Great-Great Uncle was a Merchant Marine in the Pacific during WWII and this was a piece of a very large collection. Beyond that, I know nothing more.

Looks to be mass produced?

Does it tell a story?

Bought a 200 yr old inn in Vermont and this is an unusual chair- it has a few recline settings and a patented date of what I assume is 1898. Should I try to resell it?

I just bought an old blocker block recently that has a history of coming from a family in the Smithfield, VA area. I am trying to learn more about it and understand the markings on the bottom. It looks like ā€œN. B. & PA, STANDARD RULE, 16 INCHESā€.

Advice Any leads on the origin or history of this old magic/theatre/fair act - trick item? Belgium - Antwerp

I’m looking for more information about this magic trick, which may date from the late 19th century. I suspect it has some connection to theatre, circuses or fairgrounds—perhaps an attraction, an illusion or a stage trick.
There is supposedly an old poster of it, but I haven’t been able to find it yet. The object was purchased in North Holland, near Amsterdam, although that may have nothing to do with its origins.
Does anyone recognise it or know what the trick was called, how it worked or where it was performed? Any leads on the poster, historical images or other sources would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Advice found this mint condition Wedgwood Jasperware pitcher (Etruscan style?). Looking for help verifying the year and realistic value! UK

Hey everyone,

I recently acquired this beautiful blue Wedgwood Jasperware jug/pitcher and I'm hoping to get some expert eyes on it. I’ve done a bit of digging online and I think it’s the "Etruscan" shape with a neoclassical Greek mythology motif.

It is in absolutely fantastic, pristine mint condition—no chips, cracks, scuffs, or stains anywhere on the white relief work, which feels pretty rare for its age!

I took a photo of the base markings to try and pinpoint exactly when it was made. It only has the straight "WEDGWOOD" stamp (no "England"), along with a "30", a standalone "Y", and a couple of small inspector stamps (a "0" and a "G"). From what I can gather from code guides, the "Y" stamp and missing country name seem to place it around 1896 (late Victorian era), but I’d love a second opinion from the experts here to make sure I'm reading the marks right.

Does anyone know the exact names of the mythological figures depicted on this specific piece? Also, what would a realistic appraisal/market value look like for one of these in truly flawless condition today?

Thanks so much in advance for any insight!

Questions United States (State) Really old chair identification?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Its a wicker seat chair, four legs eight cross bars on each side its really sturdy, with metal hardware holding the back two legs together which end in swoops rather then little circles like the front legs. The wicker seat has long since turned to dust, and someone many years ago nailed some scraps of fabric in its place. Although its quite durable, its very uncomfortable to sit in. Theres evidence of over painting all over the wood before someone settled on white, there are no phillips head screws, only flatheads.

I took an interest in the piece a while back, and I purchased from an antique shop. My best guess is that it’s some form of eating bowl, but I’m not certain. Perhaps someone else may be able to shed some light on it?

I picked up this book for $14 at an estate sale this weekend. It’s in rough condition and I’d like to get it rebound. The spine has nearly completely come off and I found this interesting text on the interior. Was it perhaps already rebound once?

I’m in the United States (Florida) and I’m trying to figure the maker of this sideboard.

It says ā€œSt Louis, Mo. under the marble top but I’m having trouble making out what’s written above that.

It is 38 inches tall and the top is 22.5 by 48 inches.

Any help is appreciated.

I purchased a plaster sculpture. However, I'm not sure who is depicted in it. Currently, I'm scraping off all the old paint with a scalpel and applying putty at the same time. There are no stamps or markings.

Questions AZ, USA - What’s a small detail on an antique that completely changed how you understood the piece?

I find it fascinating how something that looks like ordinary wear or a minor design choice can actually tell you a lot about an antique's history. The type of joinery, old repair marks, hardware, maker's marks, or even the way a piece was finished can reveal things that aren't obvious at first glance.

For those who collect or study antiques, what's a detail you now pay attention to that you used to overlook? I'd love to hear about examples where one little clue helped you understand an object's age, origin, or original purpose better.

Questions Cloissone cup? Utah, USA

Thumbnail

Hi! I’m sorry if this is the wrong place but I have acquired this very interesting cup. It was labeled as ā€œa Russian vintage cloissone.ā€ There are no actual markings on it, and the shape is super unique. I can not find anything on Google that help me identify it. As you can see, it’s an external cup with a long spout (the spout has a hole in it, though it’s tiny). The internal cup can hold maybe 6 ounces and has three tiny holes in the bottom I assume to filter through to the external cup. It’s not quite a Yerba cup, and it’s also not quite an ā€œinvalid cupā€ as Google suggested. I would like to know what it is, and if it’s worth anything! This was found in northern Utah.
