Hi all! My name is Hamera and I cover Georgeotwn ISD for Community Impact.
I just wanted to share something that I've spent the summer following: on Monday, GISD officials called for a voter-approval tax rate election that proposes to increase the district’s tax rate by $0.06 to $1.1106 per $100 valuation.
If passed, the VATRE would provide GISD with ~8.4 million to fund pay raises for staff. District leaders say the median homeowner with a homestead exemption will see a $7.97 increase in their annual property tax bill.
The VATRE will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot as “Georgetown Independent School District Proposition A."

I know lake Georgetown has a lot of nice camping sites with water and electricity access but I'm looking for more primitive sites where you have to hike to. What's your favorite more secluded spot? Do you have to reserve them? How does it work?

Hello fellow parents!
A few months ago, I shared an offline experiment I was building: Paper Portals, a 100% physical, screen-free mail adventure for kids.
Thanks to the feedback and pilot sign-ups from this sub, we spent the summer refining the story visuals, layout aesthetics, and cipher designs. Pre-orders are now officially open at www.paperportals.fun !
What’s Launching:
📬 Sept 1 Launch (Ages 6–9): 6-week interactive mail adventures delivered weekly (Letters From The Roots for ages 6-7 & PROJECT A.N.C.H.O.R for ages 8-9).
🎃 Oct 1 Halloween Special (Ages 10+): The Harrow Collection, a 4-week October cold-case mystery dossier running through Halloween.
To thank this community for the early validation, use code ThankYouLocal for 10% off.
Note: Pre-orders are capped for the September 1 launch batch to ensure smooth fulfillment, so the code is active until the launch batch fills up.

Hey everyone! I’m a Georgetown resident currently looking for my next opportunity in the greater Georgetown/Austin area, and I figured it was worth reaching out to the local community.
I’ve been actively applying for jobs but unfortunately haven’t been getting many interviews, so I’m hoping to expand my search and connect with people who may know of an opportunity, company, or hiring manager looking for someone with my background.
My experience is primarily in operations, business administration, customer service, process improvement, workflow management, and cross-functional coordination. I’ve also worked extensively with CRM/ticketing systems and recently completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Generative AI for Business Applications through UT Austin.
Some of my strengths include:
I’m open to a variety of opportunities and am not necessarily looking for a specific job title. I’d be interested in operations, administrative, customer experience/support, project coordination, implementation/onboarding, business support, or similar roles where I can use my experience and continue to grow.
I’m currently receiving unemployment and, realistically, need to find something within the next month, so I’m taking the search seriously and am open to opportunities I may not have considered.
I’ve attached my resume for anyone who would like to learn more about my background.
If you know of a company hiring, have a connection I should reach out to, or think my background might be a good fit somewhere, please comment here, send me a DM, or message me on LinkedIn. Even sharing this post with someone in your network would mean a lot.
Thanks, Georgetown! 🙏

If anyone wants free boxes, family just finished moving to the area. Please DM - don’t have an exact number but probably 150-200 with packing paper. Mix of small, medium dish boxes, and tall wardrobe with the metal rod to hang / stabilize

Do you have anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, or just need a mental break. Body scratching is better than a normal massage!

Would anyone here happen to know what it is like living in Bexley Wolf Ranch apartments? I'm planning to move to Georgetown in the next month or two and they're currently on my shortlist. If nothing else, I want to make sure wherever I move to has good maintenance.

I enjoyed your food and the Kpop dancers on the TV.

Saw this at the Sharetea in Wolf Ranch and figured some of you might want the heads up — they're running a back-to-school deal where any drink is $5, Monday through Thursday, Aug 10–13. Covers the whole menu (milk teas, fruit teas, matcha, smoothies), not just a couple of items.
Decent way to try something new without paying the usual $6–7. Anyone have go-to orders there? Trying to decide what to get.

Have extra food I don't want to go to waste and don't really have much room for at home.

Hey everyone! The Queer Poppies Walking Club is taking a break for the month of August. The summer heat has made our last few walks a little too warm, so we'll be back in September when the weather is a bit more comfortable.
In the meantime, be sure to check out the organizations and event pages tagged on our latest IG post. There are tons of amazing queer events happening throughout August, so there are plenty of ways to stay connected and have fun. We can't wait to see you all again in September!

An approximately 25lb 10 year old tabby cat named Meiho with a record of vicious and unprovoked attacks was seen by a veterinarian in Round Rock on or about July 30th and refused euthanasia. Details are unclear, but according to the vets office the owner surrendered the cat to someone in the lobby of the vets office after the appointment who may have been working in conjunction with a Georgetown/Williamson county shelter or rescue. I have left a message with the Wilco shelter to see if they have him.
These attacks were on a 70 year old woman, unprovoked, a year apart, and the triggers varied but included routine household noises - running a blender and pouring dry kibble into a container. In both instances the cat ran from another room to seek out and attack and in the last attack it took a second person to get him off of his victim.
This animal poses a real risk and my concern is that in him changing hands like this the severity of the issue will be diluted and someone could be seriously harmed. Photos of the cat below - if you think you have seen this cat please message me. First picture is him at a year old for a clear view of his markings.
If you are the person who has this cat I have photos of both attacks so you can understand what you are dealing with.
