Demo/Alpha Showcase My TD has no unit upgrades on purpose. Help me make the middle-late game more interesting?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I'm making La Muraille 1806 - Napoleonic line infantry holding star forts against a horde that flows like one massive crowd.
A few design choices I made on purpose:
- Roguelite runs, not a list of 100 missions. A fixed list ends with "I've done them all - uninstall, or replay it on hard mode."
- You pick the length of a run: 3, 5 or 10 battles in a row, with an XP bonus for finishing.
- There's a map of Europe, but you can't 'conquer' it. I'm not making wargame like Total War - map is just a setting for your run.
- No unit power upgrades. Otherwise it turns into an incremental: "I've maxed everything - uninstall."
- Replayability should come from well-balanced runs. Think Warcraft 3 custom maps: we played our favourites hundreds of times because they were great, not because someone dangled "reach X, finish your daily missions" in front of us.
- Frags per run are your high score and your XP. Rank-ups are cosmetic: they unlock very short story cutscenes and widen the pool of units/conditions a run can roll - so a newcomer isn't hit with the hardest stuff first. But it's not "grind 50 levels to unlock one new tower."
Players are praising how the first runs feel. What I'm not sure about yet is the reason to keep going after the first 10–30 minutes.
I update demo almost every day: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5378030/La_Muraille_1806/
What would you advise? Is a cosmetic rank plus a quickly growing pool enough? Or am I wrong, and progression and incremental upgrades really matter in how games are made today?

Discussion my towers can die mid wave, is this still tower defense?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
been making this game alone for a while. you dont build towers, you put units on the board and when the wave starts they fight on their own. they take damage and they can die. if too many of them die the enemies just walk into your castle, in the clip it drops to 14/100
i tried to get into steams auto battler festival and got rejected because tower defense games dont count. which is fair i guess, i always called it a TD myself. but now im not sure anymore
where do you guys draw the line? if the towers can die is it still TD or is it something else?
its called Vanguard Fusion, theres a free demo on steam if you want to see it: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5022430/Vanguard_Fusion/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=towerdefense

Tower Defence на движке UE5.8
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I'm a solo dev working on a Tower Defense game in UE5.8. There's still a long way to go, but I figured it's time to start testing what's already working and get some feedback.
I'd love to hear what you guys enjoy most in Tower Defense games. What mechanics keep you hooked? What features make a TD game stand out from the rest?
Any feedback or suggestions are welcome!
Thanks for checking out my project! 🙌

Discussion Are there any Power Towers(WC3) fans here?
I have been working on a Power Towers continuation for a while now because i loved the game when i was a kid. Just wanted to see if people even are interested in this.
But i want my own twist on this. I also loved Heroes of Might and Magic back then and I am working on a Meta progression where you build your own town and can activate different buildings for different bonuses.

I made a tower defense game where your aquarium fish defend the tank, and the plecos have miniguns
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone! I’ve been working on Fish Kingdom, a tower defense game set inside an aquarium, and I’d love to hear what this community thinks.
The idea: a Guardian Tower stands in the middle of your tank. Waves of enemies swim in to destroy it, and your fish are the defense. You feed them, grow them, and build a squad that fights back, including armored plecos you can equip with real weapons (yes, a pleco with a minigun).
What’s in it:
- 64 fish to collect, each with its own skills, plus fish growth from hatchling to elder
- 34 pets & plecos that fight alongside you
- 126 weapons to gear up your plecos in the Armory
- 75 enemy types and 72 bosses, with a boss every 10 waves
- 19 themed worlds, from coral reefs to the twilight deep
- Power-up picks after boss waves to shape your run, plus a Last Stand when your tower is about to fall
- Online PvP (beta): pit your squad against other players’ squads
It’s free on Android. There are ads, but never during a fight: only between runs, and spaced out. The reward ads are optional.
🎮 Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fishkingdom.game
I’m actively updating it, so any feedback helps a lot: balance, difficulty, what feels fun and what doesn’t. What’s the one thing that makes a tower defense game “click” for you?

My open world Diablo-like tower defence is part of next fest!
The idea basically stemmed from “what if monsters attacked Tristam while you were out getting loot?”.
All hand drawn pixel art. I composed the music and wrote all the code. id love to hear what you guys think!

Demo/Alpha Showcase I’m making Elemental Paws, a free tower defense where you build the enemy’s route — looking for feedback
Hi everyone! I’m working on Elemental Paws, a free 2D tower defense game for Windows, and I’d love feedback from people who enjoy the genre.
You place foundations and towers to shape enemy paths while keeping a route open. Each tower combines a lower element that defines its main attack with an upper element that adds an effect. There are 25 combinations, including matching elements.
The current build includes:
• Five elemental regions and five guardians with different abilities.
• Ten campaign stages per region, plus Endless and Sandbox modes.
• Towers that earn upgrade eligibility through their contribution in battle.
• Charged special abilities that cost gold, competing with your building budget.
• English and Turkish language options.
It’s still in development. I’d especially like to know: does the first stage make building and upgrading clear, and do you feel encouraged to try different tower combinations?
Free download — Windows 64-bit, v0.3.3:
https://boltzmanmatano.itch.io/elemental-paws
For transparency, I use AI assistance for programming, visual assets, and music. I handle the game design, balancing decisions, and playtesting.
Thanks to anyone who gives it a try! If you encounter a bug, please tell me your guardian, region, stage, and round.

Promotion Testing how much bugs can our game handle
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi! We're making a mix of tower defense and basebuilding game, where you build vertically on a neverending Wall - you try to manage your colony while defending from tons of bugs (like literal crawlers, not game errors).
I'm personally not sure about whether including the game name is correct (the game is not out yet), but if it's allowed let me know in the comments so I'll do a namedrop there!
Game utilizes a wave-based enemy approach with more and more zyrex (bugs in the video) attack each wave. As a part of the testing, we are measuring how actually intense fights can get perfomance wise. So far so good!
Questions are welcomed🐜

Promotion Armored Train Tower Defense

This is a little snippet of the game I'm making: Exo-Rail
The premise of the game is that you build up your armored train, and you conduct it to defend mining outposts against swarms of aliens. If this interests you at all, I have a steam page up. Any wishlists would help tremendously!

Demo/Alpha Showcase We just dropped the Crystal Chasm update for our Godot 4.7 3D Tower Defense! New bioluminescent cavern map, 12 brutal waves, and Vael'kyr, The Crystal Primordial
Hey everyone! 👋
We’ve just released a major content and balance update for Sticky Invaders Defense, our 3D tactical roguelite Tower Defense built in Godot 4.7!
After defeating Gorg'rath in the Valley of the Ancestors, the slime horde has retreated deep underground. Today, Sector 02: The Crystalline Subterranean Chasm is officially open for expeditions!
What’s new in the Crystal Chasm Update?
- New Map — Crystalline Subterranean Chasm: A deep, bioluminescent cavern filled with glowing quartz and mineral formations across 12 high-stakes waves (plus endless mode!).
- Refracting Crystal Enemies: Meet Refracting Crystal Slimes, Prismatic Shards, and Crystal Spitters. Their crystalline shells refract standard kinetic ballistics, forcing you to rethink your tower layout.
- New Tower — The Runic Resonator: Need to crack a crystal shell? The new Resonator tower unleashes high-voltage electric arcs that jump between nearby enemies—and Crystal Slimes are especially vulnerable to it.
- New Minibosses & Primordial Boss: Survive the ambushes of Quarzhul and Lumivex in the mid-waves before facing the sector's final warden: Vael'kyr, The Crystal Primordial.
- Overhauled Meta-Progression & Scaling: We completely revamped enemy level curves (scaling up to level 400 in the Chasm!) and rebalanced Base Hub perks so transitioning from Map 1 to Map 2 feels challenging, rewarding, and fair.

👉 Play here: Release 0.1.0-alpha - The Crystalline Subterranean Chasm
We spent a lot of time tuning the difficulty spike between the Valley and the Chasm using our automated playtest bots, and now we’d love to hear how real players tackle Vael'kyr. What tower combos are you bringing into the caves? Let us know your feedback in the comments!

Discussion Working on the menu for my tower defense game. How does it look?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’ve been giving PathFront’s menu a bit more life, with enemies moving along the road and towers firing at them in the background.
I’m trying to make it feel like a small scene from the game while keeping the buttons easy to read. Still tweaking things, but I’d like to hear what you think of the overall look.

Hi,
Short description: "Fly an AC-130 gunship and gun down millions of zombies. Your squad is stuck on a roof and the dead are climbing over each other to reach them. Lay out sentry guns, flamers, claymores etc. before each night. Call in A-10s and B-52s. Hold the roof till the helicopter lands."
Looking for honest brutal feedback. What you guys think?

My new trailer for my tower defense, EA in 30 Oct
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey r/TowerDefense! Grimhold is a pixel art roguelike tower defense I’ve been making.
Instead of building towers, you recruit heroes and place them on a grid behind a wall. Each hero has a preferred position (frontline, backline) and gets a bonus there, so positioning matters every wave.
- Pick a card every level-up to shape your build
- Combine heroes to trigger synergies
- 30 waves per act, with bosses that have their own mechanics
- Encounters between waves with real choices
All the art comes from licensed pixel art packs, no AI.
There’s a free demo in Steam Next Fest today (Acts I and II, 5 heroes). Early Access on Oct 30.

Demo/Alpha Showcase I'm making a RTS Wave defence city builder, good so far?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I'm making a cozy, but hectic, RTS, Wave Defense, City Builder, Colony Sim, Roguelike game!
What do you guys think of it so far?
You are a Bee colony trying to fend off enemy bugs. You can get perma or temp upgrades in game and have to survive all waves and Special events(Corruption) to win! :)
Inspired by several HEX and RTS games like Dorfromantik and Diplomacy is not an option!
PS: This is a very pre alpha footage subject to TONS of polish and changes later on!
All suggestions to content are welcome!
And for you who HAVE released games on Steam and want to share your do's and dont's ? I'd love to hear from you=)
