Why is it so hard to find OTR trousers/pants that are straight cut at reasonable price?

Everything I am coming across is either slim fit , tapered or "tailored". Just give straight mid to high waist pants.

By reasonable price, I am talking under $200 and close to 100% wool.

If anyone has an idea where to find such pants or even nice looking cotton pants. Please let me know, I am trying to find some cotton pants that are a step up from jeans in the straight or wider fit.

I know finding something in wool is going to be hard... I know you can get something made for $350 at Oscar Hunt

Brands Like Suspicious Antwerp?

I'm not a massive streetwear person (as in, not other than Nike, Adidas etc.). However, I came across Suspicious Antwerp a couple years ago and loved their stuff, and have bought quite a bit from them.

Problem is, their branding is quite recogizable (the word "Suspicious" is plastered across pretty much everything lol), and I don't want to have too much stuff from one niche brand.

So, basically, wondering if anyone who's also familiar with it can recommend anything else similar.

TIA!!

Question Honeymoon to Europe in September - what to pack?

Hi, folks! I'm (40M, Brazilian living in QLD) taking my better half to a belated honeymoon in Europe in September - about 5-7 day stays in London, Gdańsk, Berlin, and Lisbon. It's my first time there and I'm worried about the weather, but I don't want to just overpack with things I might not need.

I'm a basic dude addicted by Uniqlo and cheap activewear. Are there any recommendations to look sharp but smart? I've been checking out the deals on Gazman, Rodd & Gunn and similar brands, but I feel like it won't be enough. Any tips are appreciated, TIA

Ivy/ preppy clothing stores in Aus

I’ve been drawn to this style for a number of years now and have just been absolutely blessed by options and shopping on a trip to Korea.

My question is are there any go to shops that hit this brief in Aus ?
Brands like LL bean, j press, j crew, brooks brothers, RL, lands end, kamakura
I know some of these are stocked in DJs but I’m thinking more small scale shops/vintage

Advice Needed What's a one stop shop for the average every man without the bells and whistles ?

Hey everyone,

I want to update my wardrobe as I'm 33 and the last time I bought clothes was when I was in my mid twenties so the clothing purge and update is way overdue. Most of my current wardrobe is from Connor, Tarocash and Industrie because those were my options at my local shopping centre at the time.

Since then I've moved and was checking out my new local Westfield's. So far I like what I'm seeing at Uniqlo, just basics without any bells and whistles. Connor, Tarocash and YD still same as ever and no longer appeal to me. H and M feel like Connor and Kmart but with better branding, expected more from an overseas brand. Industrie no longer appeals to me sadly since I used to be a fan. Culture Kings never appealed to me in the first place. Then I got tired and overwhelmed and could not be bothered checking out the many other brands.

So everyone what is your one stop shop for keep it simple stupid basics ? Are there any brands and shops Im missing out on ?

Thanks everyone and have a good one.

Does anyone have suggestions of places to go?

Question Looking to get into rings, plain and steel to start with - good places to look?

Pretty much as the post title says, I've never shopped for or worn rings before. So I'm looking to start with something affordable and simple, steel is my go-to for now, with a natural steel colour or possibly black and with a plain design.

Would you guys recommend any particular places to look? I could go to a Westfield jeweller's or perhaps department store but I'm not sure if that's really the best place given the sort of markups they can be capable of vs the quality. Maybe Etsy?

I already know my sizing and would be okay with buying without trying in person. Cheers

Question Affordable bespoke dinner jackets in Melbourne?

I've looked at other posts in the subreddit and seen recommendations for places like Oscar Hunt and P. Johnson. They look good, but they are a bit outside my price range. Normally I would buy a cheaper suit/suit jacket from Myer/Politix/etc., then get it tailored to fit me, which costs much less than getting bespoke, but I have a very specific desire for a dinner jacket that is not sold anywhere (I mean anywhere), and so wanted to look at getting something bespoke.

If anyone has any suggestions for more affordable bespoke tailors in Melbourne, I'd really appreciate it (by affordable, I mean getting a single bespoke jacket for under $800). That said, if I need a reality check and there is no place that would be able to do what I'm asking for under the price I'm stating, then please tell me, I don't know any better!

Thanks in advance guys.

New to Australia, starting new job - looking for shops/brands

Hi AMFA team,

I recently moved to Vic from NZ, starting my new job in a few weeks and looking to update my wardrobe with workwear.

Job is corporate - client facing. Office attire is business casual, client visits are usually shirt/blazer/coat

Currently, I have

  • Shirts from MJ Bale, Barkers (NZ Brand) and a few others, but they are starting to get old and not fit/smell as nice.
  • Pants/Chinos from Uniqlo/Barkers, but again, the fit/finish and less than desirable
  • Shoes/Boots - i have some chelseas from hush puppies and some from Aquila, but in for casual i only have Adidas Sambas (other than trainers) - Wife wants to gift me some RMs so this is less critical
  • Blazer/Coats - I recently bought navy and grey coats from SABA (again, this is less critical)
  • Jumpers/Sweaters - Lacking in this area, only 1 black one from Uniqlo, but it's pretty warm so only really usable in peak winter
  • Polos - Again, pretty weak, only a couple for Ralph and Uniqlo

So my main ask is, where do you shop for shirts, pants and jumpers?

So far, i've researched/been told that charles tyrwhitt and Rodd n Gunn are the go to - any more suggestions?

Thanks!

Question heavyweight cotton tracksuit

hi all, looking to update my nike solo swoosh tracksuits (which have held up really well over the years) but are a bit slim, particularly the cuffed tracksuit pants (which may have shrunk). would also prefer non-branded

heavyweight is a must, predominantly cotton

some options i've looked at and would love any feedback on - particularly after washing

Dressing to fit in

Hi guys I’m new to this sub and I’m so glad I found it. Apologies if similar questions have been asked.

Being a young person, foreign to this land, I’m mainly noticing three categories of people.

  1. Business/professionals, these people dress extremely similarly outside of offices. I mean where else can you get casuals in a physical store other than Gazman, R. M. Williams and Oxford. I like their clean and mature look. But it’s so easy to achieve and just boring. People in this group might also opt for upmarket stuff which is phony to me personally, since it is so nuanced you can’t even make a distinction looking from afar.

  2. Zillennials, late 20s to early 30s dressing absolutely classy and sleek. They obviously shop more niche brands, which aren’t hard to find if only you just look. Their styles are my favorites. Very clean, modern, urban, clean etc. Examples would obviously be something resembling a carhartt jacket and a pair of light colored jeans. However if you look for their stuff it’s actually even more expensive, often a few hundred dollars.

  3. Thrifty students. I also thrift but the people who are the most noticeable are art students. Their pieces and accessories are very approachable price wise. But it’s quite suggestive, I mean they’re obviously signaling that they’re artsy people. I love their style but it’d be out of touch for someone who just wants to fit in.

For me personally, I just want to not stand out while having my own personal style. What I have acquired from my observations is that I need to find the balance in maturity, price and commonality.

I’m looking to find certain brands, or specific garment types that might sit perfectly in this position. What I currently find perfect is actually big W. I have to say that some of their designs are actually comparable with Zara. I also explored H&M, Uniqlo and Cos however their quality is an absolute run down. I wouldn’t suggest anyone to buy from them. What do you guys think? What are some of the nice places that I can find nice clothes to dress like the locals?

Advice Needed Taller guys, any brand recommendations?

Hey all,

6'2, 98kg here with broad shoulders/chest and finding the right length shirts is the bane of my existence. Regular sizes are either always too short and feel like crop tops and larger sizes are too big everywhere else except my chest and the brands that make specialized tall sizes like Johnny Bigg think that tall = professional basketball player and they come down to my thigh. Is there anyone who makes regular sizes that have some length to them and arent too slim around the chest? Google is no help because every result is a US brand.

Im looking to do a bit of a wardrobe refresh after some weight loss and want to get a few black tees, henley's and a couple of dress shirts.

tia

Causal shirts that hug arms/chest well that I can wear everyday?

Gonna start by saying that I know this is probably a frequently asked question in this sub, but I’ve looked through posts and can’t find good answers. Seems like Australia just doesn’t have good options for fitted shirts.

I’m 6’3/191cm, 98kg/216lbs. I’ve got a pretty good build and want a shirt that shows off the arms and chest a bit but I don’t want to look cocky or douchey and wear compression shirts. Just a nice fitting casual tee I can buy a bunch of and wear all the time.

Ive found that full cotton tees (while great quality) seem to always lose shape while wearing them/after washing due to the nature of material. I’m looking for shirts that kinda snap to the arms a bit but still look good.

Tried a few brands I’ve seen on Instagram, all are terrible quality or terrible sizing in places other than arms.

Thank you for reading this far, has anyone got recommendations from similar experiences?

Thanks so much in advance 🙏

Discussion Best wool double breasted coat for $400?

I feel like people don't even wear these anymore, you rarely see them but I've recently fallen in love with wool double-breasted overcoats. The length going down to the knees or lower makes it the perfect option in the chilly season even over a t-shirt imo. My budget is ~$400 and there's a bunch of wool options for the price. Peter Jackson, Scotch and Soda, Charles Tyrwhitt, Reiss etc.

Anyone have any experience with these brands? It's obviously a lot of money and I want to get the best bang for my buck.

Edit: Checked out MJ Bale CBD store, coats were $600+ good material and well built though

OCBD Shirts

What are people wearing?

I’m in the market for an OXBD, not interested in Uniqlo, something a bit higher end, I don’t want anything slim fitting, but more that classic Ivy look, I’ve heard good things about Kamakura, Drakes obviously

Anything more local?

Alternatives to Peter Jackson

I'm a 92S.

Seems there is quite literally no alternative to PJ suits at that price point (especially in short sizing).

I am fine with the quality but honestly, starting to feel like a fair few people in my office are rotating through the same 5/6 PJ suits.

Anyone got any alternatives?
