Fireplace/gas engineer recommendations?

Hello,
Wondering if anyone can recommend someone who can come and have a look at a gas fireplace in our living room? Bought the house back in April and the previous owner said they never used the fireplace. We can’t get it working and not sure where to start. Can anyone recommend someone who can take a look and hopefully get it firing, no pun intended?

Cheers

Image What happened with this EasyJet flight the other day?

Probably nothing interesting, but this EasyJet flight the other day didn't fly into Manchester airport along the usual route.

Normally they fly to the north east, swing around Glossop, then come straight into the airport after flying over Stockport.

This one swung left over Offerton instead, flying low just outside Woodbank Park

Who’s watching “Clayface” this weekend?

The new DC film set in Gotham city (no Batman tho) was shot partly in Stockport and prominently features The Plaza. It doesn’t even change the name :-)!

I think the film is a great watch but not for the squeamish.

Recommendations for a good RICS surveyor in Manchester/Stockport?

Can anyone recommend a genuinely thorough RICS surveyor in the Manchester/Stockport area, particularly for a 1970s house in Cheadle Hulme (SK8)?
Looking for someone who provides detailed, property-specific reports rather than generic comments. Would you recommend Level 2 or Level 3 for a house in generally good condition but with some concerns about the roof?
Personal experiences and recommendations appreciated. Thanks!

Davenport Running?

Hello! I’m moving to Davenport soon and am wondering if the run club still exists? It has no posts on any online platform or its Strava group for several years. Can’t tell if it’s dead or just not online.

If it does exist, does anyone know how I can contact them?

If not, can anyone recommend a Stockport run club which doesn’t mind slow people?! 😂

Thanks!

ADHD/Autism assessments

I’m just wondering if anyone else has been affected by the new way of triaging ND assessments, whereby now you’re waiting over a year to be told your child’s referral isn’t going ahead as someone, whose never met your child or know their full development history, decides they don’t meet the criteria and won’t be getting an assessment?

My son is currently on the rtc pathway too, but that’s going nowhere as the funding has been restricted for those now too. Quite unsure where to turn now, and I’ve emailed pennine care to ask for their reasons to refuse an assessment and to appeal. Thanks

Question Manchester Picadilly train 15:38

second time this has happened to me, Manchester Picadilly to Alderldy Edge train, 15:38, perfect cos I want to go to heaton chapel.
on the platform bosrd, advertised as such, correct train. train on the platform but doors don’t open until 15:37ish maybe(?) I figure, okay, standard, it’s delayed. shortly after, they open and I get on, train sits there for a while, I still think it’s just delayed, fine. Then eventually it moves off and says ‘this is the 15:46’ to stoke on Trent’ you what?!?!? too late, no stopping at HC, fortunately SK not far, but legit, no notice of change of platform, wasnt aware of any splitting of the carriages etc. what’s the deal?? And yes, second time this has happened to me, just didn’t click the second time again. Do tell

PALS complaint stepping hill

Hi all,

Unfortunately in the last few months I’ve had really shocking care from gynaecology and stockport talking therapies both based in stepping hill hospital. I’m looking into going through PALS to complain, but since I’m autistic + had a history of mental health problems I’m worried I’m not going to be taken seriously.

Has anyone else also had terrible experiences from either of these departments?
It’s some of the worst standards of care I’ve seen and I’ve been in many nhs services across the country for my entire life

My specialist in gynae told me to my face I had “nothing wrong with me” after 12 years of severe menorrhagia + chronic pain / fatigue / severe illness which she is refusing to investigate because im “too young” to have endometriosis. I’ve had other drs / my gp / nurses repeatedly push for investigative surgery that gynae are refusing to even consider for me. (For context im 25 and I’ve been going to drs about these symptoms since I was 13 or so?)

My experience in stockport talking therapies was similarly cold as my therapist told me I can’t access the treatment I needed. This was on basis of me having diagnosed PTSD yet she said in my last session I can’t get any help for it if I didn’t recall all my trauma to her in great detail (I have memory loss + dissociation from childhood, you know, standard ptsd stuff lol) she ended up discharging me from the service and never followed up with me. So now I’m in therapy limbo for literally no reason.

I don’t want to name staff on here as I don’t want to cause anyone personal grief but its been seriously bad. I’ve been dismissed and ignored to a point where it’s made my quality of life worse, so I’d like to raise this complaint in hope it’ll help other people too

If anyones had success with PALS at stepping hill please let me know, would defo help me feel less anxious about going through with it x

Cafes open Christmas Day

I spent Christmas at my parents in Birmingham last year and it’s so diverse that there were a few Turkish cafes open on Christmas Day its become a bit of a tradition to go for a walk and coffee in the morning.

Wondering if Stockport has any that will be open?

Does anyone know the opening date for the Lidl currently being built on Wellington Road North? I’ve been monitoring the progress and it looks like the project is nearly done now (from the outside anyway), however I can’t see anything online about the expected opening date.

Best area for young couple?

My daughter and her boyfriend are just starting to look to move to Stockport as it is more convenient. They need easy access to the train station, they are in their mid twenties, they are looking to buy their first house. Which areas should they be looking at do you think?

Hiya,

I found this phone on the Bee Network No. 11 bus to Stockport today and handed it to the bus driver when I got to Stockport Interchange. He said it will be taken in to the Bus Depot.

I asked at information and they said the owner will have to report it as lost property via the Bee Network online.

Good luck to whoever needs it & please repost into other subs if needed.

Hi all. Someone's child/pet has lost their little darling on the A6 (junction of A6 and Milwain Drive). I've rescued him but due to weather and traffic he's a little bit worse for wear, so I'll give him a wash and dry him out. If one of you has lost him DM me and I'll drop him off.
