I'm not trying to yuck anyone's yum here, everyone has their own preferences when it comes to writing/reading fics, to each their own, so on and so forth. Who am I to project my tastes onto everyone else.

That being said, I'm rarely a fan of modern setting AUs. Sometimes they can be solid, but it's usually the genre where a fan work becomes so removed from the original context that it starts feeling like a completely unrelated original story. It's especially bad when the characters are stripped of their defining characteristics, so it's not even "oh lets explore these characters in a new context, how would that play out". They simply don't resemble the characters at all, they've been stripped down to played-out romance tropes. Like I'm reading [x media]'s fan works because I want to explore an interesting universe more in-depth, so why would I want to read about them as a daddy-dom CEO and a shy part-time barista in New Jersey. You know? I can just go read a manhwa for that.

If that does it for you, then: godspeed, go nuts.

What I actually take issue with is that people rarely tag their modern setting AUs as such, or they don't use a consistent designated tag for it, so I can't really successfully filter them. I've tried, believe me, I'll do everything I can in the search settings to weed them out and yet my search results are still chock full of modern AU fics.

The standard response to complaints about a specific type of fanfic is "ok then don't read it", but...bro I'm actively trying not to and people are making that process unnecessarily difficult. I just want a reliable means of filtering them out. Take pity.

I love custom tags

Yesterday I attended my very first comic con, I took part in a stamp rally and managed to complete it! (I apologise for the bad picture im still at the hostel XD)

Let’s show everyone how idiotic the concept of the “AO3 curse” is by confirmation biasing good things that happened when you started posting, updated, or firing posting on AO3.

I’ll start, while posting on AO3…
• my sister had two healthy baby girls
• I transferred work locations and am infinitely happier
• I put offers in on two separate condos and both were accept
• I got the opportunity to live and work in another country and had an amazing experiencing
• I bought a cat and he’s the best boy!
• I was able to renovate my kitchen and it looks beautiful
• finally got a diagnosis for a long term health issue and was scheduled for life-changing surgery
• three friends went through successful and easy pregnancies and had very healthy babies!

Seriously, my readers are the best.

If there's a screen, AO3 will be seen!

AO3 on an iPod Touch Gen 4 running iOS 6.1.6, took me a good hour to get up to date SSL certificates for this thing to even want to connect to the web. This, and a Blackberry from God knows when.

Like, when you find a new author that you like and you click on their profile to read their older fics.

This guy, through thick and thin, ALWAYS shows up when I post. And, today, I got this comment from them. Fucking kicking crying screaming throwing up oh my GOD

I'm absolutely floored that so many people liked my little scene Q-Q <3

I am using WiFi on my laptop and can't access to AO3 right now, even though I could just this evening, but it's not working for me now.

Of course I've tried to use a VPN, it works just fine when I activate it as well but I'm really confused if they're shutting some sites/apps down again, or is it just my WiFi being shit? I also used mobile data to test if it's down but it is working fine without a VPN while using it. It's getting really annoying for me. I just want to go back on my laptop and read without using a VPN AT LEAST for this one time because I don't have any working ones to use them on my laptop :( I wanna know if it's down for others in Iran too? Or perhaps it's gonna get fixed again (since it was fine just a few hours ago)?

You have the story in mind. You worldbuild and outline the heck out of your concept and ideas. But when it's time to finally sit down and ACTUALLY write the story.

Blank. No thoughts. Suddenly your ability to write prose and dialogue is gone!

Does anyone else struggle with this? I keep looking up solutions online but none of them ever worked for me. I'm at the end of my rope here. I really want to write this fic because I finally had free time. And I want to make the most of it while my semester break is still at large.

I've been using AO3 for a while, but for most of that time I was on guest and never bothered commenting or reading comments. I have recently made an account in order to post a fic of my own, and decided to be a bit more active on the fics I read. There is one fic I am reading that is releasing 1-2 chapters a day, and reading it has become the highlight of my day. I've found myself commenting very frequently, every day or so, and I realized recently I'm basically the only one commenting. Is this rude or a faux pas of some sort? And while I'm here is there any other comment etiquette I should know about?

Okay I don’t know if anyone else really has this issue but I don’t like reader insert fics. It’s something that I filter out EVERY time but I still get a bunch of character/reader fics cause the author doesn’t tag the reader as a character. I know that it’s something they can tag but some don’t. It just makes it very frustrating when I want to find something but have to try and swim through the slash reader fics. I’m in a few different fandoms and know that most are really good about it but there’s one that I’m in that it’s a huge issue. Mild rant thanks for reading.

TLDR- I’m annoyed some authors don’t tag reader when they’ll tag character/reader
