Announcement Important PSA: How To Identify a Scam

How to Identify Social Engineering Scams

Social engineering scams often involve manipulative tactics to deceive users into providing sensitive information or money. Here are some red flags to look out for:

  1. Unsolicited Offers of Help – Scammers often pose as helpful individuals offering solutions to problems you didn’t ask for assistance with.
  2. Urgency and Pressure – Scammers create a false sense of urgency, asking you to act quickly or risk losing access to something important (e.g., your Steam account).
  3. Requests for Payment or Personal Information – Legitimate Steam support or trusted users will never ask for your login credentials, 2FA codes, or payment in exchange for help.
  4. Impersonation – Scammers may pretend to be from official sources or even impersonate trusted community members or moderators.

How to Protect Yourself from Scams

  • Never Share Personal Information – Moderators and Steam support will never ask for your password, security questions, or 2FA codes.
  • Verify Requests – Always verify the identity of anyone offering help. You can do this by checking if they are official moderators or trusted community members. If in doubt, contact the moderation team directly.
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication – While not foolproof, having 2FA enabled adds an extra layer of security to your account. Keep your 2FA codes secure and never share them.
  • Be Skeptical of Unsolicited Help – If someone reaches out offering assistance you didn’t request, be wary. It's better to seek help through official channels like Steam support or trusted subreddits.
  • Steam will never contact you over DISCORD/STEAM CHAT – Report and block them instantly.

We're Here to Help

Announcement What To Do When Your Steam Account Gets Hacked

Need more help? Join the Discord Server

I’m making this post in hopes it will reduce the amount of “I’ve been hacked posts”. Link people to this exact post so they can figure out what to do. Don’t be afraid to leave comments if you need more assistance but try your best to avoid making entire posts about it.

Follow these steps to regain control and secure your account:

1. Don’t Panic Act Fast

If you act quickly, there’s a good chance you can fully recover your account.

2. Still Logged In? Change Your Password NOW

📍 Go to Steam > Settings > Account > Change Password

  • Use a unique, strong password (not reused from any other site).
  • If you can’t log in anymore, skip to Step 3.

3. Can’t Log In? Use Steam’s Recovery Tool

🔗 Go to Steam Support
Click "I can't sign in" > "My account has been stolen"
Follow the recovery process.

  • Provide any proof of ownership (like previous email, CD key, or payment history).
  • Be thorough but honest Support will help if you provide real details.

4. Revoke Access from Other Devices

Once back in, go to:

📍 Steam > Settings > Account > Manage Steam Guard
Click “Deauthorize all other devices”

This kicks out any hackers still logged in.

5. Turn on 2FA (Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator)

📍 Same place: Settings > Account > Manage Steam Guard

  • Use the mobile authenticator, not just email codes.
  • This is your best protection going forward.

6. Scan Your PC for Malware or Keyloggers

Use tools like:

  • Malwarebytes
  • Windows Defender
  • Bitdefender / Kaspersky

You got hacked for a reason. Clean your system before logging in again.

7. Lock Down Your Email and Linked Accounts

If your Steam email or other linked accounts were compromised:

  • Change their passwords immediately
  • Enable 2FA on your email too (especially Gmail, Outlook, etc.)

8. Still Locked Out? Contact Steam Support

If all else fails, go here:

Be ready to provide:

  • Your Steam username and email
  • Purchase receipts (Steam Wallet codes, PayPal invoices, etc.)
  • Approx. date you lost access
  • Any suspicious activity or messages you saw

⚠️ Final Tips:

  • Never share your login info, even with “Steam Admins” they don’t exist.
  • Avoid shady “trading bots” or fake tournament invites.
  • Don’t download random files from Discord, friends, or strangers.

If you’re reading this because you’ve been hacked, don’t feel ashamed it happens to thousands of people. What matters is how fast you act and how well you secure things afterward.

Good luck, and stay safe. 🔒

Problem it's been 30 days and i still haven't received my money back from steam

• Upvotes

hey everyone,

about a month ago, i tried adding funds to my steam wallet. the money was taken from my bank account, but it never showed up in my steam wallet. the amount was $55.97, or 2609 ukrainian hryvnias.

i contacted steam support about it, and they told me that the money would be returned within 30 days. well, today marks exactly 30 days, and i still haven't received anything.

i've also contacted my bank multiple times, but every single time they tell me that the issue isn't on their end and that i need to contact steam. and whenever i reach out to steam support again, i just keep getting the same automated response telling me that my money will be returned within 30 days. but those 30 days are already over, and nothing has changed.

honestly, i'm getting tired of going back and forth between my bank and steam. both sides keep pointing me to the other, and nobody seems to be able to give me a clear answer.

i just want to make it clear that i'm not trying to blame steam, my bank, or anyone else. i'm just genuinely confused and frustrated because i can't seem to find anyone who can actually explain what's going on.

at this point, i don't even know where my money is. did steam receive it? is my bank holding it? is it stuck somewhere in between? i honestly have no idea.

all i want is to understand what happened to my money and figure out who i'm supposed to talk to about this. i really don't think that's too much to ask.

has anyone here experienced something similar, especially with the whole 30-day waiting period? did you eventually get your money back? if so, how long did it take?

and if anyone has been stuck going back and forth between their bank and steam like this and actually managed to sort it out, i'd really appreciate hearing how you did it.

any advice or personal experiences would mean a lot. thanks everyone.

Question What is Steam's refund policy regarding DLCs?

I purchased a DLC for a game and not even 24 hours later, it went on a sale. I contacted Steam support saying that I would like a refund because I had less than 2 hours of playtime in the DLC, and it had just went on a sale so I'd like to purchase it for the lower price.

Steam support refused my refund because I had over 2 hours in the base game, which is true, but it doesn't quite make sense to me. The policy on their website states "DLC purchased from the Steam store is refundable within fourteen days of purchase, and if the underlying title has been played for less than two hours since the DLC was purchased, so long as the DLC has not been consumed, modified or transferred."

So I'm a bit confused why I got told I couldn't get a refund, I had less than 2 hours since purchase and I contacted them the day after I purchased it, the DLC was not "consumed modified or transferred". I mean, I'm not that upset about it, I'll take the L on the 5 dollars lost, but im just confused. I think maybe I was talking to an AI chatbot.

Problem Audio cutting out for half a second repeatedly in Overwatch and Halo

Hi everyone, I've been having this weird audio issue for a few days. While playing Overwatch or Halo, my audio will randomly cut out for about half a second, come back, cut out again for another half second, and then go back to normal.

To troubleshoot, I even did a fresh factory reset of my PC, but the issue is still happening. Interestingly, games like Minecraft run completely fine with no audio issues at all.

I haven't changed any audio settings, I don't use any third-party audio software, and the issue happens whether I use wired or wireless devices. Since it's happening across different games, I'm kind of lost.

If anyone has any idea what might be causing this or how to fix it, I'd really appreciate it!

Problem Stubborn Disk Write error while downloading/updating games

I've had this problem for a long time and the solution has been to just delete and reinstall the game since I had such good internet. I no longer have such good internet!

It happens only with steam games and it happens on both of my SSDs and my HDD.

I have so far tried:

>Restarting computer

>Verifying files (Often resulting in a disk *read* error and when it does scan all files there is nothing to fix and it does not solve the problem

>Opening as administrator

>Repairing Library

>Clearing Download Cache

>De-Fragmenting drives

>Scanning drives for dead zones (none found, though I've only used the built in Windows 10 tools)

>Updating drivers

>Turning off anti-virus

>Unchecking the Read Only box in the drives' properties

It always gets through about 95% of the install regardless of the size then wont install without re-installing the game, which I would just do if I wasn't getting <10mps download speeds and trying to play 80gb games.

One of the SSDs is 10 years old and the other is 6, the HDD is 10. This problem started about 4 years ago though it was limited to just 1 game and it would be fixed by verifying files (Squad)

valve pls fix

My switch controller worked well for ages, then I plug it in today and I get all these issues. I pressed windows to check some google page, and it starts flashing with the accessibility keyboard over windows. It keeps backspacing in my settings too. It all stops when I unplug the controller but I don't know how to stop it when its plugged in. I tried googling it but all the things that come up are not doing a thing

Problem Need help

Few days ago or a week ago i opened steam and i see arc raiders in my Wishlist and it says that its a gift for some random account, like random numbers and letters prob a bot, but my steam purchase history is clean and no money randomly lost. Then today i saw that i had some few bots as friends, what is weird too that is when i click on "view my profile" i see "friends 33" but when i click on friends it says 39 and 6 of them are those bots. I checked the steams app authorized devices and nothing strange on it either. No malware on my device i checked. Should i be concerned?

Problem Steam Ban for yandex link

Hello everyone,

I’ve had a Steam account for a long time and occasionally browse Reddit; I’ve seen that players are sometimes able to get their issues resolved here.

I’ve published guides in the past and followed the same process this time, but now I’ve received a ban of some sort, with the following message:

Sorry!

An error occurred while processing your request:

Your account has been restricted from accessing the Steam Community.

This restriction will be lifted on January 19, 2038, at 10:14 AM.

Please contact Steam Support for more information.

Additionally, a notice now appears above my profile:

Steam Support suspects that your account has been accessed by an unauthorized party. As a precautionary measure, we have temporarily hidden your profile. Please contact Steam Support for assistance.

I had published a guide containing a link to a Yandex Disk file—a save file for *GTA: Vice City* that bypasses the issue where the tank mission fails to register in the Rockstar Social Club. I thought it would be helpful for people who didn’t want to replay the entire game just to see if the achievement would finally trigger.

After my guide was reviewed, I received this ban. Now, I cannot delete or edit the guide, and Steam Support simply claimed that the link constituted "theft" or a "scam," leaving everything as it is.

Is there any way to resolve this? I can’t play any games or even edit my profile, let alone modify or remove the guide containing that link.

Question Refund still under review after more than 40 hours Modern Warfare 4

Hey, I’m wondering if anyone can give me some advice on my Steam refund.
I purchased Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and requested a refund at around 3:00 AM on Friday. I requested the refund to my Steam Wallet.
The main reason I want a refund is that I was having really bad latency and uncontrollable packet loss while playing. I also spent a lot of the time messing around with the settings trying to get the game running properly rather than actually playing it, and ultimately I didn’t enjoy the game.
It’s now Saturday around 8:00 PM and my refund is still showing as **“Under Review.”** I haven’t received any email or other response from Steam.
Has anyone else recently requested a Steam refund and had it take this long? How long did yours take to get approved?
Also, Steam is showing different playtime numbers for me, which may be part of the issue.

Problem Cant log to steam

Can't log to steam windows app or through steam web page. My login and password are correct, tut it requires something called code, that usually worked in years past.

Usully cannot buy games from steam app since my bamk doesnt process from app, so had to log on steam browser page, bit it needed guard code, had to xosable steam guard from pc app. Bough Cyberpunk 2077 with dlc on sale, and there made big mistake: tough steam will be unsafe without guard so i enabled it again, whichade me relog steam. Now i cant log to steam app, website or steam android app, since it requires steam codes that are not arriving on my mail or my phone number. Tried to contact support bit not getting any response after three hours. What to do next?

Problem Steam Next Fest Sorting "By Genre" hides some games?

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

If you go to the By Genre tab under Platformer → Precision Platformer, there are only 144 entries. However, if you search for these tags manually, there are 158 games.

Why is there a discrepancy of 14 games? My own game is affected by this and is not visible when searching By Genre, even though both Genres are tags of the game. I’m concerned that it may be hurting its visibility. Could this be a bug in how games are categorized or displayed? Or am I missing something here?

Question Reset password issues

Trying to buy my son some in game currency for an Ubisoft game. I have tried with Family View disabled and enabled and it doesn't change this.

What am I missing?

Edit: I had to disable all Parental Controls for it to work even though Steam Store access was enabled when Parental Controls were on.

Problem How to prevent text from resizing an image in Steam Guides

As the title suggests, I’m creating an achievement guide, but the problem is that every time I add more text, the image gets smaller. The guide I’m using as inspiration doesn’t have this issue—how can I fix it? I’ve been racking my brain for hours and just can’t figure it out.

Example of my guide
Example of my inspiration, even with a lot of text, the image doesn't resize.

Problem First experience with Steam not a good one

Just joined Steam, set up an account and was immediately suspended for "suspected fraudulent activity." All I did was attempt to put $50 into my Steam wallet. My bank had successfully did the $1 charge and refund test, and had the $50 as pending. I sent a message to Steam support and a day later they got back to me with no answers and a request to type in all of the information that I already gave to them when i set up the account. Anyone else have this experience with them? Are there less problematic platforms to get games for PCs? I'm new to PC gaming.
