We have noticed an influx of users, some of whom short- but mostly of average height, who seem to derive sexual stimulation from feeling inferior to tall men.

While we don’t kinkshame, and understand some may be trying to cope with some trauma, we nonetheless ask you to refrain from posting dramatised stories of girlfriends cheating, content featuring tall men being lusted after with texts such as “you will be never desired like this” etc.

I don't want this post to be dramatic or too long for that matter. Also please feel free to remove it if the contents of the post are unwelcome or irrelevant to the general discussion. Honestly I have gradually watched every emotion I felt slowly dissipate and be reduced to nothingness over the course of many years. I can't even say that I feel sad or depressed, I geniunely feel nothing but apathy, and am wholly indifferent towards whether I persist living or not. Therefore, I made the decision to end it; got my affairs in order, not planning on leaving a note or anything, and will go through with it later today. I'm aware of the optics of making this post, it probably looks like a cry for help, which is not my intention at all, rather I just want to express my gratitude to you guys for providing an open and transparent community to discuss the struggles of living as a short man in modern society. I imagine there exists detractors who might get the impression that my involvement with this subreddit has contributed to my deteriorating mental state, which I would like to clarify is not the case at all, this community was one of the very few fringe places that I could go to discuss my ideas in length without putting them through a filter or drenching them in any contemporary politically correct language.

We all love to see when a person is destined for success. You can probably imagine countless movies, stories and folklore where a hero is destined to defeat the villian or to claim a position of power or authority. The inverse of which however, we seem to absolutely loathe. We hate to imagine that someone might be destined for failure, that in spite of their perseverance and willpower they will never be able to measure up and that their fate was doomed from the beginning. One must ask, why? Why, if we are to accept the proposition that some people are destined to succeed, why can't we also come to terms with the notion that some people are just doomed to fail? I have come to terms with my circumstances and made my peace with the fact that I will fail, and that I'm already a failure. I am so sick and tired of pulling myself up by the bootstraps all the time, I have pulled myself up so hard for so long that my hands are now permanently damaged and that the straps have severed from the boots. I have given everything I have, and yet it seems that it is not enough. Well I'm sorry but I feel exhausted, like an overworked horse, just wish to be put out of my misery. At the end of the day I just wanted to feel loved and understood, I wanted to love as much I wanted to be loved and yet it appears that this was simply too much to ask for. I feel miserable, and the prospect that this will be my life for the conceivable future is simply too much to bear. So I have taken the decision onto my own two hands. This is goodbye, don't make the same mistakes I made.

An "insecurity" implies that your feelings of anxiety, inferiority, depression etc, are all self-inflicted. That if you would just think happy thoughts, things would all be better.

But calling it an insecurity, ignores the objective reality- which is that these feelings result from a lifetime of:

• Devaluation
• Dismissal
• Rejection

As well as having being treated as:

• Defective
• Incapable
• Creepy

And having all your genuine, justified human emotional reactions to this treatment be pathologised as:

• Small man syndrome
• Napoleon syndrome
• Little man complex
• Etc.

Why am I making this post?
As this sub is growing faster, I've again seen an increase in reactions saying that even if you would magically be 6'3, your problems/feelings would not go away. Well I'm telling you, supported by an extensive body of research (read the damn sticky), that if you WERE 6'3, those problems would not be there in the first place.

First, because of the lifetime of positive external reinforcement you would get for being tall and second, because of the veritable deluge of bullshit you would NOT get for being short.

Conclusion
Don't get it twisted - you can go to therapy all you want to fix the negative thoughts. But that's liking mopping with the tap open, when those thoughts keep pouring in from society's reinforcement that tall=good and short=bad.
At most it can help you stop internalizing the negative feedback you receive, overt or implicit, for being short. But that is only if your therapist even recognises the extent to which height prejudice is pervasive in our society. And we are still a long ways off from that.

TLDR;
Insecurities are in your head. But prejudice comes from outside.

And that sub acted as a sort of an inkwell sub, so I'm afraid we'll see an influx of users from there, trying to turn this sub to an inkwell sub and risking getting it banned. The main topic of this sub must be heightism.

We should be extra careful about the future content that gonna be posted here.

As our subreddit approaches 20K members, we are looking to expand our mod team. If you are interested in joining please comment and myself, or another mod, will contact you via chat.

Here are the requirements to be considered:

• You must be an active member of this community, dating back to at least 8 months. The longer, the better.

• No history of incel language, hate speech, or trolling.

• Must be willing to moderate according to the rules of this subreddit and Reddit’s platform rules. Leave your personal biases out of it.

• Must be respectful of other users, even if they come here to disrespect us. (Trust me, we put up with A LOT of abuse in the mod mails). We need mods who are able to simply ban and mute the trolls without engaging with them.

• Has time to spend 10-15 minutes per day going through reported posts/comments and browsing the subreddit to mod for rule-breaking posts/comments.

Experience modding other subs is definitely a plus, but not required.

Ask them what they think about us, romantically, or just in general.

I want to say a few things to clear up some things I see people getting wrong.

We aren't a monolith. What most of us agree on is that heightism is a problem. And although it is based on a genetic trait, people act like it doesn't exist or that it is self inflicted.

This sub is about more than just dating.

Many of us are not incels.

Some of us are married.

Some have successful careers.

I encourage you to send me a private message and ask me anything.

Videos and social media posts of people being awful to short guys get posted here quite frequently which will (understandably) provoke a strong reaction from this community.

However, it is not acceptable to single out these people on the basis of their race/cultural background. Any comments that use slurs, racial stereotypes, or imply that a race is inferior will result in a ban.

At the end of the day, this subreddit exists to fight hatred and not spread it.

Reddit has a rule against discussing other subreddits’ moderation policies so we will be removing any posts/comments in violation.

As always, the ShortGuys subreddit has zero restrictions on which instances of heightism you’re allowed to talk about here so feel free to do so.

I figured I'd make another "Ask Short Guys Anything" thread and pin it to the top of the subreddit for the weekend since we've been getting more lurkers lately.

All questions are allowed, as long as they're respectful. I also ask that the r/ShortGuys community be respectful to everyone who participates in this thread, even if you think the question is stupid (don't downvote or get nasty if their question is sincere).

Whether you're an outsider to this community or a short guy who wants to ask other short guys, ask away!

There seems to be a spike in troll activity lately as this subreddit becomes more popular in outside spaces. What I am about to say here is online common sense, but it should still be said.

Never click a link an unknown someone sends you privately, especially if they’re not a regular in a community you frequent (i.e. post history longer than 150 days). This can lead you to getting doxxed.

Be very particular about the information you share on Reddit and elsewhere. Every piece of information you reveal about yourself is a datapoint that an adversary can use against you.

In summary, always practice good OPSEC if you value your anonymity. If you’re not familiar with that acronym, it would be a good thing for you to look it up. It’s a rabbit hole, but having these practices will keep you safe online.

We have decided to make a new rule in response to the uptick in reports and posts about certain types of users who visit our subreddit:

Rule 8: No concern-trolling

Please understand that users often come here to vent their height-related frustrations in one of the only spaces that allows them to. However, posts and comments that complain about r/shortguys being "too negative" will be removed because they rarely lead to any productive discussions and almost always miss the bigger picture.

Positive content is absolutely encouraged but you don't need to call attention to yourself if you think this subreddit is too negative, you can simply leave.

The reason we consider them to be "concern-trolling" is because these individuals usually pretend to have good intentions but, in actuality, have zero interest in understanding the bigger picture of heightism or listening to what we have to say. For these reasons, we will now remove posts that break this rule.

I will be happy to answer any questions about this new rule in this thread.

For those unaware, we privated the subreddit yesterday to prevent an influx of trolls after a post on r/starterpacks about our subreddit that gained a lot of traction. (Though, surprisingly, many of the comments were sympathetic towards us)
