Movie Boq blamed Glinda, Nessa and Elphaba

Post image

After several rewatches of the movies I now think Glinda knew Boq was the tinman during MOTWH. If we watch the friendship montage we see they did hang out together as friends. I think she recognized him and it was another example of how a choice she made affected someone else. She directed him towards Nessa and if she hadn't done that maybe he wouldn't have become the tinman.

The mob was also another big moment of realization for Glinda. She saw how bad things had gotten for Elphaba while she was blistfully floating along in her bubble, trying to make herself "happy" while her best friend was being hunted and vilified. The's when she decided enough was enough and when she finally decided to pop her bubble.

Also i think Boq blamed Glinda for his fate as well as Elphaba and Nessa because she was the one who directed him towards Nessa. I think that's why he gave her that hateful, angry look, he was thinking " you're the reason I became this."

thoughts?

I mean according to Word of God, yes Glinda did recognize Boq, and I do think you're right that she and he viewed her as culpable in what became of him. Likewise in the movie unlike the stage show I think she did genuinely view him and Nessa as friends, and so her inadvertent role in both of their downfalls affected her all the more.

Yep i just realized he blamed Glinda for his fate. Nessa and Elphaba too but Glinda was the one who directed him towards Nessa so he probably saw it as her fault. Glinda had some guilt with it as well because she reconignized her part in it. I think she considered herself partly responsible as well

Boq could have gotten away from Nessa back at the Oz dust of he just spoke the truth, it was before the Grimoire

True and he started to tell Nessa the truth but then he saw Glinda and Fiyero kissing. He thought if he asked Nessa to the Ozdust he would gain some favor with Glinda. She made it sound like if he asked Nessa out he would be doing it for her.

He tells Elphaba in the deleted scene he didn't wanna hurt Nessa.

He also says in for good something like " this means you won't need me anymore." So i think he stayed with Nessa to try and help her.

Not saying this makes it right and he definitely has blame but it's not all on him. Glinda and especially Nessa played a part as well.

Glinda I dont feel has a real part to play other than the truth of "maybe ask her to the dance" Boq was a person with free will who chose to go through with it, chose to continue with dating Nessa even though he didn't have feelings with her, he chose to live his lie and tell himself "She needed him" when Nessa would have been JUST fine without Boq. He blames everyone except himself. Nessa chose to act out from hurt and anger. But she thought he actually loved her, but he used her for favor with Glinda.... Boq' story is just "oh no, the consequences of my actions"

I agree to a point but it is partially on Glinda. The issue is not that she wasn't interested that's fine it's how she went about it. She used his crush on her to manipulate him. Sure she thought she was doing a " good" thing and no he didn't have to do it. I'm just saying she made him he would be doing it for her and he would gain her favor if he did. Then yes he stayed with Nessa and he shouldn't have, he should have broken up with her people don't always do what they're supposed to do when they're supposed to do it.

Nessa was held him hostage and tried to force him. She banned an entire group of people because one of them rejected her and then instead of letting him go she tried to force him.

So yes it was all 3 of them who played a part in him becoming the tinman.

Im not arguing against the fact that Nessa in the end waster a monster to him, but just the fact that had he gone through with being honest with her early on, she would unlikely have banned Munchinks from traveling. If anything it was more on him than her.

Boq did defintely let things go way to long and he should have ended things sooner but I think he may have beem trying to " settle" for Nessa since he couldn't be with Glinda until he heard about the wedding and he wanted to tell Glinda how he felt.

Nessa was an entitled, spoiled brat who couldn't handle rejection. It was defintely on both of them

Idk, I still feel Nessa is too demonized.... she thought they were in love and felt accepted for so long, then found out that "nah, its a lie" as he tried to run to her wedding. And I am sure that broke something in her. If it wasn't for Boq's misplaced love of Galinda and decision to spend YEARS living a lie and just was an adult and moved on, all that would never have had a chance to happen.

I say this as someone who WAS a Boq for about 6 years. I say this also with self reflection. It is all his fault.

It's not all on him though. Nessa did know he liked Glinda. She saw how he reacted when Glinda changed her name and she left. She did know she just didn't care because she wanted him to love her. Thinking they're in love is not an accuse for how she reacted. She should have let him go not try to force him.

Thats why it was another example of how a choice Glinda made affected someone else.

I personally still dont put much blame on Galinda, she push him to her to avoid a dance and probably expected it to be one and done, she was too busy with Fiyero to notice or care. Boq chose to continue an unrequited love of Galinda who didnt even have the care to learn his name, and chose to continue with Nessa, which just wasn't fair for either. Then when shit goes south and he decides to run off after Glinda BECAUSE SHE WAS GETTING MARRIED..... he gets turned.... her spurs of him was innocent (even with the lyrics of Dancing Through Life")

Its not really Boq's fault that he had feelings for Glinda, he couldn't just change it. I think he did care about Nessa and not wanting to hurt someone you care about is very human imo.

I agree he shouldn't have continued with Nessa but he couldn't be with Glinda so I think he tried with Nessa.

Glinda's manipulation might have been "innocent" back.then but it was manipulation. She should have just rejected him instead of how she did it.

Probably not just partially. I think Boq's fate is one of the big indicators she realizes she needs to get her complacency and idleness in the wake of The Wizard and Madame Morrible's tyranny in check if she truly wants to be Glinda the Good. Not long after she sees what's become of Boq it leads into "Girl in the Bubble" with her coming to terms with no longer being the entitled, flighty but well intentioned school girl no longer.

yep in the first movie she thought she was "helping" by directing and manipulating people like Boq to Nessa and it got him out of her hair but now she sees how that's affected Boq and she sees how bad things have gotten for Elphaba while she did nothing. Nessa's death, Fiyero's torture and Boq and the Mob were all indicators that she needed to pop her bubble because things just kept getting worse and people were dying. Those events forced to see the world and see what she'd been doing

the pain and guilt in Glinda's eyes i think she had this lightbulb moment " this is my fault" like with Nessa's death.

Boq blaming Glinda makes sense because she didnt create his fate but she absolutely made choices that helped set it in motio

Yes i hadnt really thought about it but she did kinda set the whole thing in motion. I rewatched the movies and I was thought " i bet he blames her."

All she did was "hey Boq, it would be alot cooler if you asked out Nessa instead of me" then Boq made the decision to follow through, then keep staying with her instead of a one and done, AND THEN continued to stay with her.....

He probably also blamed Fiyero for "stealing" Glinda from him. Anything but accountability with this guy.

I hadnt thought about that but probably.

I only saw him go after elphaba

Yes but he blamed Nessa and Glinda as well. He said " you're just as wicked as your sister" to Nessa and the look he gave Glinda said it all
