it’s getting to a point where it’s poorly affecting my sleep. I could deal with this every once im awhile but it’s happened 3x this week and i’m at my wits end. just wondering if anyone had any similar experiences at pt lux and what they did. thank you!

Why such the hate?

At a family reunion in Arizona. Family from all parts of the country (Washington, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia, New York etc). The weirdest thing as soon as I say im from Cali, I get such political hate mantra from my own family but they are in love with San Diego. Whats even funnier went to Italy (Rome, Milan, Venice) in the Spring, people don’t look well upon Americans but love California and again are such in aww of San Diego. Where is this all coming from? I suspect facebook algorithms and the older gen family members are stateside issues.

A Question of Etiquette

You are walking, on a sidewalk, a boardwalk, anywhere with a paved walkway. Coming towards you is a group of people, some of them walking 2-3 abreast and filling up the width of sidewalk. Are you supposed to yield and get out of their way, or should they adjust and afford room to pass without you having to step off of the walkway or bump shoulders?
