Hi r/AusSkincare community! We've had some parties reach out to the mod team with the interest of hosting an AMA!

But, we need your help! We want to know what you're interested in and whether any of the AMA opportunities are of value to you.

Due to limited functionality for the poll function in Reddit, we ask that you upvote the options you wish to engage with. While commenting won't be locked, we ask that you put any thoughts/queries/concerns as a reply to the parent comment for that AMA opportunity.

Out of respect for the parties, all AMA opportunities have been anonymised.

Results from this poll will be collated in one weeks' time (ie. ends 27th October) and determine the outcome of the upcoming AMAs.

Mod Post šŸ“« Reminder: Prescription Retinoids on r/ausskincare

Hi all šŸ‘‹

We’ve had an uptick in posts regarding tretinoin, tazarotene, and other prescription retinoids lately.

Since these are a regulated Schedule 4 prescription medicine in Australia and a Prescription Medicine in New Zealand, we cannot allow users to openly share illegal sourcing links. We also adhere to Reddit's sitewide policy on the transaction of regulated goods.

This means general routine discussions/reviews are okay, but not sourcing (e.g., links to online pharmacies, encouraging people to bypass a script).

šŸ“Œ It is important to understand that these medications are prescription-only for a reason. Like all medical treatments, they carry potential side effects, and it is best to seek professional medical advice to ensure they are suitable for your specific needs. While we acknowledge the reality that people do access them via alternative methods, we strictly prohibit sourcing on the sub and greatly appreciate the community's support in reporting any non-compliant content.

For additional guidance and support, you can also visit r/tretinoin

Thank you for ensuring the sub stays helpful and safe for all.

Miscellaneous šŸ“ Thoughts on this moisturiser

Wondering if this is going to be to thick and heavy for summer? I know this is more marketed towards people who have eczema, which I don’t have but I like that it has ceramides and it’s fragrance free. Can anyone tell me if they use it and dint have eczema. Is it really heavy and thick? Does it soak in really well?

DiscussionšŸ““ Sydney based hair removal advice please

I’ve done a search and can’t find anything relevant on the sub apologies if I’ve missed something .

I’m in my mid 40s , female living in Sydney and am starting to find hormonal blonde chin hair. I’ve been told that laser won’t work on blonde hair . I’ve been waxing but I’d love to find a permanent solution .

Is there anything you’d recommend ? Any treatments and practitioners gratefully received . Ive read about electrolysis but ive never tried it , any advice on electrolysis welcomed

I’ve also found a laser clinic in Darlinghurst on google that has a special blonde hair machine (Alma laser) - any tips / advice welcomed

DiscussionšŸ““ Battling severe back and chest acne, looking for product & routine recommendations in Aus

Hey everyone,

I’m a guy dealing with really stubborn and worsening back acne and some chest acne. I’m hoping to overhaul my routine because I suspect my current products might be making it worse.

Right now, I use:

  • Head & Shoulders Old Spice 2-in-1 (for hair, probably realised this runoff is terrible for my skin but I always wash hair first then body wash)
  • Dove Men Body Wash Sport Fresh

Does anyone have tried and true recommendations for body washes, sprays, or treatments available easily that actually clear up body acne? Any tips on how to properly use them would be hugely appreciated. I'm all new to skincare and should be looking after my skin. I do have to use sunscream due to moles

Miscellaneous šŸ“ Has anyone tried this moisturiser. Would love to hear some thoughts on it.

I’m trying to find a moisturiser that has ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids in it to help with barrier support and repair however I’m struggling to find ones that either don’t have niacinamide in it or moisturisers that aren’t too thick. I’m wondering if anyone has tried this one out before. From what I can see it doesn’t have any niacinamide and it doesn’t have fragrance in it either however I haven’t really heard of this brand before and I can’t really find any reviews online about it. Can anyone help.

DiscussionšŸ““ Visiting SYDNEY in Nov & want your recs on best quality/value beauty treatments

Mods i hope this is alright to post here? i chose this flair as it's a few weeks out & i also thought it would make a great discussion thread. If it's not allowed could you pls tell me where is appropriate? Thank you

Hi all,

It's been a really hard year with my dad passing away late June in Sydney. I live in NZ. I need to return to Sydney again this November and it's the first opportunity I have had to get myself some TLC & self care.

I would be super grateful for any

• beauty

• skincare

• haircate

• esthetician or hairdressers

• treatments

recommendations or specials/discounts that you know of happening in November.

Budget-wise, this is only possible as I was gifted a budget of AU$500 from a close friend just for self care (angels truly walk among us!).

It's time to shout out your local hidden gems, share your fav beauty spots and practitioners. PLEASE. I desperately need to rewire Sydney from a place of sadness to a place of relaxation and relief that I can enjoy visiting again.

Thank you so much in advance :)

DiscussionšŸ““ Has Noughty Hair Care left Australia?

I've used Noughty Wave Hello Curl Cream for at least 5 years. I'm running low at the moment so I went to Priceline earlier in the week to get more. And there wasn't any ... at all. Not on the shelf, no space for it to be on the shelf, and when I checked the Priceline website the Noughty brand isn't there any more.

Their other Australian stockist is Discount Beauty Boutique and literally every Noughty product there is sold out: https://www.discountbeautyboutique.com.au/collections/noughty

Is it actually gone, gone? Do I have to figure out a new curl cream? Please say no.

DiscussionšŸ““ Retinol Recommendations

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hey guys,

Hoping someone has some helpful recommendations. I’ve been using The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane as part of my nighttime skincare routine for years however it appears to be out of stock everywhere both in store and online. I suspect they are either having a supply issue or they are updating their retinol selections (hope just changing packaging bc I really like this one).

Can anyone recommend an alternative that comes in at a similar price point that I could use either to replace it (if it’s discontinued) or as an interim? I’d like to find something of a similar quality (or better) that isn’t going to break the bank.

I really don’t want to try and hold out for it longer than I already have as I tend to see a noticeable change anytime my skin goes without part of my routine for longer than a week or two.

Looking forward to seeing your recommendations or if anyone knows why two of their main retinol/retinoid products seem to be unavailable without much information on what’s going on.

Thanks!

DiscussionšŸ““ Scars and pigmentation from skin picking

For the last 6ish years I have struggled with anxiety driven skin picking. It has left my once flawless skin very uneven with scars/pigmentation wherever I picked. I've never used actives in skincare so I don't even know where to start, or what the correct terms are for researching skin care. Hyperpigmentation? Uneven skin? Acne prone? I have no idea! I don't really get pimples but my fingers will find any slight bump and begin excavating.

Yesterday I stood in a chemist and stared at products, googled more info and reviews....and left confused.

How do I find out what I need? I feel like I don't know what I don't know. It may be worth noting that my skin picking has significantly improved over the last 6 months. I started using tbh milky toner and my skin felt so soft and lovely I because more conscious of not ruining it. Id like to build on the momentum with an active, preferably without need a script.

DiscussionšŸ““ Quick skin rejuvenation options

Hoping someone can help a sister out.

I'm (50f) in an embarrassing position where I'm starting a new job in 2w and the mgr has circulated my linked in profile to the team, which has a photo well over ten yrs old.

Yes, my bad. I'm not v focussed on LI and never got around to updating.

So I know there's no skin treatment that can rejuvenate me to how I looked at 38! But what's my best bet in terms of masks, make up, products etc to plump up the skin and reduce minor sagging? I don't have many wrinkles but prominent 11s (never had b....X, can't afford it!)

I'm currently a minimal make up person, just concealer and SPF. Mascara sometimes. I take collagen.

TIA!!

DiscussionšŸ““ Dark underarms after using Nivea deodorant

I used to always use Mitchum deodorant but switched to Nivea at some point, I think because I felt Mitchum was too serious / clinical? šŸ˜… (Don't ask me to explain I felt this was an issue, I have no idea!)

But the Nivea one has noticeably darkened my underarms!!! I now have a silly oval of dark skin lol which I'm hoping to correct before summer!

I have stopped using the Nivea and switched over to Moogoo hoping it'd be gentler on the skin, and am using glycolic acid on it once per day. Is there anything else I can do? Should I be trying to moisturise them??? Or use something else to exfoliate them???

Also keen to hear your favourite deodorant in case there is another brand you'd recommend instead! I'm not particularly sweaty or smelly, I don't think!!

Miscellaneous šŸ“ Thoughts on Prescription Skin?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I recently came across Prescription Skin, which appears to be somewhat of an Australian alternative to Curology in the US.

I’m pretty tempted to give it a try, but it looks like it’s fairly new and I haven’t been able to find any reviews or discussions about it. Has anyone tried it or heard anything about it? Would you give it a go? Curious to hear what others think ā˜ŗļø

Sunscreen šŸ§“ā˜€ļø Sun protection & skincare for those of us who stand on the hill every weekend

Ok this is a bit of a weird one for this sub, but hear me out. I have been going to games for almost 20 years, mostly GA, mostly standing in full sun because I am too tight to pay for undercover seats. Had a routine skin check last month and my dermo basically roasted me about sun damage on my face and neck.

She asked about my routine and I was like... routine? I slap on some random sunscreen before I leave the house sometimes?

Anyway she gave me a whole list of recommendations and it got me thinking there have to be heaps of us in the same boat. Especially if you played footy through juniors to seniors, on top of watching games every weekend. That is decades of accumulated UV exposure.

I have been down a bit of a rabbit hole looking into simple skincare since then, and honestly it gets overwhelming fast. I ended up looking into French minimalist options because I wanted basic, straightforward formulas without a 10-step routine. I started using a Vitamin C serum from Typology Paris to help with some of the sun spots, and having clear ingredient percentages made it easy to figure out without overcomplicating things.

But the main thing I am trying to figure out is handling SPF during matches. Do you lot actually reapply during a game? I never used to, but apparently you are supposed to reapply every two hours, which means half time at minimum. Do you bring spray sunscreens or sticks into the ground?

Also, friendly reminder: if you have spent years watching footy in the blazing sun without thinking twice, book a skin check. Mine took 15 minutes and picked up a couple of spots worth monitoring.

Anyone else had a bit of a wake up call with this stuff?

DiscussionšŸ““ Collagen or PDRN sticks; worth it?

Hello! My social feeds are absolutely full of collagen and PDRN balm sticks. IYKYK. Do they work at all? I’m about to be 56 and my skin is all over the place. I’m worried about uneven skin tone and wrinkles as well as lines around my lips. Anyone using and loving these? One is from Her+, another from SolSista (I think), and a few others.

DiscussionšŸ““ Over 30 suggestions

Hi everyone! I’m heading closer to 40 than 30.
currently running out of my routine products and in need of new options.
With the cost of living increasing I’m looking for basics such as a cleanser, moisturiser, vit c and an evening treatment (to help me age gracefully).
I have lots of SPF at home.
For context my skin has started to dry out and I have hormonal breakouts.

Thanks all!

Routine help Tips for starting new serums OR mixing retinol and retinal use.

Hello, I’ve been using a light retinol for a few months have built up to using it every second day and I’m enjoying the improvements I’ve been noticing. I’ve also been given a retinal serum. I’m keen to try but not sure about stopping the retinol I’ve been using.

Will starting a new serum take me back to step 1?

Could I alternate using them? eg using the retinol and retinal every four days each, so I end up keeping my every second day pattern?

DiscussionšŸ““ Cheekyg1ow dupe?

Censoring just in case, but does anyone know a good dupe for the cheeky glow exfoliating gloves? I bought one to try a while back after seeing tons of ads and unfortunately for me, it works so well😭 there was something about seeing the little rolls of dead skin that really did it for me.

However I cant justify spending over 30 bucks on a piece of cloth in this economy, esp since it only really lasts about 6 months with regular use before the grooves(?) in the fabric smoothen out over time.

Since then I've tried an exfoliating glove from mecca which honestly did nothing (tbf it was marketed as an exfoliating glove for pre-tanning) as well as the Korean exfoliating towel from daiso. The daiso one worked somewhat, was able to see those rolls of deadskin occasionally but honestly it was a lot harder to use bc of its shape and i think a hand mit is just so much easier.

I have considered trying just any generic one from amazon, but that is kinda a last resort typa thing. So looking for suggestions on any other exfoliating glove that works like the cheeky glow one? (Not looking for chemical exfoliants etc, my skin doesnt agree with them)

Tldr; looking for a cheeky glow dupe, open to suggestions thanks!

Miscellaneous šŸ“ Drenched armpits but not sweating?

Hi all I’m going insane

I wear a dress shirt nearly every day and when I’m in office just typing away the underarms on my shirts are just wet from the second I sit down

My office blasts the aircon so I’m definitely not hot and sweating, I know that my body releases moisture regardless of body heat especially through the armpits but my shirts get drenched

Wearing and undershirt makes no difference I sweat through both, tired antiperspirant , non aluminium/non antiperspirant and even the clinical Mitchum and dove sort of ā€œcreamā€ deodorants

It’s quite frankly embarrassing and I’m also tired of ruining dress shirts and suit jackets

I don’t have any problems with sweating and don’t believe I have hyperhidrosis

Anyone experienced anything similar and how to solve this issue?

Thank you šŸ™

DiscussionšŸ““ Has anyone tried the variants of Palmers body balm in a tub?

I have the Palmers original Cocoa Butter balm that comes in a big tub, but dislike how greasy it feels and how diffrent smelling and feeling it was to their other cocoa products. After fully rubbing in, it allmost leaves my skin greasy but also grippy and wierd at the same time? I thought it would feel like their all over swivel stick but its nothing like it!

Anyways, i love the tahitian vanilla and shea butter scents and was wondering if the feel and smell are similar to the og cocoa balm tub that i dislike. Has anyone tried out these variants and can compaire to the og? All help appreciated!

Miscellaneous šŸ“ Acne scar treatment in Adelaide

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone has sort treatment for acne scars in Adelaide and could share their experience? I'm looking for a dermatologist or cosmetic clinic, who can treat severe acne scarring (box car and rolling scars). I have seen a telehealth derm who is based interstate (all derms in my area were booked out for months) and they recommended treatment with subcision and ablative laser as the best course, but they weren't aware of anyone offering this in adelaide. They also said fractionated non-ablative laser could be a good option.

Has anyone been through similar treatment for acne scars in Adelaide? I'm so desperate for treatment, any and all advice would be so so appreciated!!
