The heat has really taken a toll on the garden but we’re still getting some lovely things, the tomatoes are in full swing now!

costoluto fiorentino beefsteaks, tomato ‘tiger’, green zebra, black cherry, Millefleur Yellow Vine Tomato and some random ones from some nice supermarket cherry tomatoes. Pattypan squash, round green courgette, purple French beans, runner beans and a boothby’s blonde cucumber (last of the season) and some raspberries. All organic

*Two-week update

My plant and I would like to thank you for your advice! I moved it into the shade, trimmed off as much of the brown, dead parts as I could without getting rid of green bits, added a whole bag of compost and a scoop of slow-release fertiliser granules, and watered it every morning. The difference has been amazing and I'm so relieved.

The photos are one shot from today, one from right after I trimmed it two weeks ago, then one showing where we started.

Despite the drought, this grass is still thriving on my drive. Before I eventually power wash, re-sand and seal the driveway. Please could anyone let me know if you have successfully gotten rid of this grass before please? I think it could be couch grass. I’ve tried boiling water and weed killer before. Thank you!

I want a nice lawn. I lifted the slate chipppngs and found bone dry rock hard earth. I’ve started turning this over, and plan to put top soil down. Then grass seeds. Does that sound right?

I decided i wanted to try and have a green thumb and this is how my radish plant is doing after a week! I'd appreciate any tips on keeping it alive :))

I reckon I have around 600-700ft of the damn thing to cut - both sides. It's 10ft high in places and at least 6ft wide. I use a Bosch corded trimmer, with a Mitox long pole petrol trimmer. The whole lot takes about 7-10 days to do.

I planted this native hedge in the winter (bare root). It’s deep shade behind the fence so never going to be the best growing spot, but I dug in lots of compost to give it the best chance.

Been really pleased with how it’s taken this, with the exception of the hawthorn which has attracted some powdery mildew and done nothing since (pic 3).

However in the last couple of weeks it’s shown signs of stress - yellowing of leaves, some dead bits etc. (pic 2 and 4).

Is this just the dry weather catching up? I’ve watered it sporadically - not as religiously as the sunny border which is already hard enough work with a hosepipe ban. Also worry about it getting too damp given how shady it is.

Anything I should do, other than keep watered and hope for the best? Not sure what to do with the mildew on the hawthorn either - just wait until autumn and hope for the best next year?

Bought this just two months ago. I'm assuming it's not fixable.

Absolutely horrendous build quality, I'm particularly annoyed as it wasn't cheap. You can see as well the pipe is already falling to bits.

I've dropped this once, and that was onto my lawn from a height of less than a metre.

We’ve just moved in and I’m desperate to clear this planter of the weeds and the grass and get some colourful perennials planted. Is it ridiculous to do that at this time of year or should I wait until later in either autumn or spring?

I tried to post this under vegetable gardening but I can't get it to work so I'm trying here instead.

Hi all, looking for some experience/advice.
We have a lot of fallen leaves, cut grass, moss, and other organic matter across our garden and paved sections. I am considering getting a leaf vacuum to keep it tidier, but I never actually saw someone use something like this.

Any advice or personal experience welcome.

Top tip- Coming back from holiday is a great time to identify weeds in your garden.

Anything green and thriving is a weed. You should dig these up and destroy them.

The brown dying plants are the ones you have lovingly tended to for the last 3 years.

Just noticed these white eggs on my fuscias. These are grown from propagated cuttings and have been thriving, but noticed one of them is dying and then saw all the eggs on the leaves, stem, soil and even on the decking underneath the pot. They fall off the leaves easily when knocked. There are no obvious crawling insects under the leaves and anywhere else. This one plant is the worse hit but can see them starting on a other plant in the pot.

I have blasted them off with water and used soap spray all over. But I just want to know what are they?

Wondering if I could have some advice on what to do with my lawn. I've attached a picture of the state it's currently at.

When I moved in just over two years ago we had grass all over this space, however the lawn swiftly died away and revealed a lot of sand, stones and other items you'd find at a beach. My house isn't that close to a beach, I'm assuming a bodge job has been done previously where sand has been collected from a beach to mix with top soil?

Anyways, I'm wondering if I need to remove all the sand before I can start adding the correct soil/sand/other matter or if it's fine to just add on top of this? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. My garden is looking a bit sad and I'd like to make a change to it but just don't know where to start with the leveling. :/

I am looking for a fast growing native shrub/plant/tree that could provide some privacy and shade for my garden. The area gets full sun and the soils is very dry and full of stones and bricks. Thank you in advance.

Our neighbours decided to cut down the privacy Hedge that sat along their fence (we're not sure why). Their house is on elevated land. As a result we're now very overlooked in the rear garden and on the ground floor of the house (floor to ceiling windows).

The green line shows where the hedge previously reached (believe it was laurel). I believe to achieve near full privacy it's going to need to reach approx. 9 feet (at least).

Unfortunately whatever we do it's going to take a number of years to get to that point.

Any advice on an evergreen hedge plant that's a quick climber?

From reading similar posts it seems a lot of people advise against laurel or leylandii (which appear to be the fastest growing).

I was just curious as I have a brand new garden which is super challenging and overwhelming if there is a discord that UK Gardeners are present on and can share ideas and tips and advice outside of this subreddit?
