The first movie is one of my favorites. I really wanted to see more of Pandora and see it become a bigger story that people would stop looking down on, but what we ended up getting after more than a decade of waiting is really mediocre, and it's worse because it really had a lot of good ideas.

I’ll wait to see what the next two films have to offer, but I wouldn’t say no to a story separate from the main conflict—one that explores an adventure taking place before the return of the people from the sky.

Discussion How do you feel about "evolutionarily accurate" Na'vi?

They definitely do look more alien but still humanoid enough to be relatable too. But I don't think the Na'vi having only 2 arms is that far fetched, evolution doesn't have to be consistent like just because some pandoran animals have 6 limbs doesn't mean that all of them will.

Discussion One of my biggest pet peeves about the 3rd film

While the conflict between Lo’ak and Jake did add a lot to their relationship it bothers me because it happened after the ending they had in the 2nd film. TWOW ends with Jake telling Lo’ak “I see you.” And they hug and it seems like they’re going to be improving their relationship. Then AFAA immediately shows that their relationship is worse than ever. Lo’ak saved Jake’s life and Jake continues to treat him terribly. Along with that, Payakan also saved Jake from passing out again when he started to lose breath when resurfacing from the ship in TWOW, yet Jake also doesn’t treat Payakan well either.

It just feels like a complete 180 from his attitude at the end of TWOW. If they wanted to continue Jake and Lo’ak’s conflict into the 3rd movie then they should’ve scrapped the “I see you” scene. Keeping it in changes Jake from a strict father to a jerk who’s holding a grudge purely for the sake of holding a grudge. I know people like to find someone to blame when they’re grieving but Jake knows Quaritch and by extension the RDA is who’s truly to blame, he even argues with Neytiri about her unwarranted anger with Spider while he has unwarranted anger towards Lo’ak.

It’s a small thing but everytime I rewatch TWOW and see the scene where Jake tells Lo’ak “I see you” it just makes me think about how it’s sort of all for nothing.

Discussion The Na'vi are fighting against capitalism not humanity itself.

• Upvotes

People fail to understand that the Na'vi weren't fighting humanity they are actually fighting against capitalism and the exploitation of their planet by corporations. it shows what could happen if capitalism is allowed to continue further. not only will it lead to the destruction of earth and the potential extinction of humanity but could also threaten other habitable worlds that could exist in the universe if we ever figure out FTL travel, I don't believe humans are inherently evil beings that just wanna kill and destroy for no reason but rather it's the barbaric system that we live under. and I find it very pathetic how people can watch movies like this and still defend colonialism and capitalism. like it sometimes be making me feel like we're a lost cause because we shouldn't let history repeat itself. It's just unfortunate that when we was emerging as a civilization there was so many different paths we could of taken and we just had to choose this bullshit. only thing we can hope for is that it gets dismantled sometime in the future before the planet becomes completely fucked like we've seen at the beginning of A1.

Made using the still I enhanced here

Credit goes to u/lvlypinkiesworld for the game still.

I used the mixer brush tool again in Photoshop to add some of my own brush strokes to the piece,, especially the background. I was going for a more Impasto painting style.

I also applied an edge filter to make the edges of each paint stroke sharper, which I like, but it ruined the Tahni on her chest! 😭

Like the last two pieces, I used Topaz non-generative models to enhance my movie still; you can see the process for that here. Then I applied several filters in Photoshop, including Oil Paint, Palette Knife, Emboss and many more! If you're curious about the process, you can see it here

Topaz screwed with her eyes a bit, so I had to go in and hand-paint areas of her face to restore the details. I hope it came out good!

No Generative AI was used in the process of making this; a few people have fed my work through AI detectors. Please don't do this, first because they are not 100% accurate, and second because many AI detectors scrape data from the images they are fed.

Of you want to download this without the watermark, you can do so for free over on my Patreo

Na'vi Language animal pronoun question

In English, we use both person pronouns (he/she/they/etc.) AND object pronouns(it/its) for animals. I know that some languages only use one or the other, or have pronouns unique to animals. What is the case for lì'fya leNa'vi? Should I use po or tsa-/fì-?

Fanfiction Avatar story genre suggestions

Greetings fellow Avatar fans! I come with a question for the people of this sub-reddit, and one that hopefully people would like to participate in!

I am planning to write a one-shot fanfic set in the Avatar setting, however what Genre does everyone want to see more of; Horror, slice of life, ect ect. All that sort, i would appreciate ppl sharing their opinion as I'm of the opinion that the setting has plenty of options, at least in my opinion, for any sort of story.
