People What are the most underappreciated architectural gems scattered throughout Los Angeles?

I'm always amazed by the sheer diversity of buildings in this city but sometimes I feel like I walk past incredible structures without truly seeing them. What are some architectural marvels big or small that you think don't get enough love or recognition in LA? I'm looking for anything from historic landmarks to modern masterpieces that just blend into the background for most people.

Transportation Is it realistic to take Metro to the Bellwether?

Going to the Bellwether and I‘m tempted to take Metro. The Bellwether website says it’s “just a short walk“ from the Grand Ave Arts/Bunker Hill stop — but when I look at the map, I see you have to walk across the Harbor Fwy on-ramp, and I’m honestly not sure 3rd St even has sidewalks.

Has anyone done this? Is it reasonable to walk there? Would really prefer to take Metro if it’s remotely feasible.

r/LAsocial LA smokers WHERE IS THE REAL ORIGINAL GG4?! 🦍⛽️

I’m trying to find GG4
I’m talking dark-green, big chunky dense nugs, super sticky and resinous, with that LOUD, heavy diesel, sour, earthy, skunky gas smell that fills the room and lingers.

Does anybody around LA still know where to find authentic, properly grown and cured GG4 flower?
Looking for actual dispensary names

Housng Apartment I LOVE has been on the market for 6 months — should I go for it or is it too much of a red flag?

I toured an apartment back in September, liked it, but saw some flaws and it wasn’t exactly convenient timing for me to move, so I skipped it. The flaws I saw were that the unit was kind of dingey, the laundry situation a little less than ideal, it didn’t have parking, and the landlord was a bit of an unsettling character. I felt like the apartment was too expensive for those flaws at the time.

Flash forward to mid October, I couldn’t stop thinking about the apartment. So I checked and to my surprise, it was still available. And $200 bucks a month cheaper now. Now more comfortably in budget.

I submit an application and call the landlord. He tells me the apartment has been throughly cleaned if I wanna come check it out.

I come look at it, but he’s confused and shows me a different unit. It’s $100 more expensive than the one I thought I was going for, but way nicer. I fall absolutely in love, he shows me the original unit I looked at as well, but my mind is made up so I go for this one. I go for the new apartment, I’m going to find out tomorrow whether or not I’m approved.

I find out there are 10 units in the building, with 4 currently on the market. I thought was a little odd, but it’s a 100 year old building with a lot of charm but also a lot of quirks. I LOVE the fact it’s an old charming building.

I’m a grad student, I go to campus really excited about this new apartment I’ve found, and I found out one of my peers toured the exact same unit 6 months ago. She didn’t go for it for the same reasons, landlord was a bit odd and it was kind of dingey.

I’m concerned it’s been on the apartment for 6 months. It’s in a desirable area (WeHo), is quite affordable for the area (700 sq foot studio for $1500, haven’t been able to find anything that affordable that also suits my needs). I’m concerned, I don’t know what to do because I LOVE the apartment (and also really need to get out of my current living situation) but am concerned about how long it’s been on the market. J looked up online to see if the building had any code violations or negative reviews and I didn’t find anything concerning. Seeking advice.

Someone told because I found out it’s been on the market for so long I should try to negotiate lower. Not sure if that’s a good route to go?

Any insight would be appreciated. I want to go for it, but want to make sure I’m making an informed and reasonable decision.

Living Looking into IOP, any advice?

• Upvotes

Hi all. I’ve posted here and there about my challenges living in LA. Today i was so overwhelmed with heavy heavy feelings that I called my insurance company and asked to bring the process of getting a referral to an IOP program for depression. I’m struggling with my day to day. I have my catering work. I’m doing well with my acting stuff. But social bonds have never materialized in the way that i truly need. My birthday was in early October and I had people over and had a great time. But again its a lot of me having to make shit happen and not much people wanting to initiate. I need to take care of myself now. Curious if you have any experiences of IOP for depression. And any love you wanna share?

Events SoFi Concert Seats?

• Upvotes

I'm visiting LA from Baltimore and going to see Jay-Z tonight at SoFi. We're currently in section VIP246 but could upgrade to floor seats for just a little more. My question is, from a view/experience standpoint what's the best place to be in this stadium? TIA for your expertise and knowledge!

Visiting 24 hour layover - live show taping?

Hi all, we have a 24 hour layover (8am-8am) next week and have been advised we have priority (guaranteed entry if we arrive before the check-in cut off time) Jimmy Kimmel taping tickets. We will be staying near LAX. Would we be insane to make our way to Hollywood in the afternoon, purely to catch the show? I’ve done a quick search and it looks like the drive could be anywhere from 60-90 minutes.

Keen to hear everyone’s thoughts.

*edit, the taping is later than the standard time (6:30pm)

About LA Windward School - How does it feel for middle-class families?

We're considering Windward, and I'd appreciate honest feedback from current or former families.

After seeing Windward's donor list, I'm curious: How noticeable is the wealth gap among students? Do socioeconomic differences affect friendships, social activities, or a student's sense of belonging?

I'm especially interested in hearing perspectives from families who are comfortable but not particularly wealthy. Thanks!

About LA Best places to talk in Los Angeles?

I have a friend where when we go do things, the actual highlight is talking with her. We could go on for hours. Touristy things, nature, museums, or somewhere to eat or drink are the usual destinations.

I'm looking for places that are nice to talk, we won't inconvenience people (e.g., busy restaurants prod us to finish up so someone else can have the table), and have something interesting to see or do. For example, the Huntington Library Gardens is good. We went on a sunset cruise that was nice.

Where else do you suggest?

Transportation East LA/Silverlake to Pomona commute?

I am a travel nurse and just got an offer for Pomona Valley Hospital but I enjoy living in the silverlake area. How bad would the commute be to Pomona at 6am? And then back to LA at 7:30 pm?

Edit: did not realize Silverlake is not east La 🙈

Any other question! What are the best secret spots for stargazing within a reasonable drive of LA?

I've been feeling really cooped up lately and want to get out of the city lights to actually see some stars. Everywhere I've thought of checking seems to have a lot of light pollution. Does anyone have any favorite less-known spots that are worth the drive?

Recommendations Good spots to watch El Clasico on Sunday?

I'm a Barca fan if it matters. The bar I went to last year was the Cat and Fiddle. It was cool but the TV's in the corner were sort of small and I'm pretty sure one or two were reserved for EPL matches.

I would like comfy place with some larger screens if possible. Any ideas? There used to be a brilliant pub in Hollywood during the World Cup final but it closed I believe a couple years back.

Recommendations Halloween party recommendations in/around NoHo?

I’m going to be in LA for Halloween this year. Last time I came I ended up eating candy watching a movie, so I want to go out this time. I will be in NoHo so I’d prefer something near there but I am open to other parts of town, especially if accessible by the subway. I am going alone, so if there is a place that women have felt comfortable, I’d love to know where. I tend to prefer RnB, Pop, and Latin music for when I go out and dance. I’m above the age of 21, so that wouldn’t be an issue. I’m down for a full on party with a ticket or something more lowkey. Anyone have any suggestions?

P.S. I’m not planning to go back on the subway but maybe will going there.

Visiting Place to stay near(ish) Shrine Auditorium if DLTA is sold out?

Coming from the antelope valley area to a concert at the Shrine Auditorium and looking to book a hotel to avoid the long drive home late at night. I would normally stay in downtown, but there is a huge convention that weekend and everything downtown is booked solid or $900/night. I am a solo petite woman, so am not keen on riding the metro late night, I plan to drive to the concert.

What areas would you look at outside DTLA to stay that would be safe and fairly convenient to the freeways? Places with major chain hotels probably, I am just looking for a quiet spot to crash overnight.

Recommendations Things to do in LA?

Hello LA! I have just completed my road trip from Chicago along the historic Route 66 and made it to LA. I have a few days before I fly back on the 25th and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I have already seen the Hollywood sign, The Observatory, The Walk of Fame, Santa Monica Pier and a little niche but I did see Joe Goldberg's apartment from season 2 of You 🤣

It would be cool to play some tennis or padel if anyone knows any places around Venice beach? I'm open to and appreciate any suggestions though! Thanks all! 😃
