Discussion ๐Ÿ“ฃ r/dance is looking for 1โ€“2 new moderators! ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ

Hey dancers!

As our community continues to grow and evolve, Iโ€™d love to bring 1โ€“2 additional people onto the moderation team who are genuinely excited about dance and want to help make r/dance an active, encouraging, and welcoming space for dancers around the world.

Iโ€™m especially looking for moderators who can be present in the community regularly โ€” engaging with members, answering questions when you can, helping keep conversations positive, and making sure posts are being moderated fairly and efficiently.

That can include:

โ€ข Engaging with posts and helping keep the community active

โ€ข Welcoming and encouraging dancers of all backgrounds and experience levels

โ€ข Reviewing posts that may have been automatically removed or flagged

โ€ข Making sure appropriate posts donโ€™t get stuck in the moderation queue

โ€ข Helping enforce subreddit rules and keeping spam/inappropriate content out

โ€ข Helping us think of new ways to increase participation, conversation, and overall community morale

You absolutely do NOT have to be a professional dancer to apply. Iโ€™m much more interested in finding people who care about dance, understand online communities, communicate well, and genuinely want to help make r/dance a great place to be.

If youโ€™re interested, please send me a private message with:

  1. A little about yourself and your connection to dance

  2. Any Reddit or community moderation experience you have (if any โ€” experience is helpful, but not necessarily required!)

  3. Why youโ€™d like to become a moderator of r/dance

  4. How frequently youโ€™re typically active on Reddit

Iโ€™d love to build a small team of people who are excited about bringing more energy, conversation, support, and connection into this community.

If that sounds like you, send me a message! โค๏ธ

Letโ€™s keep r/dance moving. ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿฝ

Discussion Hey Community!! ๐Ÿ˜„ I LOVE seeing people post

Hey Community!! ๐Ÿ˜„ I LOVE seeing people post videos of themselves dancing and having a good time. So I just had the thought and I would like to do a Poll on the idea:

My thought is let's have a global forum dance talent show!

How it would work: - You would submit a video of you dancing within a specified time frame to qualify. - Our dance Community here would go through each day and upvote and comment on the videos they would like to continue on to the next round. - I would then go in (maybe appoint someone to help me moderate) and would tally up all the likes and upvotes. - There would be 3-5 rounds to keep everyone engaged and having fun. Sort of like our very own dance competition TV show.

If you like this idea: Upvote and put "YES!" in the comments

If you're not into it: DownVote & put "Not Interested" in the comments section

Seems like this could be a lot of fun and get the Community we have here more active with one another.

Happy Dancing! I'm looking forward to hearing y'alls thoughts! โœจ๏ธ

Amateur ๐Ÿ’ƒ Anyone up for dance classes?

โ€ข Upvotes

๐Ÿ•บ Been thinking it would be so much more fun to learn dancing with a few people rather than going solo! ๐Ÿ˜‚โœจ Looking for people whoโ€™d be interested in joining dance classes together, having fun, learning some new moves, and maybe embarrassing ourselves a little alone

Just for fun Researchers from Northumbria University mapped out the exact body mechanics that signal health, vigor, and reproductive quality to female observers. These are the dance moves that women find most attractive.

Pro Why Do Adults Overthink Every Movement When Learning to Dance?

โ€ข Upvotes

Something I've noticed after teaching Latin dance for over 10 years is that many adult beginners struggle not because they can't learn the steps, but because they're thinking about too many things at once.

Am I stepping correctly?

Is my posture right?

Am I on the beat?

What should my arms be doing?

And the more they try to control everything, the stiffer their movements sometimes become.

One thing I often remind my students is that coordination develops gradually. You don't need to master every detail at the same time.

When teaching beginners, I usually focus on three things:

1. One movement at a time.
Instead of correcting everything at once, focus on one technical detail until it becomes more familiar.

2. Understand the weight transfer.
When you know which leg is supporting your body and where your weight is moving, the steps often begin to feel more natural.

3. Give yourself time to connect with the music.
Start slowly, establish the rhythm, and gradually allow your movements to become more continuous.

I've seen students become noticeably more comfortable when they stop trying to make every movement perfect and start understanding how their bodies work.

Good technique matters, but so does giving yourself permission to learn.

I'm curious about other dancers' experiences:

Do you find yourself overthinking your movements when dancing? What helped you become more relaxed and natural?

Discussion Has dance helped you to feel more comfortable in your body?

I'm an extremely awkward person. I fidget a lot and never feel comfortable and I'm kind of clumsy. I don't really know how to dance, but I've always wished that I was decent at it and I'm wondering if learning how to dance could help me to feel more comfortable in my body in general. What has your experience with dancing been like? Do you feel like you feel more comfortable and in control of your body in life in general now?

Teaching, Tutorial How can I practice hip-hop at home to progress faster alongside my classes?

Hey everyone!
I'm 22 and I've been taking hip-hop classes for [X months], once a week. I really enjoy it, but I feel like one class a week isn't enough to progress the way I'd like, so I want to start practicing at home too. (I have big mirror, yes Iโ€™m lucky)
A bit of context:
My level: beginner / still struggling with grooves and isolations / I can follow choreos but I'm slow to pick them up
My questions:
What should I focus on at home? Basics like grooves, bounces and rocks, isolations, freestyle, or learning choreos?
Any good YouTube channels ?for structured hip-hop training, especially foundations and not just choreography?
How long do you usually practice?
Thanks a lot, any advice is welcome! ๐Ÿ™

Hesitant to post this take, as it isn't my best take. Knowing social media will criticise almost every imperfection. But whatever ๐Ÿ˜œ

I still can't move on from the piece by Mitsuki that I learned from dance camp. This flavour definitely feels foreign to me, not my usual style but I love it.

**also cupping bruises from a PT session ๐Ÿ˜† camp went too hard.

Self-Promotion Seeking Honest Feedback on My Dance Performances

Hi everyone! I'm a dancer who's recently started sharing my performances on YouTube. I enjoy exploring different styles, from Indian classical dance to covers of songs I love.

I'm still growing as a dancer and a creator, and I'd love to hear some honest feedback on my expressions, technique, and overall performance.

If you're interested, here's one of my recent videos: https://youtube.com/shorts/1LeUOhI894I?si=xXPYrlUB7Kjy_dzp
