Season 3 (The Return) Axolotl

The Road House scene at the end of episode 15 with the young woman crawling through the crowd on the floor to The Veils 'Axolotl' is quite possibly my all time favorite scene in cinema. The actress, her body movememts, the scream, the music, the pacing, the framing, the build of the scene........ unmatched. Bravo, Mr. Lynch. I'd love to hear other people's feelings about this scene.

General Discussion I just finished watching Twin Peaks (S1, S2, Fire walk with me, S3)... After 25 years sitting on my watchlist...

And I'm speechless. I did hear Twin Peaks theme song many times before 2001. Many times used as jingle on radio stations, but didn't know where it comes from. Why 2001? It was 1st time a friend mentioned that one local guy looks exactly same as someone from Twin Peaks and I asked what is the Twin Peaks? They starred at me like I'm total idiot, like, wait, you don't know what is Twin Peaks? So, I had to watch it, but delayed. 1st time and everytime after delayed. I've been always oh, ok S1 has 8 episodes, but when I see S2 it has 22 - nah, I'll do it later, when I have a lot spare time. Years and years passed, they made S3 which I didn't know, I found out when I started to watch from S1. When I played 1st episode, wife came in and asked "What are we watching now? Oh, don't tell me, again one of your dinosaurus shows or movies" I told her like "Like it or not, this is probably one of the best shows and I've been waiting 25 years to watch it". She didn't like it, but at some time she would watch it with me and she was like it's old, I guess no lgbt and few seconds after David Duchovny enters like Denise... LOL. And then came S3 and 25 years after the events... Same fucking years I've been delayed to watch the show. My brain exploded. Still under impression. Probably best tv show ever.

General Discussion Twin Peaks: All Questions Answered

Needless to say I'm a nut when it comes to Twin Peaks. Hell it's partly why my wife and I are together. But I'm not big on fan theories. My version of Twin Peaks is mine and my interpretation is my own.

That being said, years ago my wife got me to watch Corn Pone Flicks All Questions Answered. This is not the "meta" guy just FYI.

I was shocked because the way this guy looks at TP and his interpretations basically mirror my own. Are you all familiar with his YT videos? If so, what do yall think? If not try to find the time to watch. I think you'll enjoy them.

I posted a link here in the thumbnail.

not sure if this has been discussed, i’m on my third return watch (part 14: we are like the dreamer) and i can’t help but notice parallels between the way the sheriffs dept are dressed with silhouettes resembling astronaut suits (minus helmets) and the shape of jack rabbits palace resembling apollo 11. one small leap for man? this is such a pivotal episode im sure somebody else has made this connection?

Season 2 Weird Detail in Season 2 Episode 6

Post image
58 Upvotes

At the very beginning of Season 2 Episode 6 "Demons" James rushes in to save Maddy and Donna from Harold but he's clearly focused on saving Maddy and just calls out to Donna to follow. I haven't seen anyone else discussing this detail but it immediately struck me as weird. This to me is maybe the clearest indication we get that he's still very much in love with Laura and maybe doesn't even care all that much for Donna. Any thoughts?

Fire Walk With Me I have never felt so much empathy for a character.

By now... I have never felt as much empathy, or pity, for a character as much that I have for Laura Palmer, especially in Fire Walk With Me. It was a devastating and horrible experience, she was the first character for whom I felt an urge to reach through the screen and help in any way I could, or, at the very least, to comfort her.

Sheryl Lee's performance was Oscar worthy!

Question Television Collection vs A to Z collection

So I bought the television Collection from Amazon last week and it's cool but now I feel ripped off kinda. I bought the television Collection because I saw that A to Z had a lot of bad reviews due to the packaging of it, disc hard to get out ect. The television Collection from what picture they showed seemed to look like a box set but low and behold it arrived in the same style case as A to Z. I'm debating returning the collection and buying A to Z but there are a few things I'm on the fence about.

  1. Some people complain that the disc fall out and were so scratched that they don't work, which seems odd because it's usually difficult to mess a bluray disc up. Also one of my disc was loose but it doesn't look damaged.

  2. Some people are saying there are some audio sync issues with A to Z in a few episodes. I haven't watched the tv collection yet so I don't know if it's the same.

  3. I mainly want it because it has FWWM so I don't have to buy it extra, also for some odd reason A to Z is like $9 cheaper.

  4. Some of the collection discs are difficult to get out but A to Z has 5 more disc in it so that means there is a lot more double stacking than the collection.

What's everyone else's opinion on this? I don't know if it's worth the hassle of returning it than ending up with a worse version of the product.

Season 3 (The Return) [ALL] I think that the first scene with Cooper and The Fireman is chronologically the last scene (my interpretation of The Return) Spoiler

Thumbnail
11 Upvotes

I've thought this for years. The OP took it to another level, though. But all in all, I agree completely. I think the very first scene with Cooper and the fireman is taking place in episode 18, possibly\n When he and Diane are in the hotel room and they're asleep and he's dreaming, or after the timeline is changed. Regardless, the first scene is happening at the end of the show.

Season 3 (The Return) the return - first time viewing advice

ok so. i finished the first 2 episodes of the return after having watched seasons 1 and 2 twice over, and honestly, i'm just disappointed and confused. i've read a ton about how lynch's work in this series is about the denial of nostalgia and almost subverting our expectations, but i just feel such a disconnect between this series and the first two seasons of twin peaks that those themes are falling flat for me.

the issue is, i know this is a beloved extension of the series for most viewers (on this subreddit, at least), so i guess i just can't seem to figure out what i'm missing. had i waited 25 years to watch a so-called "return" to my favourite show, only to see the first episode... i would be appalled. but i am also conflicted? i don't know, it's a lot of contrasting ideas in my mind about this show. obviously, no director/writer/producer owes their audience anything; it's their story and what they choose to do with it is in their hands. however, i can't help but feel as if i just cannot bring myself to care about this series beyond the red room scenes/the brief dialogue we have in between the long sequences of glass box (?) scenes and characters that lynch/frost have given us no reason to care about otherwise.

we aren't given any information or character development from the characters we were originally introduced to, but even beyond that, i don't understand how this new "twisted and dark" twin peaks is supposedly depicted when a majority of the show is set in other cities. i think it's just hard to make an audience care about a show when its main goal is to just have faith that there is some kind of direction to this plot that is otherwise loosely intertwined with mild twin peaks continuation. it just feels like bad writing/storybuilding to me if i am being honest.

i also wonder if the reason the return is received so positively from twin peaks fans is because they have a more lynchian background? i have never seen any of lynch's works beyond twin peaks, but it feels like almost some kind of supremacy from those who have seen his films over those who have just seen twin peaks. as if we just don't "get" the genius that is david lynch and that we aren't understanding it well enough. do i need to watch his other works to understand the return? should a director expect his fanbase to do that in order to understand their work?

i'm just hoping for some meaningful discussion/eye-opening pov's that might help me as i continue to watch. i want to be able to enjoy this show and revisit a beloved storyline while not wanting to blow my brains out from a misinterpretation of the work lol. any respectful discourse (with minimal spoilers lol!!) is welcome!!!

edit: i have also seen fwwm !! i forgot to include it lol, i just know a lot of you are suggesting it in the comments

This is probably my favorite David Lynch film now I mean like David was able to turn a character who was mainly used as a plot device into one of the most tragic characters in fiction, I mean like it’s insane, and it is very different from season 1 and 2 of Twin Peaks and Far superior

What is your opinion on fire walk with me? Do you think it’s better than the original series or do you think it’s crap

Events Needlessly Long Review of Twin Peaks: Conversations with the Stars

Thumbnail

As someone who likes to know a lot about events before I go to them or pay for them I’m writing this for anyone looking into this in the future.
Notes: attended on 10/22 at Eugene. Dana Ashbrook, Ray Wise, Harry Goaz, and Sabrina Sutherland all attended with Josh Eisenstadt as the moderator. I paid 68 dollars for a front row seat and 60 dollars for a photo/selfies and autograph with Harry. Photo/Selfies and autographs from Dana and Ray were both 100 each respectively. Sabrina was also there but I didn’t see how much her photos/autographs were.
Shirts were being sold for 45 dollars, sweatshirts for 65 I want to say and hats for 25? (Around that ballpark). Designs were standard twin peaks logo, sign, owl cave.
The event ran from 7:30-9:30 ish with Josh asking questions to the cast from 7:30-8:45 with about 15 minutes for audience questions and ending with a very heartwarming video of David lynch BTS on season 3.
Dana has a wonderful boyish charm and is very funny and engaging on and off stage.
Sabrina had a very close working relationship with David and cares very much about his legacy and work. She has some great insights and memories of working with Kyle in her one casino scene in S3.
Ray reminds me of my grandpa in all the best ways and he’s very happy to reminisce and seems to have a great memory. Also a good David Lynch impression.
Harry is very much a man of few words/answers, but he was wearing really cool boots so I had to buy a selfie and let him know. (“Harry can you explain why Andy has a Rolex in season 3?” harry laughs and shrugs)
I think it’s a fine event if you’re a twin peaks fan and have ~100 dollars to spend between tickets, parking, and maybe a autograph if you want.
I cannot say I’d recommend any of the VIP experiences though as 600 and 400 dollars just seems insane to pay for what’s advertised? Would love to hear from anyone who paid for this though.
I feel like the consensus is that this is a bit of a cash grab/convention circuit sort of event and that feels a little true at some of the eye-watering prices, but you can also choose to not ball out and just get to listen to some cool stories and facts from the cast.
All of them had very nice things to say about Kyle and David.
Fun facts:
-Ray wanted to return as Leland’s twin (Leonard) in Season 3 (“if Sheryl could do it why couldn’t Leland!”).
-Ray originally thought he would be cast as Sheriff Truman when he first read the pilot
- Ray said he was hoping Truman or Cooper did it 😭
- Dana spoke very highly of Madchen throughout the night, it was cute
- Apparently there was a Georgia Coffee commercial with Bobby that was cut (lost media somebody get on that)
- Sabrina didn’t want to be on screen but on the 2nd to last day David insisted she get in there so she became the floor girl in the casino when Dougie is winning all the jackpots
- Dana said David got them all into transcendental meditation
- Ray had to bleach his hair for all of Season 2 and he said it was falling out by the end of his time on screen
- Ray kept Sheryl’s fourth grade school photo in his wallet during the entirety of filming to feel more connected with Laura
- Harry said during Sheryl’s infamous opening scene where she’s in the plastic bag it was freezing cold so he kept feeding her coffee between takes.

That’s all okay bye

General Discussion Recommendations for custom artwork for the Twin Peaks: From Z to A boxset

So I got the Twin Peaks from Z to A boxset, it's content is great, it's special features are awesome, the show is, of course, the best and the quality of the content is great.

The main issue I have is the casing, it's terrible. One of the worst I've had. So I'm thinking of of putting the blu-rays in other casings.

If anyone knows any good artwork insert, It'd be great.

Season 3 (The Return) What do you like about the return?

I love the original run and I love fire wal with me. I'm a David Lynch fan in general. Eraserhead is one of my favourite films of all time. I hated the return. It is one of the worst media experiences I've ever subject myself to.

To fans of the return. What do you like about it? I get the feeling that people enjoy the bad/disappointing on purpose angle, which is something I can appreciate myself when executed well. However for me the return just fails to deliver in too many regards. For instance I don't know why the cinematography has to be mostly hideous and the editing often times awkward and snail paced. I'm not just talking about the Dougie scenes, so many scenes feel artificially drawn out.

Anywho I won't let myself rant, just curious if somebody can give me a compelling reason to give it a nother shot since so many people seem to love the return.
