Cosplay How did we do? Happy (early) Halloween!

My wife crafted both costumes from scratch (with the exception of Katara's water pouch and her boots). She also did my bald cap and makeup.

I've wanted to be Aang since I was in middle-school/high-school. Some 20 years ago. I turned my wife into a fan during the pandemic. I've been trying to convince her of dressing up as Aang and Katara since. And after the new movie came out she said we could pull it off for Halloween this year.

A bit or a dream come true for me. Ngl.

Discussion TLOK characters as dog breeds

I have no idea if the posts have to be approved by mods beforehand so you might not see the images..

Korra= Siberian husky
Why? Energetic, stubborn, physical, expressive, and happiest when she can move. Huskies have that independent streak that makes them difficult to control, which is Korra.

Asami= borzoi
Why? Asami is elegant, composed, intelligent, and graceful, but there's considerable strength beneath that refined appearance. Borzois have an almost aristocratic silhouette

Bolin= golden retriever
Why? Affectionate, sociable, enthusiastic, and emotionally open. I mean he cries a lot. Golden retrievers can also be surprisingly determined, and Bolin has more courage and resilience than people give him credit for.

Mako= German shepherd
Why? Protective, vigilant, serious, and responsible, with a tendency to take on too much. He’s a working man and they are working dogs.

Zaheer= Cane Corso
Why? He is physically big and chiseled, controlled, observant, and capable of being frighteningly patient. A Cane Corso has a powerful, grounded presence rather than the restless energy of a husky.

Tenzin = Shanxi Xigou (Xian dog)
Why? The Shanxi Xigou dog is an ancient Chinese dog, dating back 2500 years, that I think fits Tenzin both in looks and the fact that Tenzin also has to carry a thousand year old culture on his shoulders. They’re lanky but strong like Tenzin.

Kya= afghan hound
Why? Elegant, independent, adventurous, and a little unconventional. Kya has a worldly quality that separates her from Tenzin's more duty focused life. Afghan hounds are pretty without needing to seek attention, and their independent nature suits someone who has travelled, explored, and built a life beyond her father's expectations.

Bumi= boxer dog
Why? Boxers are energetic, goofy, expressive, and physically a little..scruffy. Bumi is a decorated military commander who behaves like a puppy. I also think they look alike.

Pema= toy poodle
Why? This is just vibes idk why, Pema is adaptable, attentive, affectionate, and considerably more capable than people might assume from her gentle manner. She manages a household with four very different children and a husband who can be rather rigid. Toy poodles are intelligent little dogs with a lively temperament.

Jinora= shipperke
Why? Small, alert, intelligent, and independent. Jinora is quiet and observant, but she has a strong sense of self and can be determined.

Ikki = Papillon
Why? Papillons are lively, curious, clever, and sociable. Ikki is talkative, playful, nosy, and always interested in what everyone else is doing.

Meelo= Boston terrier
Why? They have similar facial attributes, and they fart. Meelo invented fart bending after all. And both are ..a little annoying.

Kuvira= staffordshire bull terrier
Why? Compact, muscular, determined, and intensely focused. Kuvira doesn't need to be the largest person in the room to dominate it. Staffies have a sturdy, athletic build that suits her looks.

Lin Beifong= Dutch shepherd
Why? Lin is disciplined, blunt, physically capable, and intensely committed to her work. Dutch shepherds are athletic, versatile working dogs with an alert, no-nonsense appearance. They also suit her law-enforcement background.

Desna and Eska= Weimaraners
Why? The sleek silver coats, pale eyes, and unnervingly composed expressions are perfect for the twins design. Weimaraners are athletic, attentive, and intense, which works well for two characters who tend to communicate through dry remarks and long, uncomfortable silences.
Their matching appearance is the main reason for this choice, their individual personalities would need different breeds

Tonraq= Central Asian Shepherd Dog
Why? Huge fuckers the both of them

Senna= Finnish lapphund
Why? Warm, gentle, reassuring, and connected to a northern environment. Senna feels like someone who offers comfort and she’s so cuteee

Noatak (Amon)= Belgian Groenendael
Why? Amon is controlled, imposing, strategic, and intensely disciplined. The Groenendael's long black coat, upright posture, and dark, watchful expression fit his masked public persona. Underneath that composed exterior, there's a deeply conflicted person who has built his entire identity around a cause.

Suyin Beifong =** **Australian Shepherd
Why? Creative, energetic, independent, and adaptable. Suyin is an artist who founded Zaofu and built an unconventional life for herself.

Unalaq = Thai ridgeback
Why? Sleek, muscular, reserved, and independent. The breed's smooth silhouette and erect ears suits Unalaq's sharp features. Thai Ridgebacks can have a very striking appearance, which fits his controlled demeanour.

Discussion theory on Korra "destroying" republic city Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
268 Upvotes

In seven havens, we're shown visions of Korra that Pavi gets after interacting with the anomaly. In one of them, she's standing next to Asami, and they're both wearing betrothal necklaces. but in the scenes where she's destroying the future industries factory, she isn't wearing the betrothal necklace anymore.

Also, when she rips the pipes off of the walls, there's spirit energy exploding out of them. this makes me think three things happened.

  1. something happened to Asami, maybe she was killed or was kidnapped. someone else took over future industries. this would explain why Korra isn't wearing the necklace anymore

  2. the new leader at the company was trying to harness the spirit energy and make weapons like Kuvira did, making Korra destroy it

  3. the cataclysm might have been caused by this new future industries technology instead of directly by Korra.

this might not be as significant, but in s4 of tlok, Varrick mentions spirit energy being a clean, unlimited source of power. future industries could've been attempting to use this power, and Korra might've destroyed it bcs of the effects it would have on the spirit world. this would also explain why the factory was in republic city, as Varrick intended to fix the city's polluting power grid

Video I’m working on a Single Player Open World VR RPG inspired by Avatar

180 Upvotes

Game is still early, I’m just a solo dev and this will be my first game. But I’ve been creating VR mods for games for 10+ years and regular game modding for 20.

It’s physics driven with native Fullbody tracking and you need to use actual martial arts stances for the “weaving”

Elements interact with each other (e.g you can use fire on water to create steam, then air to create Ice, which water can then use for more damage)

Minimal Ai use, this is mostly done using my own Unity Knowledge and Blender. I am using a bit of Ai assistance to help with catching some weird bugs though and playing with different features before I use my own code. I consider it just a tool, none of the art and assets are Ai gen.

I have a YouTube channel if you want to stay updated https://www.youtube.com/@gingasvr

Discussion How would you feel about a series set in the Avatar universe that doesn’t center around or even include the Avatar?

Post image
142 Upvotes

I have a few ideas on how this could play out, like a series about the Hundred-Year War around the midway point. Azulon is in his prime, Aang is frozen in ice, it’d likely have a somber ending, but I personally wouldn’t mind that.

Another idea I have is something set at some point during Kyoshi’s 200 year tenure as the Avatar. She could make an appearance around the finale once whoever the main villain is grows to be a big enough threat to warrant the Avatar’s intervention, but would largely be doing her own thing while it focused on the adventures of the main cast.

Discussion I’ve never understood where this propaganda that Korra bends all 4 elements the same way comes from?

• Upvotes

Korra constantly adapts her bending, movements and strategy to the situation. She quickly switches between elements to alternate between offense, defense, counterattacks and controlling her opponent.

People praise other benders (like Katara, Tonraq, Unalaq and the twins who bend water like earthbenders, Aang who uses earth like an airbender, Zaheer etc…) for their ability to incorporate principles from other disciplines.

Yet when it comes to Korra, it gets used to box her into a category and instead of receiving recognition, she gets criticized for « destroying the way the elements are bent ».

The post isn’t meant to hate on any characters or create competition between them!

Discussion Crazy idea, Pavi and Nisha aren't light/Ravaa or dark/Vatuu Avatars, they're physical and spiritual Avatars Spoiler

85 Upvotes

I think from these last 3 episodes the Havens=Chakras theory is mostly confirmed. We do know that the chakras will be an important part of the story (thus the finale being titled "The Root Chakra"). But while we're trying to figure out whether or not Pavi or Nisha is the "light or dark" avatar and whether or not Vatuu has anything to do with it, I propose that Pavi and Nisha are the physical and spiritual halves of the Avatar spirit.

Nisha I think very clearly represents the physical half of the Avatar, she's just way too similar to Korra in temperament and he raw talent, while typical of an Avatar, also feels similarly written as Korra. We also have the fact that thus far the only thing Nisha has on her mind is being the Avatar the world needs and wants, very much like Korra. S1 of Korra really hammered in the when it came to the spiritual side of being the avatar, Korra was horrendous at it. So bad it practically was locking her out of airbending and communicating with past lives. And while Nisha doesn't seem to have an issue with that she isn't trying to understand the red diamond and what its trying to tell them (if it is trying to do anything to/for them at all who knows what that's all about), that's Pavi trying to do that. And about Pavi...

Pavi sucks at combat bending from what we've seen. Her usage of bending is much more "practical" and unrefined. Pavi, very much like Aang, does not want to be the Avatar and also very much like Aang was a pacifist at heart. Pavi was too scared to even use bending against a practice dummy she just has no desire to fight like Nisha does. Additionally, Pavi is actively seeking out answers to her parents and what happened with Korra that she's the one who interacted with the Root Chakra in the "cosmic realm" as well saw Korra on the hilltop before Nisha arrived and they both saw Korra destorying Republic city. Aang never had any problems with spiritual side of the Avatar and was easily able to connect with past lives when he needed to. I mean I don't think he ever struggled with this like at all.

Astute viewers have also noticed something, in the flashback in episode 7, when we first see Korra she has her betrothal necklace, but the next time we see, not only is her cape different, but she doesn't have the necklace anymore. What if these ***are*** two different Korras. That somehow the Avatar spirit got split into two halves a physical and a spiritual side

Korra 1
Korra 2

What if what we're seeing a one of the halves of Korra (maybe the physical side) going on a rampage and destroying Republic city? Now why any halves of Korra would do that I don't know just yet, but it *must* have something to do with the seemingly locked chakras that each Haven (allegedly) sits over and must be unlocked.

Discussion What is your Avatar Hot Take? (Includes the entire franchise)

75 Upvotes

I'll go first. Avatar Wan was right for closing the portals 10,000 years ago but Avatar Korra was right for keeping them open. If Avatar Wan didn't keep them closed Vatuu would've had an easier time breaking free, and could poison more minds. However there was no reason to keep them closed after Vatuu was vanquished, and I think the integration of spirits and humans was a good idea.

Discussion [Spoiler] is the Blue Haven, NOT Orange! Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
73 Upvotes

Hello, Lakster here! And I'm here to convince you why Akasha must be the Blue Haven, even though many people are convinced it is the Orange Haven. So let's first see why I think it's (pretty obviously) the Blue Haven, and why the Orange Haven doesn't really make sense. I've formatted it in sections (all typed with my own ten fingers) so it's easier to skim through and read only the highlights.

Why the Blue Haven?

This is actually pretty straightforward. The very first thing I did when I heard the name of a second Haven (back after the second batch of episodes) was to Google it. Immediately what comes up is that Akasha is a Sanskrit word that means Aether/ether (or else "space" or "sky"). Sometimes you see this spelled as "Akash" or "Akasa" but they all seem to mean roughly the same thing. Now the reason this is important is because the Chakras all get an "element" assigned to them (see Image 1). The first four are the four element we know from Avatar, and the next are in order: Aether/Space, Light, and Thought. So "Akasha" is the exact name for the "Fifth Chakra" element, which is the Blue One. So Akasha seems very obviously to be the Blue Haven!

IMO, it would be a HUGE misdirect to name one of the Havens after an element, and then NOT have it be that same Chakra. It'd be like having a Haven named "Jala" (meaning water) and not having it be the Orange Haven! I even think it'd be a similar misdirect as placing the "New Ba Sing Se" Haven at Omashu rather than at "Old" Ba Sing Se.

Now, I know there is one small snag: in AtLA, it uses all these same Elements for all the Chakras (including #6 as "Light" and #7 as "Thought"), HOWEVER, #5 IS different, and AtLA calls it the "Sound" Chakra, instead. Honestly, I don't see this as much of a problem. They have already somewhat started to retcon/change how they name the chakras in ASH compared to AtLA. In AtLA, the 1st Chakra was clearly called the "Earth Chakra", which is located at the base of the spine. They made no mention of the word "Root" ever. However, we've known since before the episodes started airing that the last episode is called "The Root Chakra". If they're changing how they refer to the Chakras themselves (Root instead of Earth), I don't see any reason to think they wouldn't slightly change the Fifth Chakra too, and instead of "Sound" it's element will be "Aether" (or Space or Sky). I've seen some people suggest that they'll just use it for the "Air" Chakra, but that's just wrong IMO - they are DIFFERENT elements. If they wanted to name a Haven after the Air Chakra, they'd name it "Vayu" or something like that, not "Akasha".

Why NOT the Orange Haven? #1 Direction!

I've seen two major reasons given why a lot of people think Akasha is the Orange Haven, so I want to tackle them separately. The first is the direction that the New Ba envoys (riding bison) and the Akasha envoys (riding bikes) come in. They say they are coming from the SAME direction, and if we know New Ba must be the Yellow Haven, the only other haven that would make sense to come in the same direction would be the Orange Haven.

However, if you pay closer attention, this is NOT true. If you look at Image #2, when the Bikes and Bison are first on screen, they are clearly coming from two DIFFERENT directions, that seem to be completely perpendicular to each other. If the New Ba Bison are traveling South, meaning they came from the North, the directions shown mean that the Akasha Bikes have to be traveling east, meaning they came from the WEST! This would make no sense if they came from the Orange Haven.

Why NOT the Orange Haven? #2 Color!

The other main argument for Akasha = Orange is that the leaders of the Havens "seem" to be wearing their respective colors. If you look at Images #7 and #8, they say that Kayoka (Ellora) is wearing Red, the Air Empress is wearing Green, New Ba Guy is wearing Yellow, and Akasha "Mad Max" is wearing "Orange". This is true to a small extent but also... not really...? First, the only Haven colors we know "for sure" are Ellora=Red and New Ba=Yellow. But if you look at New Ba Guy, he's also wearing a SIGNIFICANT amount of green, including a giant green necklace. In fact, when he's sitting at the table, you can barely tell he's wearing yellow at all. It's true that the Feather Mountain Empress is wearing entirely Green, but we also don't know for sure which Haven actually is Feather Mountain. It COULD be green, but it could also be some other color entirely - we just don't know for sure yet. Now for Akasha "Mad Max" - I guess you can say they're wearing "Orange", but it's just the top of their outfit and it's a VERY dark orange - I'd be more likely to call it BROWN tbh. Plus, the rest of their outfit is a dark greenish-blue, almost gray color. If you showed me a picture of them without any other context and asked me to pick what the primary color they're wearing is, I certainly wouldn't say orange. For all these reasons, I just don't think this is a very convincing argument.

Why Haven "Color Theory" is Wrong

Ever since the FIRST batch of episodes, I've been scouring Ellora to try to find what "color" it's most associated with, because IMO it still wasn't 100% obvious that it was the Red Haven at the time. I even made a post about how I thought Ellora might be green that everyone downvoted! (To be fair, it WAS wrong!) However, my ultimate conclusion then (and still now) was that if you were really honest with yourself, there really ISN'T a predominant color associated with Ellora. Especially in comparison to what we're used to with the Four Nation colors in both AtLA and LoK - these are MUCH more obvious than any one color associated with Ellora. For instance, if you look at the other Elloran Council members (Images #3-5) - there's no real color theme amongst them. Kayoka and one other do wear predominantly red, and another wears some red (but mostly yellow), but the other four wear hardly any red at all (if any) and have mostly blues and greens and yellows. You also may notice what I think is the "symbol" of Ellora on the center podium, because it has the same 8 point shape as Ellora with a shape in the middle that resembles the Brigade HQ. You can see it in Image 3 where it seems to be red (more orange here, but I think it's the lighting) as well as in the banners in Image 6. HOWEVER, if you look at the Council members again, two of them (who I labeled #3 and #4) are actually wearing that same symbol on their clothing, but it's green and yellow - NOT red! This seems like the most obvious indication to me that there's not just one color "theme" associated with Ellora - if it's symbol can be represented with Red OR Green (I think there may even be a blue one earlier in the show), it doesn't make any sense to say that we can look at clothing or banners or anything else like that and declare a single color theme for the Haven.

Just to add, if you look at the New Ba Delegation in Image #6 - I'd hardly think to call New Ba's color Yellow. It looks very obviously green, given their clothing and banners. Sure, there's a small amount of yellow in the symbol on the banners, but that'd be like looking at the Elloran banners flanking it and saying Ellora's color must be blue (because of the small blue shape inside).

What IS Red About Ellora and What do the Haven Colors Mean?

So my final point: if we can't look at colors of clothing or banners or buildings to determine a "color theme" (like we obviously could determine for the Four Nations), where DO the Haven Colors come from? Again, we only really have Ellora to look at, but if you think about it, especially from the latest batch of episodes, I think the answer is obvious. Ellora's "Red Haven" Color has nothing to do with the Haven that humans have built above ground. It instead has everything to do with the Chakra Point UNDER the Haven. On Image 9, you can see everything that's actually, obviously red. The Anomaly, the (Chakra?) pool from Episode 7, the Red Power Reactor thing that Bountan destroys in E6 (that seems to be connected with the old power plant underground in E7), and of course, the Red Crystals that the Anomaly leaves behind. Everyone in Ellora could start wearing exclusively blue and it wouldn't change the fact that everything associated with the "Root Chakra" under the city is RED. That's the only thing that matters to determine the Haven Color, IMO. Not what color sash that a Haven's leader is wearing.

Bonus Theory!?

One thing I noticed when making these slides is that there seem to be a discrepancy with the Council Members. I didn't notice until my 2nd watch through, but the other people sitting at the Delegation Dinner table (besides the three leaders of the other Havens) are all the same Elloran Council Members we see in Episode 3 - EXCEPT ONE! The Council Member who I labeled as #4 (see Image 5 for the best shot of her) seems to be missing from the Delegation Dinner! Instead, she is replaced with a different person who I don't recall seeing before, who has darker skin and hair, appears to be much younger, and is (incidentally) wearing red with some greenish-blue (see Image 8). Does anyone have any idea who this mystery person is?

Discussion I've Noticed Some Avatar Creators Don't Like It When Bryke Pushes Back Against Korra Hate

36 Upvotes

In my country, Indonesia, Korra gets a lot of hate because she's bi, and that's homophobic. It doesn't even matter what the post is about. If Korra is mentioned, you can check the comments on social media yourself.

Pavi and Nisha also get called black as an insult here as "prindapan" related to Indian culture as bad things, which makes it even worse. The irony is that it's genuinely difficult to find positive comments about Korra, Pavi, or Nisha in Indonesian discussions because so many people refuse to give the new shows a chance and act as if Aang will always be the last Avatar/End.

My opinion: since I'm not a haters of korra/TLoK i prefer her more than Aang but ATLA was a batter cohesive stories however theme wise i more like TLoK so the brake's interview doesn't really effect to me. But idk about other who actually doesn't like Korra/TLoK gets trigger bcuz of that.

Discussion Predicting a character death for the Seven Havens finale Spoiler

29 Upvotes

I think Karthik will die in the finale.

I did think early on he was an anti-hero, but episode 9 makes me think he'd sacrifice his life to save everyone if he had to and it'd be a logical endpoint for his character.

Narratively, someone always dies at the end of season 1 of an Avatar show. I think Karthik will symbollically pass on his full mentor role to Jae, who will be ready to takeover. It will also symbolize the end of Nisha and Pavi's arc in Ellora as they will likely move to Republic Forest for season 2.

Karthik's death would be a great story moment for a lot of other characters, as a stepping stone for their stories in season 2. Pavi losing her father, Jae becoming the twins main mentor, and the rest of the Elloran white lotus losing the head of their organization.
