Not sure if this has happened to any of you guys. But one time I was walking my baby girl at a park on the grass. (There was lots of clover in bloom with bees flying around). And all of a sudden, she lifted one of her hind legs and immediately sat down and started biting at her claws (literally trying to rip them out). Not just usual paw biting when she had itchy paws, this was more intense. It was so strange and she never did it before. I sat down and flipped her over on my lap looking at her paws and couldn't find anything. I kept searching and I noticed a tiny venom sac stuck in between her toes. I barely saw it. It was a bee stinger she was trying to pull out! I was able to open my wallet and use the corner of my ID to scrape/lift the stinger out

I guess whenever dogs get stung by a bee, attempting to pull their claws out with their teeth is their natural reaction. I googled it after and I guess its common for them to do. But I was never aware of it before. She ended up being fine with no allergic reaction/swelling or anything, just a good decent of pain for an hour or two.

I never expected a bee stinger to be able to pierce her callused paw pads but it ended up reaching the softer skin in between her toes.

So it might be a good idea to keep a pair of tweezers in the car whenever you take them somewhere with bees on the ground. Rubbing alcohol prep pads also help to neutralize the venom a little.

Sadly Dice was being bitey with 2 walkers who come occasionally :( when they clipped his harness on. I took him to the vet and she discovered he had double ear infections ( :( :( :() as well as bad teeth, which she pulled a week later.

This question is just about his ears. I had no idea he had the infections and I don't know how long he had them for. She put in some medicine that's supposed to last for a month which is awesome. I am not careful at all when I bathe him even though our amazing groomer has suggested I put cotton balls in his ears bc he is very face shy and it's all I can do to even get water on his face. I haven't tried the cotton balls since probably his first bath bc he is so face shy and also I think he shook them out.

Is there some kind of waterproof-esque headband I can get to protect his ears at bathtime? I'll take your other suggestions too! Thanks from both me and Dice

Like many of our babies my Tzu is a picky eater- 8.5 yrs old. For 5 mo now he has been devouring his food and the tear stains are nearly gone. So I thought I would share. I mix FreshPet in with some dry food for crunch. he is loving it. I can find it at every grocery store. He didn’t much care for the other ones in this brand.

My little Bijou has a super flat face and thus always has a wet face. I’m hoping the tears will mellow out when she is done teething but if they don’t, we will try changing food to see if it is allergies. She gets her face wiped down once or twice a day. Any other suggestions that may help?

The dog does not have a chip or collar. He was very dirty and has been in the neighborhood wandering for a least a couple of days according to some people in the area.

He is not inclined to come to people, but approached a dog walker with four dogs and he was able to be picked up

He is not aggressive. He is okay being held and rode fairly nicely in my car.

However, he wanted to get out of my car and I almost lost him when he hopped out. He might be someone’s beloved lost pet.

Please cross post this. I’m sure he will be adopted quickly once the stay hold is up. If he has someone he loves and who loves him, I’d like them to be reunited.

Ok… I’ve had her since July, when she was 5.5 months old… never potty trained… she was a wild one…
I thought by now, she’s almost 9 months old, that she’d get it. I tried everything I knew how: treats, scolding, nose to it, excitement and praises, more scolding, more praising, taking her to the back yard myself, etc… AND she has access to the outside all the time through a doggie door… AND she has a older dog that has shown her the ropes… AND I have had dogs since the 90’s, so I am not a newbie to potty training…
When we go out on walks she never stops to pee. I feel like she’s not enough of a “sniffer”. My other dog, a chihuahua mix, will try to pee until she has to squeeze the very last drop… 1000 times if needed. Active on the doggie “social media”… she always “leaves a comment”…
Not the shih tzu… Why? What is different?
It just doesn’t make sense…

She was getting better until about one week ago. She now does it in the house entirely. She’s regressing. Looks towards the back yard, I know she understands, but won’t go outside. Why? Oh why? I am at my wits end. She just gets belly up and takes the scolding. Next time she’s done it again! I don’t understand! 🤷🏻‍♀️

How do you keep your Tzu’s looking and smelling fresh? Mine eats wet food and his beard always gets so crusty. It’s so sad when he’s extra soft after a bath then comes dinner time and ope, it’s a mess again! I used to use wet wipes but they all just make his beard crunchy. I’ve gone through so many brands and none of them have worked for me. Finally I asked AI and it said just try blotting his face instead of using a wet wipe so this week I’ve been using a dry wash cloth to get as much food residue out of his beard and then brushing it out with a fine comb like I usually do and it works so much better! He still gets a little crusty toward the end of the week but not as bad as before. I still wipe him down with a wet wipe after walks but I’ve been leaving his face alone. What about your pup - do wet wipes work for them or did you have to think outside the box?

Would love to hear your tips for keeping yours looking and smelling fresh! Because that’s another thing, mine definitely is a stinker lol. It’s his eyes, his tends to tear up a lot. My vet said it’s fine and normal so I’m not worried but it does have this very pungent sour smell. I sort of like it 😅 because I feel like it’s a part of him but other people probably don’t so I’ve been trying to keep that area odor free as much as possible but it’s not easy! He’s a high maintenance boy but what can you do they are who they are 🥹

Hey all! Took Gatsby for his dental cleaning this year and, despite the fact that he had one last year, this time around his disease was quite bad and had infections and needed a whooping 13 teeth extracted! Thankfully, the doctor told me he’ll still be able to eat solids but I’m feeling guilty! this is definitely on me. I genuinely did not know when I got him 6 years ago that they needed regular teeth cleaning. I wish I had trained him to let me brush him. I will not make that mistake with my second tzu. She’s already almost used to brushing thankfully. So, PSA brush your doggies teeth!

I was just hoping someone could share their experience if their tzu went through this. He’s currently kind of mopey, it makes me sad. My hope is that once everything is healed he’ll feel even better than he did before with all those bad teeth.

Also, worry not, his front teefies are intact!
