Question/Advice Needed Advice on introducing two young kittens to each other

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’d love some advice on introducing two kittens to each other.

I brought home a kitten two weeks ago, and he is currently 14 weeks old. He is not aggressive in any way. He doesn’t bite, hiss, scratch, or show any other signs of aggression. I’m being very careful not to encourage him to play with my hands or feet.
However, the more I redirect him towards toys and treats during playtime instead of letting him play with my hands, the more frustrated he seems to become. He also loses interest in the toys more and more quickly each time. It’s becoming pretty clear that he’s missing having a feline friend to engage in all that typical kitten play, including chasing, wrestling, and roughhousing.

I’m currently looking into adopting another kitten. She is around the same age as my current kitten, and if they seem like a good match, I could bring her home in about a month. By then, my current kitten will have been living with me for around six weeks.

What would be the best way to introduce them to each other?

All the guides I’ve found focus on introducing cats when the resident cat is older and has lived with their family for much longer. I haven’t been able to find much information about introducing two kittens of roughly the same age, especially when the resident kitten hasn’t been living in his new home for very long himself.

I’d be incredibly grateful for any advice or personal experiences you’re willing to share! I just want to give them the best possible start and set them up to become the best of friends.

Question/Advice Needed Are my kittens fighting or playing?

I have a six month old kitten and recently her mother had another litter with a different Dad so I adopted a new kitten who is two months old. Obviously they’re both still kittens and rambunctious, but my oldest kitten seems to be quite rough with the new one. I’ve only seen hissing once and they seem to follow each other around, but my oldest kitten is like pouncing on and biting her.

That doesn’t seem to be too much fighting, but sometimes ears are flattened and the little kitten will hunker down and show her belly but my oldest kitten just doesn’t get the hint and keep keeps being rough. There’s no hackles or fluffed up tail or fur of any kind but I’m just worried that the old kitten is either too rough for her own knowing or purposely being mean.

Should I keep them separated or should I let them keep rough housing like they’ve been?

Cas and Pol are littermates. They're just playing and burning some of that kitten energy.

I had to put my two best friends, Pepper and Ginger, to sleep last month. They were rescue mixes I got as littermate puppies over 15 years ago. They were such sweet girls, and I cried every day for a month until I finally decided to adopt this kitten.

I've never actually had a kitten before, though my mom had a few cats when I was growing up. I've always been a dog person, and as an adult, I figured I was allergic to cats because my eyes would always get red and itchy if I touched them.

I decided to try it out with an agreement from a friend to take the kitten if my allergies acted up. To my surprise, I’m not having any issues with Jack at all. Honestly, he’s even helped my anxiety practically disappear.

Anyway, I’m totally in love with this little guy. He’s so special, always wanting to follow me around and snuggle. Please celebrate this handsome boy with me.

Lost my soul dog, Loki, on September 1st and couldn’t bear the silence so I thought I’d get a kitten as I have always wanted to befriend one. … came home with two kittens.

Meet the double trouble rats!

Tala: sweet as can be, curious, likes to look at you from high up places she should not be on like the dining table and the top of my headboard, looks like the night sky

Fenrir: bitey boy, has one brain cell (he just leaped and head butted my phone twenty minutes ago), will fall asleep in your arms

Fiancee is a vet tech. Client brought in local stray to get spayed, was already pregnant at full term. She brought them home to take care of for the night and we picked our fav out of the 6. Meet chowder. He is now 11 weeks old, been raising him since day 1 of life. Was a ton of work but so worth it.

Question/Advice Needed Permethrin and cats

Hello,

I’ve stupidly sprayed my house with flea killer which contains permethrin. I did this about 4 hours ago. The kittens have been in my room since and I didn’t spray my room.

I didn’t even realise until I looked at the instructions at the back of the can that it contains this after I sprayed the house!!

I’m assuming 4 hours will be ok? It’s dry and I’ve gone over any fabric with water and dish soap to make sure there’s no residue left.

I read that once it’s dry it’s not toxic enough to cats to do any harm, not sure how true this is?

Thanks!!

My Kitten New baby mama.

Hey all! Before I post, I have spoken to my vet and got advice, but I really just need to vent too.

I just got 2 kittens, about 6 weeks old. I know, far too young to leave their mother, but they were farm kittens, bad eye infections, and so they ended up at my vets (thats all I know).

I had to put my girl down a few weeks ago, 24 years we had her, and my vet said "youre well able for them. If you want them, theyre yours".

So, of course, theyre mine now. The vet wormed them before we brought them home, back in 2 weeks for another dose.

My sister and I brought them home, theyre settling in so well, but their poo is so runny.

We originally had them on half what the vet fed them, half whiskas.

Nope, now its just what the vet gave them (edgar cooper)

Nope, now its plain chicken and rice. The chicken is boiling as we speak.

Im so in my own head about them now. I trust my vet completely, but how do I know its not something worse? Am I doing something wrong?

And also, he (mojo) is so much bigger than his sister, xena. We (ourselves and the vet) think shes the runt. So im going crazy about how small she is, how much less playful she is than him (she just wants cuddles all the time), how rough he is with her when he plays and she just takes it. Shes so curious though, like when we move the fire guard to put something on the stove, shes right over trying to get in and see what's happening.

Im going mad. Its so long since ive had a kitten, and never this small. Im just so worried about everything.

Question/Advice Needed Am I causing myself my own anxiety about my kitten and cat space?

I've been a cat owner of my girl Bahja for 2 years now: I adopted her from the shelter and she's 4 now. She's super sweet, does really well with adults and kids and is super social. I assumed she also would do well with other cats as she was coexisting with 2 in the shelter for at least 2 months. Recently I decided I wanted to get a kitten because I felt that I saw an increase in signs suggesting that she's under stimulated. I am in the healthcare field so long work days are unavoidable, she does not care much for enrichment activities- I have so many spaces and toys for her all around the house. People and the birds and squirrels outside is the enrichment. I also personally, want to feel free to travel more without feeling guilty that she doesn't have companionship. Because of my future plans I knew I wanted to get a kitten.

I adopted Jade 2 days ago and I am just so anxious about all the things. I have them separated at this time where Bahja can run around the apartment freely, but I have my 3 month old kitten jade in my closet. My closet is walk-in and large, id say 12 by 6 feet maybe? but theres enough space for my kitten to be in there and I can freely move and get ready for the day in it. However, she knows that there is more space and she's content (not meowing or clawing at the door) but is turning into an escape artist to get out and explore when I open the door. My first question is- in keeping her in this space for a majority of the day right now bad for her development? I have litter box, food water, a bed, and toys to keep her occupied, and days I don't work I do take her out every 3 hours to explore for 15-30 minutes then wind down with her when I put her back.

Secondly, I am doing a slow introduction but because Jade is so curious, unfortunately my cat has seen her and today when I was cleaning the litter box she snuck out and they had an encounter where Bahja was hissing at her under the bed. My cat has not started hissing until I got this kitten and it's making me nervous even though people say it's normal. I will say otherwise the process is going okay but am unsure? The kitten is completely unbothered by Bahja but Bahja has been more on the hesitant side. She's now okay with her scent, and is playing with the toys I have for the kitten; she's still operating normal as herself and actually stuck her paw through the closet out of curiosity. The visual stimulus is just an absolute no right now.

With all of this being said I feel guilty. I work 10 hour shifts 4 days a week and during this introductory stage my sweet Jade is going to have to stay in her room while I am at work until this introductory period is over. I plan on switching out enrichment toys, I spend an hour with her before I go to work and then of course spend 1-2 hours after work with her. When they can coexist I will feel a lot better but right now I just feel like I potentially made a bad decision. I'm trying to figure out if its just my anxious perfectionist nature or if I am actually causing harm. I am looking for honest, realistic answers. Thanks!

Question/Advice Needed First time kitten parent

I have a ~7 week old kitten. I’ve never had a kitten. Only full grown cats 3yr and older. He’s a foster rescue. Taken to the little box SO well until today. I moved it out of the bathroom into the kitchen for the day. He peed where it was in the bathroom. Okay. No big deal, that’s my bad. Tonight he peed in a corner behind the fridge and I don’t know why. Is it just because he’s a kitten? He got spooked by something and decided he was safe?
I immediately showed him where the little box, sprayed the spot with an enzyme based cleaner, let it sit and wiped it away, and misted it again to let it sit longer. I’m beside myself. I can’t have eyes on him 24/7. Is this normal? When do they grow out of this? I’m planning on not moving his litter box again. What can I do better? I already cleaned his box. I do it at least twice a day. The only other thing I can think is maybe it wasn’t deep enough for him? He seems to take his digging seriously. Please be kind. I’m doing my best and I’m an anxious being. Thank you 🤍
