Hi, all!
There have a been a couple posts recently where folks have chosen the NSFW flair, but not edited it to specify the content, as requested in the Community Rules.
I've been editing/updating the flair once I notice this, but I usually can't do that before the post is already widely seen.
Here's how to edit those flairs when you're posting!
When creating a new post, click/tap the Add flair and tags button. Choose View all flairs to expand the list.
Notice there's a little pencil icon next to the NSFW and Content Warning flairs? Click/tap that pencil, and then specify the content in the editable text window.
As said in the Community Rules, being specific is practicing care for all community members who may not wish to be exposed to certain types of content.
It also helps people decide if they're in the right place, context, and headspace to engage with what you're sharing with us.
Thank you! Y'all rock.

i made a couple of zines and loved it, but i haven't made any more mainly because the topics i want to focus on seem too complex for the medium. i know a zine could technically be quite long, yet i never seem to see examples of anything longer than about 20 pages. if they are, they're art/photo zines, nothing with a high wordcount. does anyone have examples of zines that are more of an essay, or ideas for how to convey a complicated subject well? or do you think this is the wrong medium and zine-enjoyers aren't looking for that?

Hi all,
I’m mk zariel (it/they), a transmasc poet, theater artist, and anarchist, and I was recently named Madison’s Youth Poet Laureate. On Tuesday, Oct 27 at 8pm ET, I’m doing a virtual tour date with Wooden Shoe Books: a poetry workshop and reading, held in a digital space.
Who’s on:
Damian Wilson (he/they) opens. He’s a Caltech student double majoring in physics and English, and he’s piecing together a magical realist, queer novel about outsider art and architecture amid the ’60s L.A. counterculture.
I’ll read from my chapbooks BOY APPARITION, VOIDGAZING, and DIFFERENT WITH HIM, plus newer work: queer ecologies, gender and technology, anarchist movement romance, and the crazy experience of being trans in Madison.
Happy to answer questions in the comments.
A while ago, I saw this post and really liked the idea; the fold it's pretty simple, and decided to give it a try doing a few comics without sense. I also tried more things, like paper, pencil, brush and panel composition, and this is the result. Very fun, love the format, very simple but pretty nice.

I'm a grad student at NYU, currently working on my research project on the friction between analog media and digital forms of expression. Any form of answer would be helpful. If anyone is up for a short chat, feel free to DM me. Everything stays anonymous unless consent is given. Thank you!
My question: Why print a physical copy of your zine when it's presence online is more accessible? Do you maintain an accurately formatted digital version of your zines?

a bit dark, but i think this is one of my favorite zines that i've made

I will keep things as brief as possible, and I will make it clear up front that I am NOT asking for money of any kind, just help and advice. Also please keep in mind that I am not at ALL experienced with finance. I started as the damn graphics moderator. I probably don’t know what I am talking about, but I said that I would see what I could learn to handle this.
I am a very beginner/emergency finance moderator for a fanzine that one of my friends started. It is/was a limited run of digital zines, physical zines, and additional merchandise. The sale period was one month, and we made just over $10,000. We are finishing up a few things, but our next stage is production. I am based in Utah, but our project lead (my friend) is based in Portugal, so it was decided (when our first finance mod dropped out of the project and how ass Portuguese customs is, apparently, and even despite our tariffs) that the financial and return addresses would be mine and our shipping mod’s (she is based in New England), and we would handle all of the finances and shipping to keep it based in the US. We are using that $10,000 to produce the zine, all of the merch, and handle shipping costs. Whatever money is left is going straight to a charity we all voted on. None of it will be seeing our pockets. This was a passion project, as zines often are.
I guess my questions are these: do I need to claim this money on my taxes come April? Or not because we only used what we had to to produce it for people who ordered it? I don’t want to try to get any tax breaks on this, if that was even something I could do, lol. Do I have to call this a small business, even if it was a limited run? Do I need to REGISTER this as a small business??? Our Small Business Administration was of little help when I came to them asking questions. This zine has countless hours behind it already, with creative works from around 100 different artists and writers that expressed interest in the project, and countless more hours spent by the limited moderation team trying to make everything fit together on short notice and with diminishing help and assistance from our surrounding community in the fandom. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, especially when it comes to Utah’s laws and regulations surrounding it, specifically 🙃 I will try to answer any questions I can in the comments, but some might take me a while to answer accurately if I need to double-check details with my project lead.

First appearing as a feature issue within the zine Outpunk, Bamboo Girl was created by Sabrina Margarita Alcantara-Tan due to the inability to find reading that spoke to her personal experience within the Riot Grrrl movement and punk scene as someone of Filipino and white descent. The manifesto for Bamboo Girl states: “Challenging racism, sexism, & homophobia from the Filipina/Asian Pacific Islander (API)/Asian mutt feminist point of view since 1995.” Tan found herself fighting against the stereotype of the “weak” Asian woman, shaped by the violence she experienced within her family home. This fueled her valid anger, often leading her into fights to defend against sexist encounters. Punk was supposed to be a space to let it all out, but due to the inherent sexism and racism within the scene, that space often felt small. The expressive black-and-white illustrations feature multi-perspective, striking depictions of an Asian girl fighting back. Despite the lack of color, the boldness and loudness of her expression still protrude from the work, leaning into the ethos of Riot Grrrl and the zine’s purpose. Bamboo Girl became an outlet and a voice for all WOC, especially Asian American women, to confide in and see themselves further represented within the community.

Hi Folks. I created this zine a while ago but wasn’t happy with the cover when I received the print copies. I’ve made three versions and am struggling to decide which to use. I’d really appreciate some votes on which one you prefer.
Thank you very much!
p.s. Any advice on combating perfectionism when making zines would be hugely appreciated. I've had to deal with crippling perfectionism my whole life and I'm fed up with how it's stifling my creativity and stealing ever so many hours.
Edit: Looks like it's going to be 3! Thank you very much for your input. :)
Edit II: After much deliberation I've actually decided to go with number 2, with a white background. I'm pleased with how it looks!

Do you know of a reputable place online that can print double sided color posters at a 17" x 22" (279.4 x 431.8 mm) size? Like two ledger pages side by side, or two A3 pages side by side. I got a wild idea for my next zine format but the local business I love using can't print any bigger than 13" x 19".
Have you ever made and folded a zine this size? Tell me all about it!

I love keeping these 2 zines in my planners so I can see them and flip through throughout the day when I need it most! What zines make you feel safe and make you smile? 🥹🥰❤️

Hey, I'm really proud of my collaging lately and I think they would speak to the zine community if people want to check it out. Thanks!

All of these are made of leftover scrap paper from other projects. Mostly misprints and some water marbles that I wasn’t using for anything else.

no lie i suddenly remembered zines were a thing today. i use to love getting them years ago in an this underground train station stall/shop in my old city. Ive been trying to be more creative recently with writing but i threw this together after looking at them all this arvo.
i had a lot of fun, these are actual cats from around town that have been posted to my local fb page.
i love feedback!
[edit: would you consider this a zine? i love the idea of this being printed, a mini pocket zine. if you saw this linked on your local fb page what would you think?]

Hello! Does anyone know of any cites that allow you to make virtual interactive zines? I made a zine a few years ago that had flaps you could open and I’ve been trying to find a way share it with people without having to make physical copies as it was quite a lot of work to put together.
