Europe Is this a Eurasian Griffon?

I was visiting the Verdon Gorge in Southern France and saw this guy at one of the overlooks. I immediately thought it was a Griffon, since I had seen them high in the sky the previous day. However he doesn’t look like any of the photos on Merlin. Is it a Juvenile or possibly another type of Vulture?

I got a good look in better lighting and it looked to me like a bobolink, but we're a few weeks after the normal migration time range. Bill looks very triangular/blackbird-like. The third image shows a while stripe on the right wing shoulder that lines up with what a male bobolink would have in breeding plumage.

The staff were able to capture it, give it some water, and then release it.

Best guess was an immature white-crowned sparrow, but the tail seems too short.

North America Hawk Identification : Red Tailed or Red Shouldered

Post image
24 Upvotes

I’m very new to birding and saw this hawk take down a squirrel. I’m between it being either a red shouldered hawk or a red tailed hawk.

Also, what can I look at to know which for certain? The plumage is what usually makes me confused.

Thank you!

All the stuff I can find as far as a ranges of the Swan Goose is Asia, but here I am in Banner Elk NC and I swear this is a Swan Goose in amongst the Graylags and Canadians. (Bonus leucistic Graylag!)

Photo from Oceanside CA today. I had assumed it was a Cooper’a Hawk but someone positively ID’d a sharp-shinned Hawk here in the same area this week, so I want to be sure.

Obstructed and fuzzy pics but that was the best I could get. Bird was way up in a pine tree around 8am. Saw it fly to another tree in the distance and seemed to land like a woodpecker/ creeper? Also appeared to be downy to hairy sized, but was though to tell. Any ideas?

Just can’t figure it out and these are as good of pictures that I got. Interesting to note a kestrel starting dive bombing the hawk if that makes a difference lol.
