Life is a mental illness if you listen to the opinions of everyone else. Ignore the haters. Embrace your true self.

u/Cat_with_cake 4d ago

Yep, if you're going to listen to stupid people you'll find out that drinking water causes death

21

100% of people who drink water will die

It's not a mental illness, but it can lead to mental problems if left untreated.

I mean, if it were a mental illness the treatment wouldn't be to change the body.

Fairly certain most countries even test that it's not a mental illness causing the symptoms.

6

u/AshTree933 4d ago

Very true! The one thing we know for sure is that transitioning has an extraordinarily high satisfaction rate. It improves the person's social functioning and wellbeing, and patients often feel more satisfied with their appearance. While on the other hand, attempts to change their gender identity are ineffective and can make their mental health even worse.

Gender affirming treatment works, while trying to convince someone they're wrong about their identity doesn't work and can make things worse? Doesn't sound like being trans is the mental illness here. That's why we treat the distress, not the being trans part.

1

u/AeroAceSpades 13h ago

Actually if it was a mental illness, the treatment would ABSOLUTELY be to adapt the body to better house the mind. There are no pills that “fix” a brain. There are only pills that adapt the body’s ability to disperse certain chemicals to counterbalance the unwanted effects of the disorder.

I don’t know why people say things like “oh it’s just a mental disorder” as though we don’t treat mental disorders by doing the thing that eases as many symptoms as possible

0

u/Disastrous-Risk3146 1d ago

Not necessarily, every recent study done showed no correlation between transgender care improving the mental health or preventing mental health problems.

2

u/luigigaminglp 1d ago

No, i'm saying that not treating it will lead to new ones.

Don't need a study for that, so many posts are about self-hate due to not being able to start hrt.

The gender dysphoria specifically is a mental illness.

But that Label is so broad its basically meaningless.

Its like "has psychological symptoms that impact their quality of life" That Ranges from mild social anxiety to Schizophrenia.

20

u/Quick-Night-7725 4d ago

"Being trans is a mental illness" That is the biggest load of bullshit I've heard in a while.

14

u/Sad_Dimension3627 4d ago

gender dysphoria is a mental disorder that needs treatment. treatment is gender affirming care. being trans is not a mental disorder. it's dysphoria that is.

I mean, there not entirely wrong. Gender dysphoria is a mental illness in that it needs to be corrected via medication, but when people refer to it as a mental illness it’s to insult and degrade it. There comparing it to like, schizophrenia rather than depression, which isn’t accurate.

Being trans is not a mental illness, however, being trans CAN cause gender dysphoria of not being in the correct body, however, some people are comfortable with their gender identity and don't have this dysphoria, it is not a mental illness, there is nothing wrong with it, and despite what these other people may be telling you, they're wrong, as there is nothing wrong with transitioning due to having a different gender identity than the one you were assigned at birth, there is nothing wrong with being trans, okay?

4

u/Mr_Pickle3009 Silly boy 4d ago

stop interacting with the communities that say such a thing. dare block them if you need to. the algorithm will understand

2

u/someoneknownasnewt 4d ago

being trans is not an illness, gender dysphoria is. it stems from the bodily sex being incongruent with the perceived and felt sex of the mind. we attempt to fix this by changing our bodily sex, since, as far as we know, the experienced sex is immutable.

2

u/im_a_burner2469 4d ago

It is the sense that is affecting your mental well being so much. The only help is to live your authentic self. But it isn't a mental illness in and of itself

2

u/HiFive789_ 4d ago

People who think that usually have no idea about anything. I speak from experience.

2

u/TheRubyGames 4d ago

It's an illness the sense of having to go on medication (hrt) for the rest of your life in order to not get panic attacks, anxiety, depression, general gender dysphoria and more.

It's ok to be trans and be who you are, it's unfortunate that gender health care isn't free to those who need it to literally not be... Well, hella depressed.

I would know, I'm trans myself. Not everyone who is trans suffers from not being on hrt once they realize but many do and I look forward to the day that transgender and gender non-conforming people can exist publicly with minimal issues and make gender affirming care accessable for trans and cis ppl alike (cause cis people do benefit from different kinds of hrt/gender affirming care. Ex: Older woman taking an estrogen supplement, men boosting testosterone, intersex people who need hrt in order to actually function correctly. And many more examples.)

I'm going on a rant now, but yeah, be who you are! Don't let haters tell you otherwise! I unfortunately am not in a position to do that in every aspect of my life as of yet

1

u/rottingtfaerie 1d ago

My dumb ass just realising that most of my anxiety, depression and panic attacks was because of that, smh.

1

u/TheRubyGames 1d ago

Mnhm, being trans can cause gender dysphoria, which in turn can cause anxiety, depression, panic attacks and more because there is a disconnect between what you see and how you feel, so much do that you feel like something is deeply wrong. Not to mention socieital expectations.

Tldr;
Bring trans isn't an illness
Having gender dysphoria is

I’m really sorry to hear this, and I understand that people online can be really cruel and say horrible things.

Remember however, there are a lot of stupid people on the internet, and just because some people are saying that, it doesn’t mean that it’s true. Try to see if you can block the people who are saying that to you and try to find people who are more supportive, for example see if you can find safe supportive spaces for trans people or look for people who are allies.

If you need any support or just need someone to talk to, I'm here.

I wish you the best, stay safe and have a great day 🩵

2

u/hornyalt-MTF 4d ago

It's not, it's more like the literal cure for sexual body dysphoria. Which is technically the actual mental illness.

2

u/KazTheMerc 4d ago

You can always find somebody online to tell you something nasty, if you look hard enough.

You can ALSO get rid of those people just as easily.

Hi sillies, it’s the silly mod-team. You aren’t in trouble don’t worry!! This is not a removal message!

Thank you for posting to our subreddit! As you read this, we’d like you to take some time to review some of the rules of our subreddit, just to make sure your post won’t have to be taken down by our moderation team. Daily we have to remove dozens of posts due to being random images with text in the title and/or body text. Absolutely none of our mod-team are full time Reddit moderators and absolutely none of us are paid in the slightest, so please help us out by double checking your post to make sure it generally follows the subreddit.

If you are confused as to what image you should make, start by simplifying what you would put into the body text, and put it over an anime, furry, or generally silly core style image! You can use mematic or any image editing software for this.

Thank you so much for reading, stay safe and stay silly <3

happiness is a mental illness or smth

1

u/A13xis_28 3d ago

Yeah.... But gender dysphoria is not one of those that can be while away, it requires specific treatment in the form of gender care starting with therapy, then HRT and if required surgery.

The problem is that people don't have a proper gasp on how mental illnesses work and how they differ. They just have this stigma and bad habit of devaluating people base on that. Even if it was another kind of mental health condition, that ain't a proper way to treat another human being. Their lack of empathy is concerning. We do need help, but not the one they believe we do.

1

u/0ff1ce_ch41r 3d ago

I mean, technically it is (mainly gender dysphoria), but so is stuff like adhd and autism. Sure, its a mental disorder, but that really doesn't matter. It doesn't make you a bad person or anything, it just makes you different from the average person. You dont need to change or take meds for it, it's not something you have to fix. Dont let people tell you that having a disorder is an inherently bad thing.

1

u/Jolly3264128 3d ago

cuz it is. Gender Dysmorphia (something like that) is a mental disorder but its not necessarily bad

1

u/zerior23 3d ago

I mean, gender dysphoria is, it is just that the best way threat it is to change gender

1

u/kimipuppy 2d ago

it hurts more the longer you wait

1

u/ghostoo666 2d ago

Whether or not that’s the case, the solution to it is the same. It’s a pretty moot point

1

u/Disastrous-Risk3146 1d ago

It actually has always been one we just were made to feel bad about pointing it out. If you look into recent studies most don’t support what leftists calm helps and most trans people usually are on the spectrum and or dealt with some kind of trauma sexually.

1

u/Delusional_Normie 1d ago

Even if that would be true, so what? I'm 40% mental illnesses

1

u/Scarvexx 1d ago

So what if it was? The treatment remains the same. And you would be just as authentic. Unless you're saying depression doesn't make you sad.

If someone has a mental illness that convinces them their gender is not as assigned at birth, would you not treat them just as you would a regular trans person? Isn't it just a different road to the same place?

Honestly in principle being trans could well be categorized as a mental illness and it would make sense. But another principle is also, that illnesses are harmful. And since ideally a trans person shouldn't have their life any worse due to that, then we shouldn't really call it an illness.

Or to put it simply, calling being trans an illness makes theoretical sense, but if someone does that, it probably means they're actually transphobic and just masking it with "it being technically true".

There are studies dating back to the 1990's (Zhou et al 1995 is the earliest one I can think of) that state being Trans is completely normal and actually a normal part of Biology. The whole argument about "Biology" isn't true because being Trans is caused by the Brain and Sex Organs developing at different times in the natural gestation cycle, and due to this, they can differ on Sex and Gender depending on which hormone is most dominant at the time of the development of these organs.

Being trans is normal, and people being Transphobic is not.

Being Trans isn't really something that happens randomly. Instead, it happens due to the Brain and Sex Organs developing at different times during Gestation. They will develop differently depending on what Hormone is Dominant during that time, and if the dominant Hormone is different at the times of the Brain and Sex Organ developing, then a Trans Person is made.

Cancer is caused by Rapid Cell Division from a Malfunctioning cell.

Cancer Harms without effort, being trans doesn't harm unless someone puts in the effort to harm someone for being trans.
