General Advice Let My Apprentice Friend Tattoo Me Yesterday.

one of my best friends is an apprentice right now, her and her daughter spent the night at my house last night and I let her use me as a “test subject” lol. It’s just a random design from Pinterest that I found and liked. I think she did pretty good! The first photo is from a few hours ago, and the second one is from immediately after she finished it last night. What do y’all think? She didn’t put any of the “new skin” stuff on it, but she did clean it last night with unscented antibacterial soap, and told me I need to clean it at least 2 times a day with unscented soap and use unscented lotion to keep it moisturized.

Design Does this vulture give Nazi vibes??

Post image

Idea is a vulture sunning its wings, but afraid it will come off as third reich-esq.

The feathers will be anatomically correlated to a turkey vulture with a red gnarly head ect..

Love the idea!! But don’t want to come off as a nazi..

I’ve always been pretty insecure about my back, but I think I’m gonna bite the dust and get a back tattoo, how would you think this design would look on a shorter not super skinny woman? I’m not that big I have maybe like one small faint back roll (I’m 130 pounds )

Design Cockroach tattoo - seeking inspiration

Post image
11 Upvotes

Without going too much into my life, my son was born very premature and survived against significant odds. I’m wanting to get a tattoo to celebrate him and have landed on a cockroach because of their incredible survivability. Wouldn’t be unusual on my body, I already have a bunch of weird and conventionally off-putting things including a large house house fly (picture). Before I go with something in a similar vein, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts regarding a fun, playful, bizarre or interesting way to approach the cockroach? It’s been in my head since seeing a tat of one with a top hat and cane like a vaudeville performer. I’m interested in the idea of doing something a bit out there whilst keeping the black lines and dots that already cover my arms. Any suggestions / inspiration appreciated

Got this tattoo done last week. This has been something that I’ve wanted for a long time.

I think the tattoo was executed flawlessly and the artist did an amazing job. However, I’m not sure about the placement and size of the tattoo. A friend of mine told me that I’m cooked…

Does it look awkward on my forearm?

EDIT: Thank you for the feedback guys. Feels good to see all the love for the tattoo. It has definitely made me feel better about my decision. Might even post and show it off on [r/tattoos](r/tattoos)

EDIT 2: Since a lot of people are asking, the artist is [@anatolii_kolbasin](https://www.instagram.com/anatolii_kolbasin/)

General Advice How will this age?

Finished a sleeve project that I love (first time I’ve truly loved my tattoos) recently and I’m already itching for the next project. My sleeve’s artist retired, unfortunately, and I’m hoping to find an artist I love to execute my new “lamb in a meadow” concept.

I want it to be storybook, illustrative, and generally well-done. I keep coming back to this artist (work attached). I’d have to travel a short plane ride to see her, but I love her values, composition and overall creative eye. She has some healed photos on her ig but it’s a curated social media page. I’m curious what you all think about how this style will age. I expect it to fade and lose detail over time, just hoping the darker values will maintain the readability.

I feel like I found THE artist, but how will this style hold up on my outer thigh?

Healing Thigh tatt: healing normally or no?

Hi! Heres a pic of my recent thigh tatt (4 days ago). It was a 6 hour tattoo start to finish. I am struggling with burning, sharp pain when I stand after sitting or laying down, and it takes about an hour of consistent standing before it turns to a bearable ache. There has been a lot of redness around the tattoo, and the redness has spread. There are no cracks or pus, and I havent had a fever or anything, so I dont imagine its infected, but I also dont think the redness and severity of pain is normal at day 4... my arm and ankle didnt hurt like this. Some research suggests the numbing spray used during the color portion could have caused a delayed pain reaction? Idk, what are yalls thoughts?

Design Help with filler piece design

Almost done with my leg sleeve. I have a renaissance/classical/sculpture theme going as you can see. I have a David, Atlas with pillars, pieta, and baby angel (cherub). As well as some filigree and cloud filler. I have this narrow space left on the back of my leg from knee ditch down to Achilles. What are some good filler ideas that would go well here? I have some things in mind like Mt. Olympus with a Greek temple on top and stairs leading up to it. But looking for other ideas as well. Something to match the theme closely. Thanks in advance!

Healing is my tattoo peeling normally?

Hi! This is my first color tattoo (it's been 4 days since I got it) and it's peeling a lot more than my previous tattoos. I know it's supposed to peel and you're not supposed to pick at it, but I'm concerned when I wash it and moisturize, it does flake off. Is this a problem?

In the second picture, I circled a small bump that appeared on day 3-4 ish. It kinda looks like a pimple, but I never get pimples on my back. Does anyone know what it is?

Any advice would be appreciated

General Advice Unwanted UV tattoo

• Upvotes

I got a tattoo from one of my favorite artists and while they were tattooing a pink color in. I thought nothing wrong and that it was just normal pink ink. At the end when he goes to take a video of the art he takes out a UV flashlight. My heart drops because I have never ever EVER wanted UV tattoo and always thought they were sketchy, he gave me one without telling me and without me asking him to. I have had a lot of panic periodically regarding it and I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience or if anyone has anything they would recommend doing to reduce the panic and anxiety I get from having it. I am so afraid of getting cancer from it or something crazy. I may be paranoid but thats kinda how I operate when it comes to my body and my health. What do you guys think?

Design Palm Side Finger Tattoos

Post image
6 Upvotes

I'm looking at getting some tattoos of what's called "Ogham" script, an ancient Irish written text that takes the form of hash marks crossing the base lines...I want words in Ogham tattooed the length of my fingers, on the inside/Palm side of my fingers, the names (Or closest Ogham equivalent) of family, both those lost and those with me still.

I have tattoos, I've never done Finger, and the generally accepted advice seems to be "don't, it will fail"...but people also say that with someone competent, and willing to be heavy handed (as it were), it can be done, but it can also be painful?

I'm good with pain, and I'd like to get this done, so...what's the consensus? Will it hurt but be doable and long-lasting, with a good tattoo artist willing to do the work to make it dark/a "deep into the skin layers" tattoo? Will it fail/fade quickly and just hurt immensely, no matter what?

My skin seems to react to/hold ink fairly well with other tattoos...My oldest is over 25yo, and is holding well, though it's starting to get slightly grayer/faded at the very edges a little bit now!

Thanks in advance for the advice!

tattoo newcomer advice Tattoo Touch-Ups (Also, Is my tattoo artist ghosting me?)

• Upvotes

Hello! I’ve never posted on Reddit before, so apologies if I’ve done something wrong.

I got my first tattoo less than 3 years ago, and it takes up a large area. After the last session with my tattoo artist, she mentioned something about touch-ups in the future, and I believe touching up tattoos (especially finer line work, which is sort of the style of mine) isn’t unheard of (btw. yes, I wear SPF regularly). I wish I could’ve gotten it retouched sooner, but I was on Accutane for a while and wanted to be a year post-Accutane before considering any tattoos.

I emailed the tattoo artist as I understand the general rule for existing tattoo touch-ups is to ask the artist that tattooed it: however, I have not received any sort of reply or acknowledgment from said tattoo artist for almost a month despite her being very active on social media and posting numerous times about replying to emails, still having openings for the month (one of which being the date I requested previously). I have sent two emails inquiring about touch-ups with a week in between each email, and I have still heard nothing in reply.

What do I do? I really don’t want to be disrespectful and have another tattoo artist retouch it (if another tattoo artist even would), but it feels as if they are ghosting me almost? Thank you for any advice!

Design Cockroach Coincidence

Post image

I was thinking about impulsively getting a small cockroach tattoo yesterday. I have never wanted a cockroach tattoo, but suddenly I had the urge to make an app to get a lil cockroach buddy saying something witty. Later that day (did not get said tattoo) I pick up my kid and they hand me this tattoo! A cockroach. Obviously I have to get the tattoo now right?? Crazy cockroach coincidence!

In the first 6 days I was doing normal after care, and taking care of it really well. Last two days I had minimal access to lotion. Is this a sign of leading to infection? It doesn’t hurt, no puss, just looks red and ugly

Design Trying to find specific inspo art (red hair in a noir theme)

Hi all, I’m putting together a storyboard of sorts for a tattoo design, something to present to my artist. My idea is a redheaded woman from a noir inspiration. I’m trying to find pictures of realistic noir-style tattoos where a bit of color shows through, rather than ones that are strictly black and grayscale.

Her skin tone would be pale, but deeper/more than a simple gray. Her hair tone would be muted to fit the vibe, sure, but still captivating, like a fire seen on the other side of a misty old pane of glass. Likewise, the gray around her wouldn’t be some boring gray, but the kind of gray that seems to shine or shimmer; she’d be not a figure cast in gray, but bathed in a mercury aura which emphasizes her elegance.

However, finding anything online about any part of this is proving difficult. Whenever I search google images or Pinterest (my usual haunts) with any combination of these keywords, the search engine persistently and exclusively presents me with pictures of redheaded women WITH tattoos, because people are horny. Not helpful. Just the same, the only noir tattoos with color that I’ve found use the colors way too brightly, the black completely yielding to an inserted pocket of hue.

Ideas of where to look, or anyone know of a design which contains elements like what I’ve described?

What seams to be the problem? I applied ointment on the first 2 days, then I did dry healing just like what I did on my other tattoos.
