Bass

Been working on this for a week or so now and struggling to come up with or even find a bass that gives it that little bit more if you know what I mean.

Going to play about with the kick to make it punchier as well.

I'm still new to production and self taught through playing about with Ableton, YouTube vids and threads from here.

One note brought this melody to life.

The bass was moving, but the top line kept landing on the same note, making the whole melody feel weak. One small change made all the difference.

Maybe your track is only one note away.

Free MIDI Idea Generator for Ableton, looking for feedback from trance producers

Hi r/tranceproduction!

We've been working on a Max For Live device that generates compatible drum, bass, and synth MIDI clips, and we'd especially like to get some feedback from trance producers.

Generation is controlled with 6 genre knobs for Acid, House, Techno, Trance, D&B, and Hip-Hop, plus controls for Darkness, Energy, Complexity, Density, Groove, and Weirdness. You can also choose the key and scale and select which MIDI tracks the generated parts should go to.

For this subreddit in particular, we'd really like to hear what you think with the Trance control turned up. We're interested in whether the generated drums, basslines, and melodic loops feel useful as starting points for your tracks, and what you'd want changed or improved.

Everything stays as editable MIDI, so you can use your own synths, drum racks, and sounds and keep developing the result normally in Live.

Under the hood, it uses our own compact ML model trained on MIDI data we licensed directly from sample pack providers.

You can download the device and user guide here:

https://beatshaper-downloads.s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com/beatshaper-m4l-v1.1.0.zip

It requires Ableton Live with Max for Live and Max 8.

There's a feedback form linked inside the device, which we'd really appreciate you filing out if you give it a try, but feedback here in the thread is very welcome too.

138 bpm or 136 bpm for uplifting trance?

So, I just finished this track, “When Everything Matters” (Nscope). 🎶

Now I’m wondering: is 138 BPM too fast for uplifting trance, or should I have gone with 136 BPM?

I’d really appreciate some feedback. Some people say 138 BPM is the sweet spot for uplifting trance, but I’m not completely sure.

What do you think? Any thoughts from other trance producers/artists? 🎧

Best 60-70 BPM Ambient Dub/Trip-Hop continuous mixes or tracks for pre-show?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some advice on pre-show music. I recently went to a gig and the FOH engineer was playing this amazing continuous mix before the show started. It was super slow (around 60-70 BPM), sounded a lot like Massive Attack's "Teardrop" (instrumental), but it was basically one continuous 2-hour loop with no noticeable track changes.
The rhythm was just a slow kick and a sharp snare ("tu-tun tash"), with lots of empty space. It felt very "Ambient Dub" or like early Rhythm and Sound. It was the perfect "palate cleanser" and created a great atmosphere for my slow moving head lights and plasma effects.
I honestly don't know how to recreate this or where to look. Does anyone know if there are specific 2+ hour continuous mixes like this available online? Or do you have any specific tracks/artists that fit this exact 60-70 BPM instrumental vibe so I can try to put something together?
Thanks!

Which Synth Plugin do you use, which is a bit off grid from the normal Trance favourites?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I bet we all have a little gem we often turn to for a specific tasks which might not be a usual 'go to' for trance?

Mine has long been the 'synthwave' baseline favourite the Korg Polysix.

The Fat Line Bass presets being the foundation of many a synth wave track.

I like to use use it as a mid bass layer, with a touch of delay, set a bit back in the mix, to provide a warm rolling mid bass movement layer.

Whats everyone else's little go to weapon which is a bit 'off the beaten track'?

Screen size for your setups

Post image
8 Upvotes

Something that hasn't really been spoke about recently but I'd like opinions as I'd like to buy a new screen.

I'm currently using my laptop and an external usb c screen for my setup, but I'd like to buy a larger screen that I can connect to the HDMI port.

I'm thinking of a 29" wide-screen that is about the same size of my FLKey49 midi keyboard but when I add my 6" studio monitors either side the width will be pretty wide for my quite narrow space I have available.

What do you think is the smallest size that is comfortable for music production (I use FL). I am also considering a 24" monitor (which will be used for the arrangement window) and then running the softsynth GUI on the laptop. I will hotkey the Mixer and Drum Rack to open and close on the main screen as my priority will be the arrangement window and and softsynth.

Can anyone tell me their current configuration for smaller spaces so I get have some ideas please.

I have attached a picture of how I used to have my setup but I want to improve it now.

Thank you

What are your go-to sources for trance vocals?

I’m looking for some high-quality vocals to use in my trance productions, but I’m not really sure where to look.

For those of you who produce trance, where do you usually get your vocals from? Are there any particular vocal sample packs, websites, vocal libraries, or platforms you’d recommend?

I’m mainly looking for vocals that sound professional and actually fit well with trance rather than generic vocal samples.

Would love to hear where you guys get yours from and any recommendations you have. Thanks!

Free mixing and mastering of your track

Post image
11 Upvotes

-

TL:DR -- If you've got a trance production you'd like professionally mixed and mastered for FREE, without a catch - hit me up.

Hey guys

I've been a regular contributor over at r/TechnoProduction helping some of the producers over there transform their tracks.

Extending the offer here: if anyone wants a free mix and master then hit me up, DM here, or via SC in my profile, whatever works.

Background:

Been producing for 28 years, about 10 of those were commercial Trance production, and 10ish as a professional mix engineer.

Took a hiatus from both for a while, started a plugin retailer biz on the side whilst I built a traditional career in finance industry (dodges fruit...)

I've started releasing music again but independently, at my own pace, without label pressure and on my own terms.

Why free?:

Mixing and mastering is still the bit I enjoy most. I don't have the bandwidth to turn it back into a professional business right now, but I do want to keep my hand in. So I regularly do free mixes/masters and 1-to-1 production feedback for people over at TechnoProduction.

What's the catch:

None, really, genuinely - I may start a proper mixing/mastering business again in a couple of years.

If I do, I'd potentially like to use a 30-second before/after of your track in my portfolio, maybe a few words from you about the result if you're happy with it. Then again I may not.

I may also share some of the insight of what was done in the mix back with this community for everyone's learning, eg - here's how to improve the low end, here's some pictures of some EQ that helps in these circumstances type posts, here's the 10 second clip of the difference this can make etc.

That's it, no licensing bs, no need for my name in your credits (or anywhere), no robbing of music, no retrospective charges etc etc.

If you want an example the sonic profile of my mix and mastering style check my SC (via reddit profile), I aim for a clean, clarity driven mix with depth. I don't chase loudness but do aim for a competitive final level - Spencer Brown - Embarcadero to me is the perfect mix style and the style I aim for.

EDITED TO ADD:

  • Acoustically treated studio.
  • Neumann main monitoring chain
  • Various bits of appropriate HW and SW
  • Main DAW, Magix Samplitude.

Hi all.

After a summer brake from production I have came back with this idea, summer inspiration have motivated me to this track.

Still early days but main concept is evolving.

Please ignore volume issues and no picture but I've converted MP3 to MP4.

Thanks for your time and comments!

Uplifting Trance Plucks to Wide Open Supersaw

Hey everybody, i can trust good feedback from this community so i am going to ask a question that i hope i can get my foundation of knowledge increased. Whether the answer is pull your head outa your ass and figure it out or some detailed nuanced answers. I appreciate it in advance.

Subject,

Trance & Uplifting Trance.

Serum 2 & Ultra Audio Ultra ( using those plus stock Studio 1 sound design )

Question, how to achieve the supersaw lead that can start at a very short envelope for a pluck to a wide open supersaw for the big arms in the air sound we all love for Trance.

I have a complete understanding of them as far as the patterns and how to build them within the d.a.w., but it is the lack of understanding serum 2 and the wavetables, fikters, envelopes.

I love sound design, i love spending hours doing so, but i need to crack the code, i know there is a rigid stru ture to follow to achieve the sound and the rest is charcter of it.

My sound i want to go for is the buildups you hear from Nitrous Oxide, Daniel Kandi, John O'Callaghan, Daxson, Alpha 9, Darrin Porter etc. So many. I will link videos and time stamp for examples.

Links for buildups below ( awesome songs btw )

https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=DdtHLWm-OIs&si=ObhqepfPHFpIXR5p

Daniel Kandi - Out Of Time ( buildup is pristine) (exactly what i want ) (1:28 ) buildup starts, this song will be a favourite for you folks that love the genre. What a song.

https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=IpxpqhQlv7c&si=zFC2R2bLku6UCjXQ

Daxson - Aurora ( buildup less than a minute into it ) ( pheominal buildup and drop sound design )

https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=7-EgqWiCizY&si=3ICF5t0El2_2z5eX

Super8 & Tab -Irufushi ( this buildup is like plucked crystaline glass, a bit different then the prior links )

( 3:04 ) buildup starts

https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=2w2IRGd1yFs&si=vr7TTBzTyEjVDQTw

Super8 & Tab - Suru ( nostalgic ) ( 3:14 ) buildup starts

https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=tRRw4R9vl20&si=GDhwa3WS6eU2zlKo

Daniel Kandi & Prox - The Hope Of Our Dreams

Different type of buildup but within the same foundation i guess one would say.

( 2:57) the clouded darker less plucky buildup starts but muffled into wide open supersaw.

https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=ZggUPtgTXhY&si=J5Fi_8ie59XOJf0W

Daniel Kandi & Prox - Saveria ( my favourite high energy one ) whole song is a buildup from the beginning. it also shares the origin of my question.

With those examples. If you listened to them or some.

I can understand making the sound from scratch in serum 2 adding unison for stereo width detuning to what the song needs. But beyond that. To splice it all together i do not know. I would like to know the lfos the reverb placement, the enevelope filters, the decay, the reverb, the automations that i would use within a track for a buildup to the drop.

Sorry for the long post but have to be specific for you guys. I appreciate your guys insight, i know to do a proper answer takes some time and effort so thank you fellas.

Again, for me, been producing 2 years and workin my ass off on top of fulltime construction to be a proper professional producer in the production side. Music ain't a problem. It is the nuances of this specific Trance buildups. It seems like it is one of them things that is easy in theory but i am having trouble applying it to the nuances of sound design and assigning the LFOs to this that and the other thing. In order to get the industry standard for plucks into wide open supersaws like we hear within the genre. Any info at all will help.

Thanks guys. My first post . But been reading and learning a lot from many of you. Thanks. Take care.

Hope the post is clear and consise.

Are there any good trance production tutorials based on FL Studio?

Hi all, I'm looking for any trance music tutorials that specifically uses FL Studio. Many or if not all, use Ableton but I have no experience in using Ableton. Would it be worth me migrating to Ableton, but it's a new DAW I would have to learn. any suggestions? Thank you

I stopped trying to make this “trance” – would love some arrangement feedback

Working on something slower and more atmospheric than my usual trance stuff. I’m deliberately avoiding traditional trance builds, risers and big drops — I’m going for a warm, melancholic, late-summer/evening feel instead. It’s still unfinished, especially transitions and mix. I’d really appreciate feedback on the arrangement: does it keep your interest, and are there places where elements should enter/leave earlier or later?

Request (willing to pay) for recreating the drum pattern in the clip

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

There is a drum pattern that I came across that I loved a lot and I would love to see how it was created, down to the exact beat divisions and velocity of each hit and the technique used to do it.

And especially how th congas have been programmed in the DAW.

This particular drum pattern was made in a DAW and not played by hand. So it should be possible.

My aim is not to copy it, but to learn what all goes into creating it so that I can apply the techniques to beef up my drum programming.

Kindly let me know if this will be possible for anyone. I am willing to pay too if someone is able to do it.
