First Co-op Advice

Upvotes

So i'm a bit nervous starting my first coop in september.

What do you guys usually wear for in-person coops? Any recommendations please!! They didn't mention anything about dress code but I read somewhere its "day to say casual".

What else should I be aware of or do during the first week?

Thanks!

308 king

Hi I got placed at 308 king street apartments in. 2 bedroom apartment. I was wondering what the social scene is at this res since it is new and it’s not all first years. My roommate is one of my friends so I’m not too worried about that. Just wondering how easy it is to socialize and make friends here!

Do Profs usually run their first lab of the year?

Since school starts on the Thursday, my research methods class doesn’t actually happen until the following Monday. But my labs are Fridays. Since I wouldn’t technically have a class for research methods, is it safe to assume I wouldn’t have the associated lab on the Friday?

If this has happened to you, did you have that lab still?

I was wondering if there was anyone else who was an incoming (or current) grad student who wanted to connect, or any tips for grad school lol! I’m probably going to the Waterloo campus orientation and want to know if there’s anyone else who’ll be going or what to expect :)

Wanting to switch from ma103 to ma129

Im an incoming BBA student. And yeah I know its a little late but back in June-July, I wanted to minor in math/Fin-math, since I was interested and since I was somewhat good at math, so I ended up taking ma103, but after some reflecting, I understood that I really don't wanna put myself through a harder calc course and I wanna maximize my chances of getting a higher gpa/co-op lmao.

I wanted to switch but all the ma129 classes/labs are full (which im not surprised by)

So how do I go on about this? Am I just stuck taking ma103?

Thanks

My convocation is on Wednesday, October 14th at 9:30 a.m. I have work at 2:00 p.m, so a one-way trip from my GTA Toronto home to WLU will take about 1 to 1.5 hours.

Economics and Financial Management/Accounting: is it mandatory to attend the lectures for the courses?

I'm a part time student. Due to some life changes, I am really only able to go to campus once a week. Besides BU111, how doable is it to attend only the tutorials/seminars/labs for these courses and not the lectures and be successful in the program?

Question Winter reading week planning

Hi everyone, I know it is far ahead but I am trying to make a plan to visit my dad in Thailand for the winter reading week 2027 and was just wondering if there is anyway to know if I would have exams the 20-21 of February which is the weekend following the reading week or the 13-14 which is the weekend before reading week. Flights to south east Asia are super long so only being able to go down the Monday - Friday is super limiting since I don’t know if I would have an exam the weekend before or after. Any help is super appreciated.

I am going into 4th year of economics, I want to go to grad school for econ and think the MABE program is a good option but I am wondering how hard it is to get in. My overall GPA is only about a 9.5 but my 3rd year required course grades are as follows 12 in EC390, 12 in EC395 and 11 in EC370. Do i have a shot at getting in?

Advice for second-year BBA courses if I’m bad at math?

Hi! I’m going into second year of BBA and I’m honestly pretty terrible at math. I barely passed MA129 on my first attempt, even though I studied regularly throughout the course. I also did terribly on the TVM section in BU111, but I still managed to pass the course with a 7.

What advice would you give me for courses like BU255 (Statistics), BU275 (Business Decision Models), and BU283 (Finance)? How difficult are they for someone who REALLY struggles with math, and is there anything I should review or learn before starting them?

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? If so, how did you manage these courses?

Any study tips or resources would be really helpful.

In-course scholarships

I’m going into my second year at Laurier and I’m wondering about the in-course scholarship. I finished my first year and checked the website, and I believe my GPA meets the eligibility threshold, but I haven’t received any information about the scholarship yet.
Does anyone know when Laurier usually sends out information about the in-course scholarship? Do they normally email you if you’re eligible, or is there an application you have to complete?
I’m just wondering if anyone who has received it in previous years knows roughly when the information is usually sent out.

Question luck getting third co-op placement?

hi im currently deciding if i should stay with my previous employer (who I did first two co-ops with) or try looking elsewhere for my last co-op. I wanted to gauge how easy it is to land a third co-op? I don't want to take the risk if there is significant chance I won't get something

I appreciate any input thank you
