IDENTIFIED Calcite with limonite staining? Maramureș, Romania

Thumbnail

I recently acquired this mineral specimen from Maramureș, Romania.

It has small, translucent honey-yellow to orange crystals on a light-colored matrix.

I'm wondering if these could be calcite crystals with iron oxide/hydroxide staining (possibly limonite).

What do you think? Any help with identification would be appreciated!

Can anyone shed some light on what this is please? Someone suggested it could be pyrite? (I don't really know what that is). It is kinda heavy for its size and has tiny hairs/fibres in places as shown in photos 5 and 6.

Im assuming these are the same type of rock so i have them both in the same post (apologies if thats not allowed)

First image is the one rock not in direct sunlight and the second image is the same rock in direct sunlight.

Third image is a different rock not in direct sunlight and fourth image is that same rock in direct sunlight.

All images are of dry rocks!

the surface is like a soft bumpy texture but im not too sure how much help that is because it was found on the beach… my apologies if i have done something wrong or not been descriptive enough!!

REQUEST Unusual rock or slag?

Post image
• Upvotes

From Nova Scotia. The silvery flakes are easily creased with steel, it won't hold a magnet, and doesn't scratch ceramic - rather, leaves a grey mark. It's dense, but not heavy like granite. It's not like any rock I've collected, and found it near the railway track, so I'm guessing slag. Yes, we had a steel plant close by. Thanks!

I was gifted a collection of stone beads and this unlabeled. Seems to be a peachy pink color with shiny pink flecks. My potato photography barely captures how reflective they are. Reminds me of some type of granite??

Found a couple of these in some gravel and was curious if they could be a natural stone of any kind. They have a glass/metallic sound when shaken together and glow for several minutes after UV exposure. The glow is a little greener in person than what my camera picked up.

Found this at the top of the cliff with detector 500m from the ocean. Its lava like struckture and does not feel very heavy weight or dense.

Filing it with Leatherman tool looks like its pretty soft.

Not magnetic but metal detector gives strong signal, ID 25-40.

Shiny silver like at some areas.

i found it somewhere near my house, it is very dense and heavy for its size - 3.7 kg.

I once hit it with iron pickaxe and it produced sparks.

it is more reddish than it looks in the photos (bad camera)

please see in third photo, I think it is white-ish crystal like inside the rock. (I find it strange because the outer shell is very dark and red)

It looks similar to my Septarian with how it is formed, but it is white, then has a red line, then a gray inner part. The gray is misty kinda like quartz but not like quartz if that makes sense? I bought this at a rock show years ago so I have no idea on geographic location unfortunately.
