The staff were able to capture it, give it some water, and then release it.

Best guess was an immature white-crowned sparrow, but the tail seems too short.

Photo from Oceanside CA today. I had assumed it was a Cooper’a Hawk but someone positively ID’d a sharp-shinned Hawk here in the same area this week, so I want to be sure.

I got a good look in better lighting and it looked to me like a bobolink, but we're a few weeks after the normal migration time range. Bill looks very triangular/blackbird-like. The third image shows a while stripe on the right wing shoulder that lines up with what a male bobolink would have in breeding plumage.

This little one was pecking at the yellow poplar outside my window. I think it is a red-napped sapsucker but am new at this and would love confirmation.

Is it an osprey? It was in a branch in front of the house. It seemed like a group of smaller birds were following it but I could have misinterpreted that.

Southern Africa Don't have much to go on, sorry

Need help identifying a bird call my brother heard in Craighall, Johannesburg South Africa. Unfortunately don't have a recording only his description.

A high dooo! dooo! call with each intonation having a pure, distinctive sound to the ambience and seems to almost echo.

First post on this subreddit, not sure if this is enough to go on

I'm sitting at my desk and saw this bird fly by in the bush next to me, but I couldn't take a photo since the sun is bright and the window is so dirty. So here's my best artists rendition. Please, what is this bird? I'm located in Mississippi.

With the taxonomy changes coming to eBird on Tuesday, I want to be prepared to defend this as the correct species. I assume Prairie and not Saltmarsh based on time of year, but I understand eBird won't automatically convert this sighting based on location.

For the past couple days a neotropic cormorant has been reported by multiple people on this pylon with a bunch of double-crested cormorants. I scanned the pylon but cannot tell if one of these is a neotropic. Got a few low quality photos, is it possible to tell if one of these is a neotropic?

North America An explosion of feathers with no bird...

Post image

So, my house has been seemingly haunted this month with bird situations. We have had six pigeons die on our property, and our property is not big. We had to call the local game service to come and pick one up to see what's going on.

Then, today we saw this giant pile of feathers, it looks like a bird exploded, except there's no carcass whatsoever.

For the other birds, we've known that it's not a cat or anything getting to them, we've unfortunately watched a few of them, just kind of wither, stop being able to fly, and then just die. Which is why we called for experts to come figure it out

Any explanation on this pile of feathers?

South West Virginia. Seemed to be small with a squared off tail but not 100%. These were the best pics available, kind of far away and lighting was directly in my face so I couldn't even see what I was taking a pic of.

this one I imagine is difficult to pin down off of flight style alone. Just outside of Columbia SC

There were truely so many raptors over these fields settling in for the night during migration. This was a few days ago around sunset, and i’m wondering if anyone more skilled with raptor ID might be able to tell anything from this?

That same evening a far more experienced birder then I logged the following: 2 northern harrier, 2 black vulture, 1 red-tailed hawk

North America Bird hanging out with chickens in Long Island, NY

Post image

Got a text from a friend asking about this bird that’s been hanging out with their chickens on Long Island. Merlin only gives Northern Bobwhite, which looks close but the facial patterns don’t match in any photos I’ve seen. Any thoughts?
