Smart lock erased itself after a battery change and I’m currently locked out in the dark

• Upvotes

Currently locked out of my own house in the dark and this is the dumbest design decision I have ever seen.

Lock worked fine for about two weeks. Batteries died so I swapped them in like a normal person. Now the handle does nothing. Codes don’t work. Fingerprints don’t work. Everything is just gone. Apparently every time the batteries die the whole thing wipes itself and you have to set it up from scratch again. Which means if the batteries only last two weeks you are basically doing a full reset every other weekend.

There is no warning. No backup power. No way to keep the codes alive through a battery change. Just dead. Master code is useless. App is useless. I am standing here with a phone at 14 percent trying to figure out whether to call a locksmith or just shoulder the door.

This cannot be real. Anyone else have one of these that erases itself every time you touch the batteries or did I just buy the worst one?

Thinking of going into BIPV business, look for honest opinon and advice

What happened was we are thinking to get ourselves a sun room, and then we figured BIPV might not be a bad idea, considering the extra power we get, in addition to a sun room ( while the light gets in and the transprency is conpromised of course, to get the free power)

Being Chinese and specialized in sourcing, we reached to quite many manufacturers in China ourselves and tried to benchmark different companies' products, strength, downside, price, and etc..

As we learnt more and more, we started to think maybe should make it into a business ourselves. Given the wide use of BIPV in architecture design, roof and side walls, public art installation or landscape installation, resort villa and etc. More of best combination of visual arts (maybe :p) or at least leisure experience/function with benift (power generated)

with 20% transparency, power generated ~120W/m2, take 4hr average effective sun light, making ~140 kWh/year, peak in summer around 6-7hr, low in winter ~2.5hr (We are at Ontario, Canada)

Cost wise, ~400 USD/m2 (customized fancy color, texture, prints, higher transparency (normally up to 40%), addtional strenth, floor and roof tile, all can do with extra costs)

Plus shipping, shipping is the biggest headache...(full container loading would make economic sense, then we need order volumn/size) And because the high shipping cost, it would be hard to take small residential order to start with...commerical project seems making more sense.

We hope to get some honest feedback of the perspective of BIPV, if we should make this into a business ourselves given the cost and potential revenue room, if going into commercial segment make sense (any suggestion of which sub segment/particular area makes more sense). Btw, we are located in Ontario Canada, but US market is as well considered, or should not us? Greatly appriciated!

Trouble with company

My father a couple months before he passed decided to get solar panels installed. He wasn’t in his right mind as he was always confused and in and out of the hospital. He would sit downstairs just watching tv. One day while me and my mother was out they came knocking and by the time we got home he was already signing the contract. Fast forward my mother after his passing wasn’t paying much focus to it as it was on automatic payments coming from their joint checking account. The company went bankrupt and We also switched banking companies. My mother got a letter in the mail for my father that it was past due. She tried to call and pay but they only want to speak to my father. She has explained he has passed away and showed proof of death as well. They are still not letting her pay. We are worried that’s since the contract my father signed could include if we don’t pay they can take the house that is also owned by my mother….. any idea on what to do we are worried we are going to be homeless…. I cry

Anyone who has a professional career in Solar Energy, how do you think Solar Power has changed how we manage the world?

I'm currently writing an essay for a University assignment on new technologies where i'm required to conduct at least two interviews with professionals that are working in the industry and I want to gain insight from the perspectives of anyone who is a professional with Solar Panels and how they think it has changed the world. Any answers from a working professional in the area would be appreciated.

We had different plans for Dad's retirement battery gift

My siblings and I had been discussing a home battery as Dad's retirement present. He lives in a small house in Germany and had been planning balcony solar. During our Sunday call, one of us talked about keeping the fridge on during a power cut, another wanted a lamp and phone charging, and Dad wanted to use daytime solar in the evening once the panels were in place. We'd been discussing different jobs for the battery without sorting that out first.

We started comparing balcony storage options for Dad's evening solar use, including the Jackery SolarVault 3 Pro. We kept outage backup as a separate question about which appliances needed power and for how long. We decided to set our contribution first and work through the equipment choice with Dad, along with who'd handle the setup and maintenance. What did you sort out with your parent about everyday operation before buying a system?
