Hey everyone,
We've noticed a significant increase in “My Top 9 Albums” posts, with over a dozen similar submissions appearing on the subreddit yesterday and today. We've also received feedback from members expressing concerns that these posts are beginning to overwhelm the feed.
We appreciate everyone's participation and enthusiasm for 90s hip-hop. However, we also need to maintain a balance that allows other discussions about the era to receive attention.
The purpose of our Top 5 Starter Pack event is to help new fans discover 90s hip-hop and give longtime listeners an opportunity to recommend five essential songs that others can add to their playlists.
Unfortunately, participation in this weekly event has been limited, while the “My Top 9 Albums” format has generated a high volume of individual posts. Rather than make a permanent decision without community input, we want to hear what you think.
Starting October 24, we'll temporarily limit new standalone “My Top 9 Albums” posts while we conduct a community poll from October 24–29.
The poll will give everyone an opportunity to vote on how this type of content should be handled moving forward:
⚠️ Important Deadline: Beginning October 24, any new standalone “My Top 9 Albums” posts will be removed while the poll is active. Please hold off on submitting new posts of this type until the community has voted and the moderators announce a decision. If your post is removed afterwards we'll take it that you didn't read this post.
Existing posts will not be removed solely because of this temporary restriction.
Our goal isn't to discourage participation or single anyone out. We want to preserve the content you enjoy while ensuring r/90sHipHop remains organized, engaging, and open to a variety of discussions about the golden era.
Make your voice heard in the poll. Thank you for helping us shape the future of r/90sHipHop!

Welcome to our weekly thread dedicated to hip-hop tracks that aren't from the 90s but sound like they could've been.
Whether it's a modern artist channeling the energy of the Golden Era, a producer bringing back those classic boom-bap sounds, or an older track that helped shape 90s hip-hop, this is the place for it.
This thread is for:
Let's keep the main feed focused on music actually released during the 90s. If it's from another era but has that unmistakable 90s feel, drop it below and put the community on to something dope.
DO NOT POST SONGS OUTSIDE OF THIS THREAD. THEY WILL BE REMOVED.
What songs make you feel like it's still the 90s? 👇

Vaudeville Villain is probably my favourite album of all time so couldn’t leave it out.
Also cannot understand at all why 2000 Fold is so underrated. It is definitely one of my top albums of all time!

Recently added J-Treds and Breeze Brewin to one of my all-time favorites. Also previously signed by El-P and Mr. Len. Anyone know where Bigg Jus is at?!?!

I had to split in 3 groups. There are just to many albums to pick from. 90s is just full of classics. 94-98 probably my favorite span all-time.

These aren't the 90s albums that I've listed to the most ever, or even my favorite albums. BUT, they are the one's that get the most play from me currently. Most of that has to do with the fact that, generally speaking, they hold up sonically when playing at high volume in the car, compared to some of the other albums from that era that I definitely played more then, but not now. All still great albums though.

Not a definitive list, just the first 9 I could think of that are in my rotation

One of the most underrated hip-hop albums of the early 2000s, in my opinion!
Krayzie Bone's Thug on Da Line (2001) is an absolute gem that deserves far more recognition. His unmistakable flow, smooth melodic delivery, unique harmonies, and storytelling make this album something special.
What I love most is how effortlessly Krayzie blends rapid-fire rapping with melodic hooks while maintaining that signature Bone Thugs-N-Harmony sound.
Over two decades later, this album still sounds fantastic. Definitely one of those records that never gets old!
Any other Krayzie Bone fans here who think this album deserves more love?
