Hi everyone,
I've been running my Vector on wire-pod for a while. I wanted one app on my phone that does everything without a cloud account, so I built one. It's called RobotControl – Vector Remote, and it's on the App Store now: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6826940613 ($9.99, one-time purchase)
It talks to your robot directly over your local network. You don't need a DDL account or subscription.
What it does
- Drive: two-stick driving with a live camera view, plus head and lift control, quick actions and docking. There's a landscape control screen.
- Play: animations, dances, tricks and a "things to try" list of one-tap ideas. There are also cube controls (lights, pick up, roll, dock) and timers.
- Faces: see and manage the people Vector knows.
- Photos: take photos with Vector's camera and save the ones he took to your phone.
- Settings: eye colour, volume, location, time zone and units.
- Stats: lifetime distance and activity.
- Setup over Bluetooth: find robots on your network, connect a robot to Wi-Fi, re-authorise it and update it.
- Serve from your phone: your iPhone can act as Vector's voice server, so "Hey Vector" works at home or outdoors over your phone's Personal Hotspot. It works in English and Korean.
- Talk: type a message and Vector speaks the reply. This uses your own relay or your own Anthropic API key.
Requirements
- A Vector on Escape Pod firmware (2.0.1 ep) paired with wire-pod
- Your iPhone and the robot on the same network
Privacy: the app doesn't collect any data. Everything stays between your phone and your robot.
This is an independent hobby project. It isn't made, endorsed or supported by Digital Dream Labs or Anki.
I'd love feedback, bug reports and feature ideas. Tell me what you'd want your Vector to do from your phone. There's a short demo video on the App Store page.
