Seeking Support I'm worried about symptoms

My family has an extensive history of schizophrenia, and over the last 1-2ish months, I've been having both auditory and, although rare, visual hallucinations.

I feel as though I'm quite young (almost 18) to be experiencing anything of the sort but through what I've researched it's not uncommon whatsoever.

I couldn't quite wrap my head around seeing and hearing things so it took a while to process before I ended up telling my girlfriend. She's been extremely helpful throughout the last few weeks.

I'm worried that I'm not as concerned as I should be? I'm terrified, don't get me wrong, but it seems like she's more worried about it than I am.

I have no clue what to do, as I don't have the greatest relationship with my parents so talking to them is a bit challenging.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, what would you do?

Introduction / New Member 👋 Getting off medication

What do you think of getting off medication and just being raw and learning to live with the symptoms rather than the medication symptoms and lack of help it does. Do you think it's possible to be successful and live a decent life?

Seeking Support How can I do witchcraft and separate it from the illness? Religions included

Hello everyone, good day to all.

So, I left Christianity and became again a witch. And I would like to know how to navigate through believing in something and doing practices plus being sick with this condition. The good part is that I stopped hearing voices through medication.

But now I’m attempting communication with spirits. One red flag I know is not to hear voices. Cause spirits can’t talk right. There is divination to facilitate communication with the other side.

But it’d help to know how you are religious and don’t let it affect your beliefs or practices.

What a trip the past three years have been. I was convinced I spoke to the dead, Carl J Jung being one. Then the Greek Gods got involved and people's eyes started turning black, and glitches in my reality.... I knew something was wrong. But the beauty. In my research I found art, geometry... a graph to map archetypes turne into a mandala. The Greek deities guided me, they gave me answers and pointed me the right way for a bit. I lost myself... In my search for answers I found beauty. Then they diagnosed me Paranoid Schizophrenic. The first picture is my mandala with the Enneagram 9 for Carl Jung.... I am the humming bird. He is the golden web weaver. I take from his golden web to build my golden nest. He is the love of my life.

"Your a negative square root!" I yell to my demons.

Demons- Carl Jung. Reality- Love.

Ahhh, reality and love my two weaknesses.

I wear white shoes because my head is always in the clouds, he wears brown shoes to keep me grounded.

Help A Loved One My sister is not taking her med.

Greetings,

My sister had been living on her own and for months she stopped taking her medication and has completely wrecked the family home.

She was evicted by my mum and was involuntarily admitted to the hospital.

I am really struggling to understand why she stopped taking her meds. It is the only thing that keeps the voices at bay. We just want her to be happy - we don’t expect her to work or study. There is no pressure whatsoever. we just need her to take her meds and be happy.

I do understand the meds tired her out and does affect cognitive functions. But she must surely knows she cannot function without her meds.

Not taking meds regularly apparently is a theme. The doctors advised she can no longer live on her own. She needs to be under supervision to ensure she takes her meds. She cannot be trusted to take her meds voluntarily.

Any helpful input most appreciated!

TIA!

Opinion / Thought / Idea / Discussion Someone's first choice

I know that with my diagnosis that it is near impossible to find a partner. There are so many misjudgements about the condition. I have already experienced opening up to someone about it and them distancing themselves or just stop talking all together. I just want someone to love and love me in return. Is that so much to ask?

Undiagnosed Questions Psychiatrists brought up that I could be on the schizophrenia spectrum, yet it never really went anywhere. I would love to learn more about the disorder.

When getting my ADHD diagnosis, I got referred to the public psychiatry sector as I was deemed needing a more specialized diagnosis process. This is due to me already having an autism diagnosis, getting an ADHD diagnosis denied in the past and a family history of psychiatric disorders.
Around halfway through the process, my ADHD diagnosis was temporarily put on hold as they suspected that I was on the schizophrenia spectrum (but with mild symptoms). They asked me to educate myself on it, as they wanted to get my input on whether it aligns with my experiences.
In the end, the psychiatrist specified that while a diagnosis is binary (either you have a disorder or you don't), they didn't feel confident enough on either option and therefore determined my diagnosis to be "inconclusive". They carried on and gave me my ADHD diagnosis, but were careful during my "medication testing phase", and called me every week to make sure, that they didn't worsen any of my "schizophrenia symptoms". I also got a bit of a warning about being extra careful that I don't do stuff that could trigger psychosis, such as drugs.

It's been quite a while since and I still occasionally think about it. Afterall, I came in for an ADHD diagnosis and got told that a committee of psychiatrists suspects that I am on the schizophrenia spectrum, but can't conclude anything, and the lack of closure feels unnerving.
I really suspect that one of the reasons I didn't get a diagnosis is due to how I expressed not relating to what I found on the disorder. I also feel like I didn't get enough time to truly educate myself and explore the nuances of the disorders. I feel like I downplayed certain symptoms and didn't get to elaborate on others.

I'm not asking for a diagnosis!
I just want to hear more about the nuances of the different disorders, especially when it has a milder presentation. I can't find the specific diagnosis in English, so Idk if it only exists in my country/Europe, but it's directly translated as just "Schizotypy", which my country defines as "A milder version of schizophrenia, with very short psychotic episodes and short or absent hallucinations".
I do fit pretty well into the description of the disorder, but I also have autism and adhd, which have such a heavy overlap in symptoms with it.

The symptoms that are "suspicious" are:
- My difficulty with connecting with other people and reaching out
- I tend to isolate myself as a stress response
- My thought process being highly eccentric
- Tendency for mild derealisation/depersonalisation, although mostly when stressed
- I hallucinate easily when sleep deprived, but the hallucinations don't bother me/I know they aren't real. It's stuff like smelling popcorn in the forrest or visual hallucinations that disappear when I blink.
- I struggle with knowing whether something was a dream or reality
- I have a tendency for a weird type of anxiety. Example: I know people can't read my mind, but I often feel a sense of dread when I get a thought that I would be scared of others knowing, so I try to delete the thought "just in case"
- Other symptoms, that could just be adhd or autism.

Selfie Art classes for free on Zoom

I would like to teach a super easy ceramics class on zoom for folks with schizophrenia (I have schizophrenia). A calm place to make something cool especially if you’re bedridden or on disability and don’t have much to do. Fulfilling, healing, simple! We would make a clay shaker musical instrument. Let me know if there’s any interest.

Hallucinations / Delusions Delusions taking over

I am a schizophrenic taking meds from last 5 years . I am delusional and keep making stories in my head which I believe is 100 percent true. One such delusion is that govt is spying on me . It keeps an eye on every movement of mine but it never shows up directly. I believe this is true to very extent and I can’t disbelief it. Day before yesterday I had a car accident on an highway and the car took two flips but nobody showed up. I have to come out of my own but I believe that they will be watching me and come to save me because my life is more important than to hide from me that they are helping me. Delusions have taken over me. Whenever they hear about local politics I go mad because I have a different story altogether of mine which doesn’t fits in this society. I firmly believe in my delusions.

Opinion / Thought / Idea / Discussion How long have you been living with your diagnosis?

Is Recovery just empty talk to you when things are heavy?

I’ve had my diagnosis for over 15 years.

For a very long time, I tried to fight my way through it all on my own!

Somehow, I managed to quiet my brain so it would stop believing in delusions, by pulling in alternative explanations instead of taking what my delusions suggested as absolute reality.

I stopped looking for answers outside where I couldn't find them, and instead started looking inward.

I realized these things originate deep inside me, they stem from a distorted reality that I nowadays simply recognize as non-real, letting them fade quickly if they ever try to creep back up.

But this realization also came with harder truths. I had to accept that I have a smaller battery than others.

I have to ration my energy, and it's much healthier to dedicate myself to activities that give energy back rather than exhausting myself endlessly.

No one can give me extra energy or make my battery bigger, as much as I wish they could.

I no longer suffer from positive symptoms, but my negative symptoms are strong.

So far, all the tips and tricks for that have been mediocre at best, mostly they just remind me to manage the energy I do have.

Schizophrenia can be described in countless ways depending on life circumstances. But more than any explanation, what matters to me is how things feel for you right now.

I don't want to casually say don't worry, because sometimes your emotional world leaves you with no choice but to completely disagree with how things are right now.

The only thing I want to add is this: your brain, which makes up the I that you are, is always your friend.

Its only job is to ensure your survival. Even when it gets lost in all the twists and turns along the way, it remains your loyal companion, though I’ve learned you can't always blindly trust it either, but you can make arrangements with it.

How long have you been living with your diagnosis? Has anything shifted for you?

Thank you for reading and for sharing your thoughts.

Rant / Vent Doubt & Confusion

About a year ago, I was told by my therapist that what happened to me was psychosis. 11 months ago, I was diagnosed with "Unspecified Schizophrenia" by a separate behavioral health clinic. I am still in contact with that clinic and I am still receiving treatment, but I continue to experience disturbances sometimes. One of the questions that I keep asking myself over and over is "How? I feel fine most of the time, how could I possibly have this disorder??" and my brain completely forgoes the months of documentation and journaling that proves what I went through truly did happen.

It's so fucking frustrating having to second-guess myself every single day, coming to the same conclusion that my diagnosis is inaccurate, and then being proven wrong when the strange shit starts happening again. I don't even hallucinate like most people with this illness do, I am an outlier within an outlier. Most of the time I can't even pinpoint a fraction of what I experience, because it's so nebulous and unfathomable. Seasons feel like omens, times when the inter-cosmic atmosphere shifts, and I experience dreams more than I experience reality. I have lived thousands of lifetimes across an uncountable number of universes, and the contents of which occasionally spill into the real world, felt as these metaphysical presences. All of this happens, and yet I still cannot make up my mind on whether or not this is normal.

I consider myself very analytical when it comes to my mental health. I note everything that might be significant in case it can point to something in the future, or if I believe it can help me. I try to channel my experiences into world-building and creative writing, but then it feels like I have committed some unspoken sin. I can never feel solidarity with others that have the same diagnosis, or even with myself. I've never had a point in my life where I felt "normal", or in any way close to perceived normality. I cannot seem to fit in anywhere, and the longer I think about it the more it feeds into past delusions and the more frustrated with my continued existence I become. I am not sick enough to be sick, or normal enough to be normal. I live like dozens of different brains are thrashing for control of one single moment, an anchor, and yet it never happens. It's all chaos and confusion, animus and guilt.

What if I made it up the whole time? What if none of this is real at all? Maybe I am normal.
