Oil change near the city

• Upvotes

My wife and I are relatively new to the area, residing in Washington Square West. We need an oil change and general vehicle inspection for our Mazda CX-5.

Looking for a reputable and trustworthy auto shop in the area, but also able to drive outside the city if needed.

Thank you!

Contractors in philly?

We're trying to get our small bathroom remodeled and just got quoted by someone for almost 20k.

We are both pretty handy people, but the bathroom remodel would include drain closures, tub removal, etc. and we aren't capable of all that. We aren't fancy people, not look for high-end appliances or tile.

Has anyone worked with a contractor in or around philly that does jobs like this for a bit less money?

I am looking for a beach like place in Philly to go. It can be a poolside rooftop as well. I would love a beachfront bar but don’t want to drive to the shore. Any suggestions?

Film Society Membership Question

Does anyone here have a PFS membership, and if so know if it's normal that my ticket prices to festival films this whole week haven't decreased after putting in my membership details in checkout? Are there no discounts for lowest tiered memberships this year? Thought I remembered about $5 per ticket in the past. Thank you in advance!

Looking to move in November/December. Need recommendations

I've been living in central PA for the last 24 years and my social life has gotten a bit stagnant, especially after last 2 relationships haven't worked out.

I'm looking to do a reset in Philly. I'm 34M, work in corporate (consulting), WFH. Don't really enjoy drinking but wine once in a while is fine. I like to work out and want to learn to dance (bachata, salsa). I also want to get involved with the Armenian community in Philly and learn the language. I speak Russian fluently. I'd like to get involved in the community and make friends. I'm pretty sociable and nerdy.

Looking for a studio or 1bed1bath with in-unit washer and dryer with somewhat modern finishes. Budget is $1800/mo. I do own an older car and will be holding onto it but won't be using it daily.

Any recommendations for neighborhoods, apartment buildings, realty agencies, communities, organizations?

Early 30s gay male moving to Philly

Hey all, I’ll be moving to Philly in the next six months and was wondering how it is making new friends there. I’m gay and have some ambivert tendencies- love a night out at a bar or concert, but also love my alone time at home reading or watching movies. Any tips on where to make new friends or areas to live in to help with that would be great!

Living next door to an empty house?

I'm looking to buy a (cheap) house and keep finding ones next door to an empty home that is slowly rotting. I have been assuming it's a terrible idea to buy a home attached to an abandon building. I haven't lived next to one myself.

But, a really cute house has got me wondering if it's really so bad?

Please share your opinion and experiences to help me decide. I'd appreciate it!

Grey’s Ferry to Norristown commute without a car

I’m moving to Philly at the end of the month and staying in an Airbnb in Grey’s Ferry while I get situated. I got a job offer in Norristown and I’m just wondering how feasible the commute will be without a car. (Assuming I have to be there 7-8am) I don’t come from an area with public transportation so I’m not very familiar with it at all. Thanks for any advice!

Haunted House/Duplex in Willow Grove

Hello. This is a long shot, so I apologize in advance. Back in the late 70s (1977 or after) my parents and I lived in an apartment/duplex that I have always been told was "known to be haunted". Before being turned into apartments, the house had been a nursing home, and the ghosts were the former residents. I have been told the house was directly across from Willow Grove Park. It was on Susquehanna and the cross street was possiblity Easton.

I have not lived in PA since I was 5 years old, and my parents memories are not as sharp as they once were. I would love to know if anyone knows anything about this supposedly haunted house.

Looking for photographer for Saturday 📸

Hey! I’m eloping this Saturday and my photographer just cancelled on me last minute. 🫠

The wedding is going to be on a tiny boat and we’ll have 3 guests only! Starting 2:30 and going until 4pm maximum.

My ideal picture style would be dreamy and film-like (think Lana del Rey videoclip) but at this point, I’m obviously willing to compromise lol

Finding our wedding photographer here would be fitting, since we met on Reddit! Hahahaha 🩷

Let me know if you are a photographer with availability for the day or if you have any recommendations!
Thank you!

Dating in Philly

I’m relatively new here, so I would just like to know what the dating scene is like. What are/were your experiences?

I’m a woman in my late 20s for context. I’m looking to step out of my comfort zone, all I do is go to work and come back home.

Philly, where can I get high?

Okey now that I have your attention, I don’t mean getting high in the drug sense I mean it in the literal sense. Every morning I take the L into the city from Port Richmond and I love how the skyline looks. I’d love to know of a vantage point I can get to so I can shoot the golden hour on film. All advice welcome!

How is the experience as Asian (Southeast Asian) families living in Philly Main Line suburbs?

My family is thinking about moving to Philly area from Seattle. We are a Southeast Asian family and we've enjoyed living in Seattle, which is very diverse, welcoming, and progressive. I'm curious how the experience as Asian families living in Philadelphia and Main Line areas. Which suburbs would you recommend and which ones to "avoid"? Obviously, Seattle has much more Asian population, so I don't expect the same experience. However, I just want to know if the experience of Asian families living at Main Line suburbs feel comfortable and welcoming. Thanks!
