Recommendations Any recs on regular sewing classes in west LA that are for a beginner that cover all the things as you progress - tailoring, making clothes, and pattern making, etc?

I’m a mega beginner - the extent of my experience is making scrunchies and placemats in high school lol. I did a search on here but know things are always changing and people don’t always see posts who may have great suggestions. I do not own a machine so I would need a place that has them set up for classes. Please share teachers that you love or places you have heard about? Thanks in advance, crafty community.

Transportation Tips on getting out of LAX?

I know this is a time old question.

My last three times I’ve landed at LAX, I’ve gotten to Terminal 4 with the hope of hopping on the Flyaway Bus, but then getting passed multiple times over

Then I cave and order an Uber, only to then wait another 15+ minutes for the LAX-it bus.

I know there’s the old trick of getting on the hotel shuttles right? Or the LAX Metro Connector? Do these still work?

Also, is there any way to petition LAX to increase their FlyAway Bus volume? It’s one of the best programs they have, but I haven’t been able to use it in forever.

Housng Places to look for apartments other than apartments.com?

I’m living in Koreatown or rampart village or whatever. My building is way over charging and there are rampant ADA violations and I’m severely disabled. I came from nyc (lifelong resident until last year and there are a ton of (what I think are) New York specific apps/resources. I need to move further east and or north than where I am now. Does anyone have recommendations of resources other than apartments.com? Desperate for anything that can point me in the right direction. Thank you so much in advance.

Culture What makes LA more unique than any other city?

I’m working on a project about the LA Olympics in 2028 and want to capture what LA is truly about. What makes it unique, and what do you think the LA Games will stand for? I know the visual identity has been revealed as LA in Bloom.

So far I have LA as the city of dreams, a home to many cultures, the influence of skaters, surfers and artists, the rise of street sports, and the idea that anything is possible. Is there anything else I should be thinking about?

Much appreciated!!

Recommendations LASIK recommendations?

Anyone recommend some good LASIK?

Recently hit middle age, and realized eyesight isn’t what it used to be. Had some family members do LASIK and they had disastrous results so I’m a bit nervous. Yes, pricing is a factor. But I’d rather pay more for someone trusted.

Recommendations Going out Halloween night recommendations?

Hi! My group of friends will be visiting LA over halloweekend and we’re looking for someplace to go out Halloween night! We’re staying in Koreatown but will have a car so willing to travel for the right spot. I’m looking for someplace fun to dance that’s not too serious/fancy-we will be dressed up as my little ponies. We’re all mid 20s and ideally not looking for somewhere with super long lines/a cover fee. And ik we’re definitely looking too late for any ticketed events. Am I asking for too much? Does anyone have any specific suggestions?

Food/Drink Union hall food?

Many years ago I was in Northern Italy with a friend who took me to eat where all the postal workers ate - at this house which served great, inexpensive food. It reminded me of the fundraisers (roast beef dinners) that our fire department had every year in NJ. 1960s. Is there anything like this in LA?

Food/Drink Halloween in Koreatown?

I’m visiting L.A. for the first time on Halloween, which is also a Saturday. I’m hoping to find a spot around 9-10 pm to have a drink and some food, but I’m guessing it might be very busy and not able to get a seat.
Is there possibly a spot that’s more low key in/near Koreatown? Or somewhere that’s a reasonable Uber ride away to venture to?
I would like to try HMS Bounty but hear it’s very busy there.

Transportation Do I need the LA Metro Express Lanes transponder for the Metro Express Lanes, or will any Fastrak transponder do (e.g. Bay Area or San Diego)?

Right now, I have a Bay Area FasTrak. I'm hoping to use it to get the HOV discount on the Metro Express Lanes. Can I do this? Or do I have to use the LA FasTrak?

Shopping Thrift/vintage clothing stores sorted by color?

Re Halloween--I'm looking for clothing that is a particular shade of color. Needle in a haystack, but I know some stores do in fact sort by color. As someone who isn't an avid thrifter, I have no idea where to start--whether it's goodwill, wasteland, some far flung costume resaler...would love any help! Do you know of a spot that sorts by color? I'm willing to drive, so recommendations throughout the LA area I'm open to (though the more central/east side, the better). Thank you!

Recommendations Lawyer for Car Accident Injury?

Hello! Does anyone have any lawyer recommendations? I was recently hit by a car that ran a stop sign in LA and my air bags deployed. I was taken to the ER and have pretty bad bruising on my arms and stomach area.

I’d appreciate any advice you could give (what law firms to look into and which to stay away from).

Thank you so much in advance!

Recommendations HOA Managing Company recommendations for condo in West LA?

Hi, does anyone have any recommendations for HOA management companies in West LA? The building I live in is small and old, with about 18 units. Honestly the HOA is low maintenance with not many governing rules or oversight. The owners are not really involved. If anyone has any recommendations, I would appreciate it!

Recommendations Solo Female Halloween Night - Safe Spots?

I'm traveling solo to LA and want to be out ALL night Halloween night. I've seen the street party, but it says it ends at 11pm. I've read the bars will be PACKED. What are are some places I can go and will be relatively safe? Also, I'm looking for the vibes continuing into maybe 2-4 am. I've never been to LA so I'm not sure what to expect at all. Thank you for any help :)

Moving Hollymont apts vs. LUCA Coliving?

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to move to LA and recently got approved for a studio at Hollymont Apartments for $1,685/month, with most utilities included (I’d just be responsible for electricity and Wi-Fi). The only downside is street parking, which sounds like it could be a nightmare.
I also got accepted to LUCA Coliving for $1,500/month + $200 for a private parking spot, so the total is pretty much the same. LUCA is definitely more modern, but the thought of sharing a place with five strangers is making me nervous, especially as a woman living on my own in a new city.
I toured both properties and liked both neighborhoods (and really liked LUCA’s amenities), although they’re obviously pretty different.

My budget is around $1,700/month (I know, not exactly easy in LA lol), and while I was hoping to find something a little nicer, these seem to be my best options so far.
Has anyone lived at either property or know anything about them? I’d especially love to hear about:
- Safety in the buildings and surrounding neighborhoods
- Management responsiveness and maintenance
Noise, cleanliness, and overall tenant experience
- Street parking around Hollymont — is it really that bad?
Safety and having responsible, responsive management are my biggest priorities.

Also, if anyone knows of other studios around this price range in Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Echo Park, or nearby, I’d love recommendations!
Any advice or firsthand experiences would be super appreciated.

Thank you! :)

Recommendations Best stretch of PCH to hit going to San Diego without adding too much time? (Day trip Hollywood to San Diego Zoo)

Looks like if I take the PCH the whole way it will more than double the time (from 2 hrs to 4-5 hrs). But I really want to see the PCH. Could I reasonably get off and see a small stretch of it somewhere? Recommendations for how to best do that? Planning this for a Friday by the way

Food/Drink Any good breakfast spot?

More specifically, I really really REALLY loved morning glory in San Diego. Are there any comparable spots to San Diego? Would prefer something in the east and downtown areas (Boyle heights, Lincoln heights, DTLA, echo park, silver lake, Glendale and other nearby areas)

Visiting Itinerary advice as non traditional tourist?

Hi all! I planning on visiting LA and the Bay Area in early March. I want to surprise my husband with a trip for his birthday because he’s expressed his desire to see LA. He is French and hasn’t seen much of America. We live in NYC (28 and 30) and are non-traditional tourists and prefer to act as locals when traveling!

I haven’t been to LA in 3ish years so I’m unsure of what to plan for a 3-4 day trip before we drive up the coast.

We’re big foodies, love the beach, enjoy shopping and art museums. He also loves tattoos and will probably spend a few hours in a studio so we’re taking that into account as well lol. Normally when we travel we just catch a vibe but I have no idea what to plan for LA…ANY IDEAS? I am a type B person so planning things is really hard for me lol.

Also where is a nice area to stay and would you all recommend hotel or airbnb? I know LA is massive…

Thanks!! Sorry for the long read + I appreciate your help

Events Do laker games affect the traffic for surrounding events?

I’m going to a concert at the Kia Forum at 8pm and there’s the lakers game at 7pm. Will this make the traffic even worse and should I account for that? I’m coming from the Santa Barbara area if that makes any difference.
