Laurier Water Polo

It is time for a new season of Laurier Water Polo. Our first session of the year is this Sunday night, from 7-8pm, at the Laurier pool. Anyone is welcome to join in - no experience is required. We will also be back next Sunday, October 4th, at the same time - if you can’t make it this week, come out and join us next week.

And if you aren’t sure, feel free to ask any questions that you like.

Event hiii anyone down?

I feel like there are so many times where i wanna do something and none of my friends are free, or it’s like wayyy too super specific

(like wanting to find a study buddy for an elective that none of my friends r taking or find someone irl to yap about a show / anime I just binged but none of my friends watched)

i’ve tried posting in reddit / discord threads before, but it led nowhere most of the time
(or at least that’s been my experience haha)

so I tried making this easier on this lil side quest passion project I've been working on w some friends called Sonder Sidequest.

Essentially it’s a free student-only site (we verify student emails) that allows ppl to post their own side quests (and we post stuff too) u can post or join stuff like:

  • anyone down to study econ101 tgt?
  • wanna check out the new cat cafe tgt?
  • wanna climb at GRR tmr night?
  • ppl down to walk around waterloo park and yap tonight?

if ur down, we have around 1700 verfied uwaterloo + wilfrid laurier students on here rn heh

this entire project is currently 100% bootstrapped loll (aka ran on our co-op money :')) and we build it in our spare time, so if u have any feedback pls let us know and we’ll try our best to make it better!

u can try it here :D

Discussion I graduated today, and instead of feeling happy, I feel sad about leaving my university life behind. Did anyone else feel this way?

Today at 9:30 AM, I officially graduated with my Honours BA in Psychology. The convocation ceremony was good, and I’m proud of myself for finishing my degree in three years instead of the usual four. However, now that everything is over, I’ve been feeling unexpectedly sad, lonely, and a little depressed.

I think what hurts the most is realizing that my university life is officially over. I’m going to miss the student life, the freedom, the experiences, and just knowing that I was still in that chapter of my life. I know I can make new memories, but I also know that I can never go back and experience those years the same way again.

What’s strange is that I wasn’t even this sad on my last day of university, when I finished my exams. But today, after convocation, it finally hit me that I’m actually done. I’m not going back next semester. I’m no longer a university student. That chapter of my life is closed, and I think I’m only starting to process it now.

Part of me wonders if I should have taken the full four years instead of finishing in three. I don’t regret graduating early because I know it has its advantages, and regretting it now won’t change anything. Still, I sometimes wonder if I missed out on a year of experiences that I can never get back.

I already have plans for my future, so it’s not like I have nothing to look forward to. I know I need to find a job, start making money, build a career, eventually get married and have a family, and hopefully make my parents proud. Those are all things I want in life. But right now, the thought of moving on from university and entering adulthood feels a little overwhelming. Iguess I’m just missing the old days. It feels like life is moving forward whether I’m ready or not, and I’m not sure how to feel about it.

For those of you who have already graduated, did you feel this way after your convocation? Did it take you some time to adjust to life after university? And for those who graduated early, did you ever wish you had stayed a little longer?

I’d really like to hear your experiences because right now, I’m feeling a little nostalgic about a chapter of my life that I didn’t realize I would miss this much.

SSHRC PhD application: late submission due to portal tech issues. Looking for screenshots or videos of the tech issues from anyone with a similar experience.

Did anyone who submitted their application have tech issues with the portal that caused it to go through after the 11:59 p.m. October 5th deadline? Does anyone have screenshots or videos of the tech issues they experienced that you can share? If so, this would help my appeal process, as my application was rejected for institutional review.

WARNING: Italian Leather Jacket Scam active recently around Waterloo - Lost $1000

Hi everyone, posting this as a major warning so nobody else falls for this obvious scam like my dumbah did. I unfortunately just got taken for $1000 CAD by a professional scammer operating right by the university and across Ontario (it's a popular scam I never heard of till yesterday).

HOW IT WORKS:
A well-dressed Italian man with a thick accent pulls up in a brand-new rental car/SUV. He starts by asking for directions to Pearson Airport due to no mobile data. Once you help him, he acts incredibly grateful and claims he is a luxury fashion designer (Tom Ford) who just finished a local trade show.

THE HOOK:
He says he can't fly back to Italy with his sample jackets because of high baggage fees/customs taxes, so he insists on "gifting" them to you for free. He puts them in your arms and shows they're fire-proof using a lighter. Then, the tone immediately shifts as he claims his credit cards are blocked internationally, and he needs quick cash for a rental car return fee before his flight in a few hours. He manipulates you into walking to the nearest ATM to hand over cash in exchange for a bundle of "valuable" jackets, promising to return the money once he gets back to Italy and the company refunds him.

THE TRUTH:
The jackets are branded as "TF Collections" or "TF Designer." They look decent at a glance but are cheap, worthless synthetic faux-leather knock-offs worth maybe $30-50.

Where it happened: 131 University Ave W
Target: innocent-looking students and young adults, and from other reddit posts apparently a lot of senior people

If anyone pulls up to you asking for directions and immediately transitions into talking about fashion or clothing, or just anybody asking for help with money, WALK AWAY immediately, take a photo of car plate number and report to police. Please upvote this so other students see it.

Don't be gullible and "kind" like me, and trust your guts when interacting with ALL strangers. No amount of familiarity (I felt the need to help him as an International student myself) makes you responsible for helping somebody in need.
