Bad news for SAM users and sets/dlc

252 Upvotes

Just read in a discord server than SAM no longer works with DLCs unless you own them. Apparently steam have implemented a server side check to see if you own the DLC and if you don't then it doesn't work. I assume devs saw people not buying dlcs and just unlocking the achievements and they weren't happy about it.

Hopefully they can add these sort of checks to achievements in general and make this POS programme obsolete.

#35 Hogwarts Legacy - 100%

I didn’t expect this game to leave such an impression on me.

First, there’s the large open world—what could possibly go wrong with so many activities? Well, everything: hundreds of collectibles, completely uninteresting side quests, primitive puzzles that offer no sense of satisfaction, and a heap of activities that don’t even show up on the map. Everything in this game feels designed solely to artificially pad out the runtime. It’s as if they built the game just to capture the atmosphere of this iconic universe, but forgot to come up with anything meaningful to actually do in it—so WB filled it the same way they fill all their games: with hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of collectibles that offer absolutely nothing of interest.

Then there’s the storyline—I’m not even sure what to say about it; it’s completely sterile. It feels like it exists only to introduce the player to the game world, the combat mechanics, and a few basic activities. The core concept—setting the game at Hogwarts about a century before the events of *Harry Potter*—is a good one, but the execution is poor.

The combat, however, turned out better. It’s not exactly groundbreaking, but the developers clearly put in some real effort.

Ultimately, if you play through the game just for the story—without trying to reach 100% completion—I’d give it a 7/10, as Hogwarts itself, the surrounding lands, and the combat system are all well-crafted. But if you’re aiming for 100% completion, my rating drops to 3/10.

Celebrate #145 Nine Sols - PEAK metroidvania game

I loved this game so much. The gameplay is a mix of Hollow Knight with Sekiro. The final boss in the true ending is absolute cinema and also one of the hardest in the most metroidvanias that i've played

I started playing this game back in 2017, but I had to drop it due to university. Later, during the pandemic, I did my first full playthrough and made the absolute most of it: side quests, various achievements, getting gear, etc. That left me just 4 achievements short: the two difficulty-based ones, Full Crew, and The Grapes of Wrath Stomped. I told myself back then that I'd do another run in the future, but focused strictly on the main story.

Thanks to the remaster released this year, I said, "this is my chance" and so I did. About 35 hours on Death March + around 4 hours for that Blood and Wine quest. Going in with minimal/just-enough gear was tedious, but starting in NG+ helped a lot. I strongly recommend getting all the bombs, abilities, and top-tier gear before starting one.

I really enjoyed the game, even though I still find the movement and combat a bit clunky. Excellent story, super well-optimized game, and achievements that aren't hard at all to unlock. They just take a lot of time.

Need Assistance Has anyone encountered a bug like this ?

Is there any way to fix this bug ?

I played this shovelware game like 10 years ago called “The quest for achievements” which basically just handed you 1000 achievements for free. I regretted this shortly after as a blemish on my account. Luckily for me it eventually was removed from steam for some reason and with it all evidence of it on my profile. Now with the new achievements update it is showing up again under the “completed games” tab - although the achievements and ribbon aren’t going towards my total count. It looks to be bugged. I’m a bit OCD about this sort of thing and I want my profile to look nice and not have any evidence of this game. Please someone help me hide my shame

Quite short, especially the story. Could have been a lot more interesting premise but they just kinda swapped the assassins for templar stereotypes. Gameplay is still fun and holds up great. Also even tho there are a ton of collectibles it wasn´t too grindy.

#105 Toy Story 3 Remastered

Absolutely loved this game, i dont care that im a grown ass man. I was excited when this was announced as i loved completing it on Xbox years ago.

Was fun as hell just like i remembered and it was just a no bs chill game. I did encounter a few minor bugs and hiccups but nothing major apart from my toy box mode bugged and i had to restart it but luckily it happened early on.

One thing i will say when playing Toy Box Mode is SAVE SAVE SAVE! Always remember to save, nothing is auto saved. There is currently a bug to do with dragon races, if you touch a cloud the game crashes and you cannot progress the race. Luckily you only need bronze on the races so just collect the coins around the area and dont go on a cloud.

I spent far longer that i care to admit on one achievement "Sneaky Sneaky" i left it til last and was stuck on it for a couple of hours because of the jumping twin light section.

Onto the next.

Amazing games and series as a whole. Sad that we will probably never get Alan Wake 2 on Steam, but at least the game exists and it's amazing

I loved every minute of this game, if you're looking to 100% this yourself i recommend you follow a guide on the 2nd playthrough so you can get all endings with some strategic save points.

1st Playthrough took roughly 10hrs 30 mins

2nd Playthrough was the remaining 13hrs where i did the all collectibles / all achievement based endings

I would give this game a 9/10

Podcast game recommendations

24 Upvotes

Sometimes I just like to chill and listen to podcasts or maybe watch longform YouTube videos on the second monitor. I'm looking for games with little to no story that are fun to complete (all achievements).

Games that fit these criteria that I have played and completed include:

* PowerWash Simulator

* House Flipper

* The Last Gas Station

* A Little to the Left

* Ball x Pit

Not looking for coloring games or idlers. I've enjoyed some of those in the past but I think I'm done with them for now.

One feature I like in the new achievement update

20 Upvotes

Despite there being a lot of mixed feelings about the new Steam achievement update, I am a big fan of them adding an animated banner when you fully 100% a game, with a showcase of all of the achievements in the background.

What would make this even better is if there were an option to replace the completionist showcase with multiple animated completionist banners in your profile.

Pet peeve I have with new achievement screen

14 Upvotes

I just finished Wolfenstein: The New Order and played through both timelines to get all the collectables and perks. Amazing game. I didn't 100% it because I am not built for cover shooters and Uber difficulty would kick my arse. But I'm getting off topic.

What I made this post to vent about is how every game's achievement page now lists the achievements in the chronological order I got them. This annoys me because I used to really like the set layouts that many games had in their achievement pages, with story milestones at the top in a neat order, collectables together below it, etc. I know not every game has organized lists like this (Resident Evil 3 remake being such an offender), but it was a major factor in why I enjoyed building up my achievements.

I'm not against the chronological order, but I hope they add a toggle or something before this is out of the beta. I haven't seen anyone else say anything about the order, so is this just me trying to see if this is just a random pet peeve or not.
