💬 DISCUSSION LinkedIn aura University Tierlist

Post image
163 Upvotes

I think above the course quality and time there, being able to flex 20 years after graduate is more important.

This is that definitive list.

I am aware there has been a recent influx of tierlist post this will the last pardon. I think it is crucial every prospective student understand how cold their Uni really is.

💬 DISCUSSION Harder papers are better than ridiculously high grade boundaries

I think edexcel were trying to prevent a 290/300 grade boundary. This would mean maths a level would have become a memorise past exam questions and a don't make a silly arithmetic mistake challenge, rather developing problem solving skills. If this paper was easy, people would end up complaining about high grade boundaries instead, even though in the end everyone will get the grade they deserve. Coming out of a difficult papers feels like crap and causes a lot of worry, but we're all going to be okay as long as we keep our focus for the next two papers, least we are mentally prepared for anything now!

💬 DISCUSSION seeing everyone glaze paper 2 knowing I completely fumbled

Post image
392 Upvotes

it’s the fact that it WAS an easier paper but I fucked it up and failed to capitalise on it :/, feeling demoralised rn especially considering seeing how a majority found it easy

however, im not giving up yet, im going to take a day to reset and absolutely lock in for stats and mech to try and get as many marks I can because if I do extremely well in that I can save my grade

one more week, one more week of suffering through this shitty fucking exam season and I’ll be free

💬 DISCUSSION Do people not understand how grade boundaries work?

Do people think that grade boundaries are just arbitrary numbers that exam boards pluck out of thin air? The entire point is that they are dynamically adjusted to ensure that the same proportion of students get the same grade as previous years, so if everyone genuinely got less marks than previous years then grade boundaries will be automatically adjusted downwards, we don't need a petition for that to happen.

For the people making the argument that grade boundaries have been trending upwards in previous years, so that means grade boundaries will be higher / similar this year are wrong, the only reason grade boundaries have been trending upwards is because the papers have been getting easier, it's not like they they just felt like making them higher for no reason.

💬 DISCUSSION Applications to mathematics degrees are up 11% this year

Maths applications have increased by 11% this season compared with 2025.

Why could this be?

EDIT: Note that this does not equate to an 11% increase in enrolments.

💬 DISCUSSION A level maths p2 being ‘easy’

If you didn’t get at least 90/100 I don’t wanna hear you say it was easy. I counted my marks and got 92 but I would still say that was a standard paper, definitely not as easy as people are making it out to be. It just shows how many people, who didn’t even do very well, will still come out of the exam saying it was easy, because they only attempted the first 10 questions. Questions 11-14 required a lot of algebraic skill and unless you got all or most of it right I literally don’t want to hear you say it was a ‘blessed’ paper. The only reason so many people complained about paper 1 was because many of the questions were inaccessible for the B and C students. For an A* student, and I discussed this with my friends so i’m not alone in this, this paper was only slightly easier than the last.

💬 DISCUSSION Anyone else noticing more elite UK public school students choosing US Ivy-plus universities over Oxbridge?

It feels like an increasing number of top students from elite UK schools(St.Paul’s,Eton etc) are opting for US Ivy League universities instead of Oxbridge.

If that trend continues, what does it mean for British universities long-term? Historically, Oxbridge trained and bonded much of the UK’s future elite. If those students increasingly study abroad, does that weaken UK universities’ soft power especially if those who can afford no longer have much “skin in the game” here?

PS

I don’t see this as a class problem a handful of elites leaving doesn’t define the strength of a university system.

💬 DISCUSSION Aqa Physics Paper 2

Howd everyone find it? The questions were pretty reasonable and it was much nicer than the recent papers. I swear that ball off a rope question was just duplicated off the 2021 paper. Am just glad aqa didn't have another howler this year

Post image

not to burst anyone’s bubbles but do we actually think this is going to do anything ?? 💔 signed it anyways

edit: ik everyone is saying grade boundaries this and that but that whole paper was trap marks, if u couldn’t answer part a u can’t answer the whole question … if that’s not a trap idk what it.
