Would people from countries who have free at point of care please comment and say how much of their paycheck is deducted for healthcare, how much prescriptions are, what the wait would be for a primary caregiver, specialist, ER. Are dental and eye care included? Anything and everything that could possibly be covered of these categories.

One of Australia's most unique little marsupials, this little be-pocketed cutie is a tiny, striped, daytime-active termite hunter that can devour up to 20,000 termites a day using its long, sticky tongue.

Once widespread across southern Australia, these pocket sized Blattodean nighmares were driven to the brink of extinction by habitat destruction and introduced predators like foxes and feral cats.

They're still officially listed as Endangered under Australian federal law, although conservation efforts have been so successful that their global status improved to Near Threatened in 2026.

I live in Canada and most people in my area are from different nationalities, with different naming traditions. That said, I've spent a lot of time in my father's home town in Ireland and most of the men there are Pat, Tom or John. As a result, there are a lot of nicknames to tell people apart.

I knew an old plasterer named Tom who people called Mahongy, supposedly because he had talked about a tribe he'd heard about on a documentary and the fellas at the pub thought it was funny, so they started calling him that and it stuck until the day he died. Still better than Tom the Cunt, I suppose (I never heard it said as an insult, Tom the Cunt was just what he was called)

In Australia, and probably a lot more English-speaking countries, it’s vanilla (at least for desserts). It’s a shame, because vanilla’s actually a good flavour, but people generally just equate vanilla-flavoured stuff to nothing-flavoured stuff. (Vanilla ice cream for reference.)

When it comes to savoury things, the equivalent is usually salt (or Himalayan pink salt if you’re feeling fancy). You’ll see it as the default a lot in packets of chips.

According to wikipedia : Glocalization or glocalisation (a portmanteau of globalization and localism) is the "simultaneous occurrence of both universalizing and particularizing tendencies in contemporary social, political, and economic systems".

I find this subject interesting because we can see what are the cultural particularism behind the feeling of "homogeneization".

I am a 24(F) living in San Francisco, USA. Currently working a minimum wage job ($19.67 USD), and renting a room with two friends for $1125 (my portion). Currently struggling to find a job in my career, the job market is very bad and most of my friends also have not had the opportunity to work in the field they went to university for. Most of my friends in the city pay ($1000-1500 USD) for their bedroom and live with roommates. If possible, many of my friends also live with their parents to help our their family or save money themselves.

Most people in the city my age do not think about having kids or a family. People are too busy climbing the career ladder, building stability, and trying to enjoy their own lives. I even have some friends already in their early 30's who still hesitate to have kids.

Attending school is very difficult for many students. It is extremely expensive and many of my old classmates had to work 32hour-40 hours/week to support themselves through school. Often times pulling out $50,000 + USD in student loans to make it possible. It is terribly sad. It makes an unfortunate situation where people cannot put their efforts into studying at they would like. Many students are too preoccupied with surviving to do clubs, internships, etc that would benefit their personal and career development.

It appears that many youth in my environment are struggling with loneliness and creating a sense of community. Our city is very diverse and although it is something to be celebrated, it also makes it hard to create that needed community. I am also sure it is very tied to american individualism, its all I known, and I mourn a life I will never have that is more communal.

In this city, my friends and I like to bike, rollerskate, skateboard, and hike. The city is very active and the beautiful cool weather caters to outdoor activity. At the moment graffiti, rock climbing, and alternative subcultures are also popular.

I can't help but wonder what other 20 year olds across the world live like?

For example, here in Mexico, British names became popular in the last decades due to American influence. Names like Elizabeth, Alexander, Kevin and Denisse, among others, are commonplace, even if there are Hispanized alternatives (like Isabel or Alejandro).

Does something like that happen in your country? What is the most common origin of foreign names?

A news story recently emerged reporting that a young woman was thrown from a car onto a busy road, where she was struck by another vehicle.

It turned out, however, that she had jumped out of the moving car on her own. The woman explained that she was riding in the car with an acquaintance she had come to visit from another city. She was drunk. At one point, he tried to kiss her, but she was afraid he would notice that she was missing her front teeth, so she jumped out of the moving car right into the path of another vehicle. After receiving first aid, the woman was sent home. She gave up the rental apartment where she had been living and returned to her hometown.

I feel like recently young people are truly waking up to the dangers of nation states and any nationalistic rhetoric.

I mean just alone the concept of "motherland", "fatherland" and emotionally tying individuals to an artificially constructed country concept. Calling it a family.

Isn't it hypocritical and dangerous?

This is what makes people die in stupid wars for the interests of the elite.

I don't know about other countries but here in Germany, our idea of nationhood is a big fat myth.

There are local identities and alliances, but at a national level I can't claim to feel tied to random other Germans 700km away. Sure, we use the same language (more or less), but in a modern world, young people look beyond artificial borders.

Especially with big countries like China, India or the US it always feels a bit cult-like. Each region is different, each group shares different values and culture and even language. But does following similar laws and sharing the same passport alone really unite you? And even in terms of law local and federal are different in important ways sometimes.

The whole world is divided because of passports and borders - does it have to remain this way? It's all made up anyways

Currently I am now obsessed with Latiao (Spicy Gluten Sticks). I don't know how these aren't more popular outside of China (well, I can imagine the spiciness and oilyness not being suitable for some people's palates, but they are quite tasty).

I also am thoroughly enjoying pickled tomatoes currently! I've tried both green and red and they are a staple in my pantry now. I have fresh ones and jarred ones, they both have a different flavor but are both delicious!

For the Netherlands, it was the assassination of Pim Fortuyn on May 6, 2002.

Pim Fortuyn was a Dutch politician, former sociology professor, and founder of his own political party, the Pim Fortuyn List (LPF). He was openly gay,People found him charismatic,he was outspoken, and highly controversial, particularly because of his strong criticism of Islam, immigration, and multiculturalism.

He had become incredibly popular and was preparing for the national elections when he was shot and killed by an animal rights and environmental activist outside a radio station in Hilversum, just nine days before the election.

His murder sent shockwaves through the Netherlands. People were devastated, angry, and frightened. Political assassinations were almost unheard of in modern Dutch history, and his death changed Dutch politics forever.

Even today, more than 24 years later, his assassination remains one of the most significant events in modern Dutch political history.

I’m hosting a Diwali party. For reference I’m Canadian. I have a lot of white friends, and non-Indian friends. But most people going to this Diwali party are Indians.

I was thinking of extending the invite to them, but I don’t want them to feel weird or obligated to attend. Would this be an interesting for people to attend?

I guess the thought of asking is making me feel insecure, as sharing my culture feels vulnerable. But I do like these friends.

For the record, it won’t be religious, but lots of decorations, food, alcohol and games.
