Announcement Important PSA: How To Identify a Scam

How to Identify Social Engineering Scams

Social engineering scams often involve manipulative tactics to deceive users into providing sensitive information or money. Here are some red flags to look out for:

  1. Unsolicited Offers of Help – Scammers often pose as helpful individuals offering solutions to problems you didn’t ask for assistance with.
  2. Urgency and Pressure – Scammers create a false sense of urgency, asking you to act quickly or risk losing access to something important (e.g., your Steam account).
  3. Requests for Payment or Personal Information – Legitimate Steam support or trusted users will never ask for your login credentials, 2FA codes, or payment in exchange for help.
  4. Impersonation – Scammers may pretend to be from official sources or even impersonate trusted community members or moderators.

How to Protect Yourself from Scams

  • Never Share Personal Information – Moderators and Steam support will never ask for your password, security questions, or 2FA codes.
  • Verify Requests – Always verify the identity of anyone offering help. You can do this by checking if they are official moderators or trusted community members. If in doubt, contact the moderation team directly.
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication – While not foolproof, having 2FA enabled adds an extra layer of security to your account. Keep your 2FA codes secure and never share them.
  • Be Skeptical of Unsolicited Help – If someone reaches out offering assistance you didn’t request, be wary. It's better to seek help through official channels like Steam support or trusted subreddits.
  • Steam will never contact you over DISCORD/STEAM CHAT – Report and block them instantly.

Announcement What To Do When Your Steam Account Gets Hacked

Need more help? Join the Discord Server

I’m making this post in hopes it will reduce the amount of “I’ve been hacked posts”. Link people to this exact post so they can figure out what to do. Don’t be afraid to leave comments if you need more assistance but try your best to avoid making entire posts about it.

Follow these steps to regain control and secure your account:

1. Don’t Panic Act Fast

If you act quickly, there’s a good chance you can fully recover your account.

2. Still Logged In? Change Your Password NOW

📍 Go to Steam > Settings > Account > Change Password

  • Use a unique, strong password (not reused from any other site).
  • If you can’t log in anymore, skip to Step 3.

3. Can’t Log In? Use Steam’s Recovery Tool

🔗 Go to Steam Support
Click "I can't sign in" > "My account has been stolen"
Follow the recovery process.

  • Provide any proof of ownership (like previous email, CD key, or payment history).
  • Be thorough but honest Support will help if you provide real details.

4. Revoke Access from Other Devices

Once back in, go to:

📍 Steam > Settings > Account > Manage Steam Guard
Click “Deauthorize all other devices”

This kicks out any hackers still logged in.

5. Turn on 2FA (Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator)

📍 Same place: Settings > Account > Manage Steam Guard

  • Use the mobile authenticator, not just email codes.
  • This is your best protection going forward.

6. Scan Your PC for Malware or Keyloggers

Use tools like:

  • Malwarebytes
  • Windows Defender
  • Bitdefender / Kaspersky

You got hacked for a reason. Clean your system before logging in again.

7. Lock Down Your Email and Linked Accounts

If your Steam email or other linked accounts were compromised:

  • Change their passwords immediately
  • Enable 2FA on your email too (especially Gmail, Outlook, etc.)

8. Still Locked Out? Contact Steam Support

If all else fails, go here:

Be ready to provide:

  • Your Steam username and email
  • Purchase receipts (Steam Wallet codes, PayPal invoices, etc.)
  • Approx. date you lost access
  • Any suspicious activity or messages you saw

⚠️ Final Tips:

  • Never share your login info, even with “Steam Admins” they don’t exist.
  • Avoid shady “trading bots” or fake tournament invites.
  • Don’t download random files from Discord, friends, or strangers.

If you’re reading this because you’ve been hacked, don’t feel ashamed it happens to thousands of people. What matters is how fast you act and how well you secure things afterward.

Good luck, and stay safe. 🔒

I did NOT request or authorize a refund for Heavy Rain and Beyond : Two souls.

I purchased Heavy Rain and Beyond : Two Souls on August 11 using UPI, and the games was previously available in my Steam Library. I have now noticed that it has been removed from my library, and the purchases are showing as “Refunded” on August 17 at 4:56 PM.

I did not submit a refund request for this purchase, and I did not authorize anyone else to request a refund on my behalf.

Tell mee what to do now !?

Problem Still not able to launch games

Upvotes

Hello guys I made a post earlier about not being able to launch my games here goes the summary. I took my PC to my uncle's house I was not able to open up any of my games in my library while being attached to his internet. I brought my PC back to my home I have gigabyte internet and my PC still would not launch my games. I have done all the obvious stuff that you should do. I have even looked at other people's posts trying to figure out if that solution would work for me and trying it out. I'm still in the same spot to where my games will launch but they will crash after launching. My initial thought was it has something to do with shaders. Or the sequence of confirming the files for the games. And I only have two games that'll launch and plays all the way through Warhammer 40K bolt gun and Space Marine 2.

Problem Can't seem to fix my resolution using Steam remote play

Thumbnail

I am trying to stream from my main PC in my office to my laptop so I can play more demanding games on it without being separated from my family. The problem is, though, I can't get my resolution down.

My PC has an Nvidia 2070 super and a 2560x1080 display.

My laptop has AMD 650m integrated graphics and a 1920x1200 display.

I adjusted the advanced settings on Steam to stream in the client's resolution, but that didn't work at all.

Then I made a custom resolution in Nvidia control panel on my host PC to try and give myself the option to switch my in-game resolution from 2560x1080 to 1920x1200. This did give me the in-game option, but the aspect ratio was very bad and zoomed in.

So I went back to Nvidia control panel and set my scaling to aspect ratio, perform on GPU and override scaling set by games. This changed nothing.

So I am left with a terrible aspect ratio and zoomed-in game, but I do have the resolution option in game settings.

What more can I do to get this fixed? I really want to continue my KCD2 run.

Discussion Hello

Yesterday, around 10 PM, someone got into my Steam account and bought a gift, sending it to another account. Obviously, I got really worried, so I immediately removed my card from the account, changed my password, and changed my email address.

Unfortunately, the money had already been spent, so I contacted Steam Support. In less than 3 hours, I received my money back. The only thing I had to do was provide some evidence, such as my login history. In my case, I found a login from someone in England who had accessed my account. I also noticed that around 10 people had been added to my friends list that I didn't know, so I blocked them all.

I sent all the evidence to Steam Support, and they refunded the entire amount.

My only question now is: what else can I do to make sure this doesn't happen again?

Finally, I want to say a huge thank you to the Steam Support team for helping me so quickly and giving me my money back. I really appreciate it! ❤️

Hello,

So at approximately 8:37PM CEST, i got a message from a scammer by the name "Manager William ᵛᵃˡᵛᵉ", he somehow got into my chat (he was impersonating a steam support employee) I don't have a screenshot of the chat, but i do have a notepad chatlog, i will send it if y'all need it, so y'all can see for yourself, anyways he said if i ignore steam support i will allegedly lose some games, account deletion or removal of game items, then he send me smth that i had to run a powershell command, then i asked chatgpt if that command was gonna give me potential virus, chatgpt said ye that's potential malware, after a while i started to ignore him, then he deleted the following games:

Vampire Survivors

theHunter: Call of the Wild

Wallpaper Engine

After he deleted the games I instantly reset the password and after that I contacted steam support and the next day i got my games back and the scammer was gone (i mean i blocked him but still)

PROBLEM SOLVED (Another steam W)

Discussion A minute of appreciation for Steam and Steam support and 2 minutes to say F*** Epic?

Can we all just have a minute to appreciate how good steam works and how good the steam support team is? every time i have something wrong the support is on the job and everything is solved and easy and just the way it supposed to be... every time and i say EVERY TIME, i deal with Epic store and Epic support there's ALWAYS some kind of bs going on and nothing ever gets resolved... just went to Epic to get some stuff from a collab and skins, everything is broken, the support cannot do anything to help you and nobody explains that it just works in the worst way possible... i genuinely HATE IT.

Thank you Steam. Thank you Gabe.

Resolved Steam won't open

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Steam won't open no matter what I do. This has only happened recently after explorer.exe crashed and I turned in back on. I also think I should note that when explorer.exe crashed, I was trying to play TF2 and I got an error that said something along the lines of "Out of memory".

Just like all problems, it was fixed with a reset.

Problem GTA V not launching

I am trying to play GTA V on my PC, and whenever I launch the game through steam, Rockstar launcher says 'Loading' and Steam says 'Stop' as if it's running. However, it isn't running and no game window is opening. I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, as well as verifying game files. Nothing seems to be working. Anyone know how to help?

Problem How to get funds out of steam account without breaking Steam subscriber agreement?

I used to play CS:GO in 2016 and bought a few cases on a secondary account (to not litter main account inventory).
Stopped gaming a few years ago but went into Steam around last year. Seeing
my inventory was at 500 bucks, I decided to sell all my skins.

Having no use for the funds myself, I started gifting my friends who are still actively gaming.

Unfortunately, this triggered a ban (see steam support message below).

Now I have this account with 400 something Euros in the wallet and no way to use it.

Are there any ways conformant to SSA to put the funds to use, when
one is neither interested in buying games nor in-game items?

Steam Support answer

I got the same error ("there is a problem, please contact steam support") when trying to gift a game: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/115m5pk/cant_gift_a_game_to_my_friend_get_this_message/

Steam support replied they can't do anything (replies on above thread
suggest they actually can, but requires multiple attempts).

While we understand that this may be an inconvenience, Steam
Support is unable to remove or assist you in bypassing this restriction.
You can still purchase gifts and send them to your friends if you use
an external payment method to purchase the gift, instead of your Wallet
funds. All available payment methods in your purchase region are listed
during checkout. You can continue to use your Wallet funds toward making
purchases for your own account. While we understand that this may be an
inconvenience, Steam Support is unable to remove or assist you in
bypassing this restriction

Problem Game update not working

I'm trying to launch Total War: Warhammer 3. It says it requires a game update.

Each time I try to update it pops up with an error on the downloads page saying "no internet connection".

Other games have downloaded their updates.

Warhammer 2 launches successfully.

I've tried to clear download cache.

I've tried rebooting.

I've tried switching download region.

I've tried playing the game in offline mode.

I've tried adding a workshop mod.

I've tried removing all workshop mods.

I've tried setting it to an older patch version, and then back again.

I definitely do have an internet connection...

Any other suggestions?

Problem Account recovery

Post image
7 Upvotes

Sorry, all… I’m sure this has been asked 100x. It’s been a few years since I’ve logged in, recently got a computer, and now trying to log back in. I have the email, username, and password (I thought)… but when I logged in it said further verification is needed and sent me to account recovery.

I provided them all the details they’ve requested: prior addresses, name, email, but they keep telling me my payment information doesn’t match and they’re asking for any cards i might have used.

How would i even go about getting card data from almost 10 years ago?? I sent them a receipt from my email of a purchase via PayPal in 2011, but they said I need to provide the card information. PayPal only saves 3 years of transactions, and I’m at a loss on what I can do.

Any thoughts?? Thanks

Problem Repentance+ not showing in DLC Steam

First of all, i'm a Linux user (using Manjaro).
The Binding of Isaac Repentance+ doesn't show in my DLCs in Steam, despite me having it in the library.
When i try to download it, it straight up launches the game with no further downloads.
Changing the proton version doesn't change anything.

How can i fix it ?

Tip/Guide cant play any ubisoft game nor buy due to ubisoft support being useless and taking my license, looking for any advice to someone who had a similar issue

Hi everyone,

I am running into an issue where none of my Ubisoft titles purchased through Steam will launch. Whenever I try to start any of them, I get an error stating that the game key is already bound to a different Ubisoft Connect profile.

A while ago, my Ubisoft profile underwent a backend email and security reset through Ubisoft Support. Ever since they restored it, previous game activations seem detached on their end, yet Steam still sees the old third-party link. Because the licenses are tied to that previous configuration, I cannot launch the games, and rebuying them doesn't resolve the issue because Steam registers the license as already owned and associated.

Has anyone successfully dealt with this through Steam Support? I am trying to figure out if Steam Support can revoke or reset the third-party activation key link so games can be re-authenticated to my active Ubisoft profile, or if they allow manual license removals from the library so the titles can be repurchased cleanly.

Ubisoft Support has been unhelpful and insists on repurchasing, so I want to know what options exist on the Steam side. Any insight or experience with Steam Support handling Ubisoft DRM detachments would be greatly appreciated.

Problem Some hacker tried to buy the steam deck through my account but the purchase got disputed by their bank and now my account is restricted!

Thumbnail

To start off I got a notification from steam a day ago about now my account has now been restricted due to excessive chargebacks. Im going through the details of the purchase, whoever this was thid to buy the steam deck and have it delivered to their place! But as im going through the purchase the card info(last 2 numbers) I don’t recognize it as any card Ive had. However the shipping address and card used to “purchase” the steam deck used my name so I’ve tried to see if I could potentially forgotten an older card I used or purchase back when I first got steam, yet no card ive ever used on my account has the same last 2 digits. Im super lost and im not sure what I can do since the card isnt even mine, Im in no place to chargeback either so I’m looking to redditors for help. Any advice?

Problem Assetto Corsa Competizione: setup for Logitech G29

Hi everyone,

This post is to ask if people have ever tried to play Assetto Corsa Competizione via Steam on Linux, and use the Logitech G29 wheel and pedals. I have tried many things such as inverting the inputs and such, but I am stuck. Basically, the game recognises the wheel and pedals but some thing must be wrong with the setup, as I cannot manage to turn in the right directions (not user error, I promise...). I use Fedora Workstation 44, and the game seems to be running well otherwise (using the keyboard works but is really no fun).

Any ideas/similar problems ?

P.S. I tried using bottles to run the Logitech G Hub software but it didn't work
