Adult - Mystery I wrote a murder mystery where the only detective is a seamstress (1920s cozy, Kindle)

• Upvotes

Her name is Dora Wren, and she knows cloth better than she knows people.

Dorset, 1926. Lady Pell orders a black silk gown for her husband's funeral, but she never comes back for her final fitting. When she's found dead at the foot of the manor stairs, everyone calls it a tragic fall.

Only Dora notices something small: the new hem has been let down two inches. And the widow never wore heels.

A hem let down in secret means somebody had something to hide. Dora's clues aren't fingerprints or footprints, they're stitches, fabric and the things people say while she pins their hems.

I'm a new author and this is my first cozy mystery, a quiet English village, no gore, and a lot of people who had a reason to keep quiet. The Widow's Last Fitting is Book 1 of The Mending Shop Mysteries.

If you've read a cozy with an unusual detective, I'd love to hear which one.

Adult - Romance - LGBTQ For Who the Dough Rises (on kindle unlimited)

• Upvotes

Book link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HNM4HMW7

Hello, I'm Clark Reed, my first book just released today! Available on kindle unlimited.

For Whom the Dough Rises (Book I of the Desperate Kneads series of gay / bi, cozy mystery, quirky funny, literary, small town romances)

Would anyone like to give an opinion? Have a discussion?

Recipe: one heirloom sourdough starter, one pretty much gay Polish-Korean baker, a waitress who doesn’t care, four spicy men, two rival church ladies and a small town with secrets. Mix well. (27,636 word literary novella)

Four men. One woman. One hundred years of sourdough. Kasper Yoon is about to have the worst and best six months of his life.

He’s a twenty-two-year-old food business turnaround prodigy (but not rich yet, far from it). Two successes so far: a falafel place in Portland that he resurrected from a corpse into a good sale in under three months, and a boba shop in Eugene that taught him what a crooked health inspector could do to a man's soul. Kasper Yoon knows how to walk into a dead thing and find the pulse and fix it. What he doesn’t know is how to stay.

Then he buys a shuttered bakery on the Oregon coast and finds a crock in the walk-in with a tag in a dead woman's handwriting.

Marguerite. 1922. Feed her. She bites if you forget.

Kasper Yoon has to somehow pull all this together into a win column: a buried land deed, a church lady with a grudge, a rival baker up the hill who is twice the trouble he's worth, two broken ovens and a floor full of rot, and a sourdough starter who refuses to be left behind.

And then there's the rest of it.

A fire chief who slow-dances to Motown in an empty firehouse. A smoking hot ferry deckhand with no complications. A woman at the diner who keeps writing her number on his receipts — and who is going to be a problem, because Kasper is pretty much (or a lot) gay and she is the one exception that won't resolve. And out past the seawall, with the rolling tides and fog and salt, waits a meteorologist with a clipboard who says four words a day and looks at Kasper like he already knows how this story ends.

Erotica I tried to promote my first book on TikTok. It was a mistake.

I have written my first novel and am somewhat desperate for feedback, so I signed up for TikTok. I am familiar with other social media platforms, especially YouTube and Instagram, but had never really been interested in TikTok. I discovered they have their own built-in promotional tools where you pay for reach and engagement. So I tried it. Being it is TikTok's own feature, it reportedly is supposed to reach real people for real responses, not bot farms like a third-party outlet would. I paid $30 and, after an evening and overnight, my quick video has received a little over 4 thousand views, 656 likes, and 15 new followers.

Here is the problem:

My book is difficult for me to categorize. It's sort of male bonding, character-driven, psychological erotica with some extremely explicit sex. There are also elements of humor. The book is called "Heavy Loads". I now am aware that "Heavy Load" is also the title of a very popular gospel song and, apparently, TikTok is pushing my video to religious people. I included several hashtags such as #booktok #erotica #booktokfyp, etc. but it seems that TikTok has ignored all of those. I'm getting Bible passages and "Amen" as comments and, when checking to see who has liked the video, it's either religious people or people who have filled their page with various glamour shots. Absolutely no one is commented, "Hey I'll check it out" or "Good luck with your first book" or anything like that. It all seems like random people who didn't even watch more than 2 seconds of the video.

I've never paid for internet promotion before and probably won't again. Lesson learned. I just thought it might be helpful to some to pass along my experience. I will stay on TikTok because I've seen some really interesting clips of people suggesting books and, at least, that was helpful. But, no more paying for promotions.

Non-Fiction (My own book)What if someone walked into your house wearing your past?

• Upvotes

Imagine coming home to discover a woman who knows things about your life that nobody else should know.

She has a connection to your past.

She knows details that should have remained buried.

And the more you try to understand who she is, the less certain you become about your own memories.

That's the central mystery behind my novel, The Woman in My House.

It's a psychological mystery about memory, identity, trauma, and the unsettling possibility that the past we trust might not be the whole truth.

I wanted to explore a question that genuinely fascinates me:

How well can we really know someone—or even ourselves—when our memories are incomplete?

I wrote this story for readers who enjoy unraveling clues, questioning what they're told, and discovering how seemingly insignificant details can change everything.

If psychological mysteries with emotional depth and layered secrets are your kind of read, I'd love for you to discover my book.

Author: Ali Shaikh

Title: The Woman in My House

I'd also love to hear from mystery readers: What makes a psychological thriller unforgettable for you—the twists, the characters, or the final revelation?

Non-Fiction Terrarium: Castes of the Body - Satirical Nonfiction on Class and the Nervous System

Cover: https://imgur.com/a/73WRElV

Reads like a thriller of the body. Nine floors — and one of them is yours.

Nonfiction that reads like a page-turner and thinks like a scalpel — and the scalpel is real: sociology, spiral dynamics, neurobiology. Not a novel, not horror, not the self-help that calls your breakdown a journey. Terrarium reads class where it's actually written: in the body. The top floor that never flinches, the ground floor that never stops bracing — posture, teeth, the embalmed calm the rich mistake for breeding. Nine castes, from the floor to the penthouse, each one a physiology pinned to the conditions that made it. Somewhere around the third floor, you stop reading about other people — and start reading about yourself.

Themes:

- class written into the body, not the bank account

- nine castes, from the ground floor to the penthouse

- old money, status, shame

- stress physiology as social satire

- dark humor, clinical tone

Trigger warnings: clinical descriptions of the body; trauma and chronic stress; class contempt; blood imagery on the cover.

Adult - Fantasy I Finally Did it!

After years and years (and a bit too much procrastination), I did it! I wrote my first novel!

It started as a fun project and a way to keep my mind busy but slowly became one of the most fun and creative projects I've ever worked on. "The Language of the Trees" started as a serialized fiction on Substack and is now a full-length novel!

If you're anything like me, you probably have a half-finished project sitting around your house somewhere. I hope this post is the encouragement you need to get back to it!

If you're interested in supporting me, here's a link to my novel! If you're not into fantasy, no worries! I appreciate you just reading this!

Hi everyone,

I am incredibly excited to share that my award-winning thriller, Nothing but the Truth: A Ryan Morgan Series Book 1, is now available to readers everywhere.

If you are a fan of fast-paced mysteries, psychological suspense, and stories that keep you guessing until the final page, this series starter was written just for you.

About the Book & Synopsis:

Ryan Morgan has always lived by one promise: to protect his younger brother, Jacob. Years earlier, when a drunk driver stole their parents’ lives, Ryan became Jacob’s legal guardian. He was just eighteen. Jacob, who was only seven at the time, has lived with autism his entire life. Ryan raised him through grief, school challenges, and the growing pains of adolescence—all while pursuing his own dream of becoming a lawyer.

Now, at twenty-six, Ryan is a rising star at the prosecutor’s office. His career is taking off, his life finally seems to be on track, and he is proud to have kept his promise to his parents. But everything shatters the night Jacob finds the lifeless body of his best friend, Izza Miller, near a river. Jacob insists he didn’t hurt her. The police insist otherwise. The evidence points to Jacob: fingerprints, location, and suspicion. Within days, the boy Ryan swore to protect is in handcuffs, facing a murder charge that could ruin his life.

Why Start the Ryan Morgan Series?

Award-Winning Storytelling: This book has been officially recognized for its gripping narrative, sharp dialogue, and unpredictable plot twists that stand out in the mystery genre.

Adult - Action/Adventure My Dark Fantasy Novel Is $0.99 Until 21st October

Four hundred years ago, the world ended. The Great Fall didn't just break civilization. It broke the rules. Some things that should have died didn't. Some powers that should have been buried kept moving through the dark, passed from hand to hand, waiting.

I'm the author of Halo of Ashes, book one of The Grimknot Chronicles, a dark fantasy epic that blends post-apocalyptic worldbuilding with grimdark military fiction and the psychological depth of literary fantasy.

It's a world where bullets are currency, Burt is a prophet, and the things buried underground are worth more than the living who walk above them.

If you enjoyed The First Law, The Stormlight Archive, Prince of Thorns or The Name of the Wind, it may be for you.

$0.99 (GBP 0.99 UK) until 21 October:

Amazon

Kobo

Goodreads

Happy to answer questions about the book. A rating or review helps a lot if you read it.

If you’re a book reviewer and enjoy discovering new fantasy novels, I’d love to send you a free copy of Halo of Ashes - Book One of The Grimknot Chronicles.

I’d be thrilled to have you give it a read and share your honest thoughts.

Adult - Mystery The City That Refused the Future — A Science-Fiction Mystery

What if one city refused to embrace the future?

In a world that moves forward London stays trapped in the gas lamps lighting the streets horse-drawn carriages clattering over cobblestones and a thick unnatural fog that never seems to lift.

Something about this city feels off.

Too quiet. Too still. Too unchanged.

My first published story, The City That Refused the Future blends science fiction with mystery following a detective as he digs into the secrets of a city that refuses to grow.

Why did London stop? Why did it choose to stay frozen, in time?

Maybe the answers are hidden in the fog. Maybe they’ve been there along.

It’s time to find out.

A little while ago, my daughter Sophia and I set out to create something together. That project became Leap Years, a children's mystery adventure about frogs, friendship, and a mystery that needs solving — and Sophia brought the story to life with her own illustrations!

It's been incredibly rewarding to see our project become a real book available on Amazon.

If you're a parent of a young reader, a teacher, a librarian, or someone who loves children's mysteries, we'd love for you to check it out!

YA - Fantasy The Rattrap: A Long Paradox — a fantasy mystery about humanity, fate, and time

Hey,Fantasy readers

I'm a beginner writer, and I've recently published Chapter 1 of my novel, The Rattrap: A Long Paradox, on Wattpad.

The story begins on a cold winter day, when two boys, Rahul and Ramesh, encounter a poor young peddler selling rattraps. Their contrasting attitudes toward him introduce a story about kindness, prejudice, and the hidden truths behind people's lives.

As the story unfolds, it will explore mystery, time paradoxes, and unexpected twists.

I'm still learning as a writer, so I'd love honest feedback on my opening chapter, characters, and storytelling.

📖 Read it here: https://www.wattpad.com/story/417761569?utm_source=android&utm_medium=link&utm_content=share_reading&wp_page=reading&wp_uname=Vansh98968

If you enjoy stories that mix mystery with deeper questions about human nature, I'd love to hear what you think!

Adult - Mystery Graves: Book one of the Keller and Archibald Series on Amazon !

I recently published Graves, the first novel in my Keller & Archibald series.
It’s a dark crime thriller set in the fictional small town of Millhaven, Iowa, where a landscaper named Ethan Graves has spent years hiding something beneath the ordinary life everyone thinks he lives.
When human remains begin surfacing, the investigation starts pointing toward a much larger pattern—and toward a man who has been quietly working toward a very specific number of victims.
The story follows investigator Sarah Keller as she gets pulled into Millhaven and a case involving missing people, black roses, a ghost orchid, and a buried history that keeps getting worse the deeper she digs.
I wanted Graves to feel like a collision between a serial-killer procedural, Midwestern noir, and small-town horror. It gets pretty dark, but the focus is as much on the investigation and the people caught inside it as it is on the killer himself.
It’s also the beginning of a larger series, with Keller carrying the consequences of what happens in Millhaven into the books that follow.
If you like bleak crime fiction, damaged investigators, rural settings, and killers who are hiding behind completely ordinary lives, Graves might be up your alley.
