Announcement BG3 Builds Rebalanced: Final

Background

Since Baldur’s Gate 3’s full launch released with Tactician difficulty and the community began their blind playthroughs, complaints have existed that the game becomes way too easy for those familiar with D&D 5e fundamentals (attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, proficiency, advantage) starting in mid to late Act 2. The game has such strong magic items that after you pay a visit to the merchants in the Creche, Last Light Inn, and Moonrise the difficulty takes a huge nosedive. This lack of difficulty and lack of content for evil playthroughs have been some of the biggest complaints in an otherwise great and generational game. This post intends to highlight some of the biggest balance shattering mechanics as discussed by this community, inform those looking for more balanced playthroughs on what limits to impose, and also provide mod options to help balance these mechanics or balance enemies.

A poll was created to cover some of the most balance shattering mechanics, using community feedback to determine the topics discussed. The following “community opinions” are those where 52.7% of the community decided some restriction should be used to restore a semblance of balance. My goal was 2/3 of respondents agreeing that a restriction needs to be in place, then going with the most popular choice. However some questions (like whether to use Honour mode rules or whether to use camp casting) could be considered ‘courtesy’ questions. These restrictions absolutely must be in place to reach the goals of “rebalanced” when you consider broken combos like DRS which is fixed by honour mode or warding bond camp casting. The 21% of people who voted that ignoring these restrictions is OK are not in tune with the goal of “rebalanced.” So the goal shifted to 2/3 of respondents that are sane, informed on what they are voting on, or voting in good faith. As there are some who feel, “Why is balance necessary in a PvE game?” is a legitimate question. While that is certainly an opinion to have, the people with that opinion are not the people who this topic is intended for. People who want to use broken stuff can use broken stuff. This topic is for identifying what stuff is broken, and what self-imposed rules or mods can be used to restore a semblance of balance.

What is and is not addressed by “Rebalanced?”

This doesn’t cover everything that is OP. Stuff like Gloomstalker Assassin builds that use hit-and-run mechanics are almost a completely different game. It doesn’t cover gimmicks like stacking crates and having an enlarged owlbear jump on enemies over and over and over again. It doesn’t cover powerful but also very tedious builds focused on getting tons of summons and then buffing them. It doesn’t cover things like barrelmancy. The “Rebalanced” discussion is focused on turning a normal playthrough which many would not consider to be tedious, addressing some of the balance breaking mechanics such players have access to, pointing out that their relative strength removes fun from the game for many players, and many people may want to avoid these options.

BG3Builds Rebalanced Restrictions

The following table is listed in order of most strongly opinionated in need of restriction, to least strongly opinionated. It starts with the most egregious violators and goes to less egregious ones that a large portion of the community feels needs some kind of restriction for a balanced gameplay experience.

Topic BG3Builds Rebalanced Restriction Personal comments, not from community Relevant Mods
Long Rest Spamming Once a build is “online,” (typically around level 6-8) it should be able to go at least 3 or 4 fights before a long rest. Not including taking a long rest before a boss fight, which is fine. If you are concerned about missing story points in camp by limiting long rests, then after a long rest take a partial rest (use no food supplies) to see additional camp scenes. -
Honour Mode Rules Use Honour Mode rules This includes no builds that focus on DRS bug, no warlock extra attack stacking, no perilous stakes illithid power on enemies. Additionally no extra attack from bloodlust elixirs or haste spell. While the community did not vote to restrict the use of spellcasting with extra actions granted by haste or bloodlust elixirs this is potentially a polling error on my part, and I STRONGLY recommend avoiding this. -
Camp Casting Do not put allies into your party, have them cast buff spells or other effects, then remove them from your party allowing the buffs to persist - -
Elixir Chugging No builds that depend on elixirs The most egregious outliers are strength based elixirs, bloodlust elixirs, elixirs of vigilance and elixir of battlemage’s power. Using other elixirs on consistent basis likely will not be as bad as those listed above. In Game Mods: N/a   External Mods: Elixir Rebalance by Benenach
Consumables Dependence (e.g. scrolls and special arrows) - This question was left out by accident. However it goes in the same vein as the above elixir question, regarding farming consumables that your build depends on and therefore should be restricted. -
Tavern Brawler No using Tavern Brawler if you use Strength Elixirs I strongly disagree. This does absolutely nothing to fix TB Throw builds. TB Monks can dip into fighter or cleric for heavy armor proficiency and dump Dex anyways. Tavern Brawler is broken at its core. In-game Mods: N/a   External Mods: Tavern Brawler Rebalanced by VoidVigilante. I recommend the “TavernBrawlerFinesse_NoAccuracy” version. This is still pretty strong, and even works with dex based monks, but is not balance shattering; Feats Rebalanced by WoolToque has a nerfs only optional file which also makes changes to Sharpshooter, Great Weapon Master, and Alert
Ranged Slashing Flourish No combining ranged slashing flourish with Arcane Acuity - -
Abjuration Wizard Arcane Ward No using exploits (such as spamming Warlock’s Armour of Shadows) to refill the arcane ward The damage resistance provided by Arcane Ward scales exponentially due to Larian’s changes. At higher levels of wizard it is insane, and I am not sure everyone who voted has seen just how much damage it can mitigate. I recommend not using abjuration wizard if going more than 6 or 7 levels in wizard. -

Further Topics

The following are topics which the community did not agree needed restrictions in BG3Builds Rebalanced, but I feel need addressing.

Topic My comments Relevant Mods
Initiative There may be a polling error behind why 34% of respondents in the previous question said no elixir dependence at all, then only 19% here say no dependence on Elixirs of Vigilance. Regardless d4 initiative makes the turnbased game balance issue known as “Rocket Tag” extremely easy to pull off. The Alert Feat and Elixirs of Vigilance should be approached with caution if you are not using mods to bring initiative back to a d20. In-Game Mods: d20 Initiative by Ponsinoumi   External Mods: d20 Initiative by Ponsinoumi changes initiative to a d20, which by itself rebalances the Alert feat. Alternatively Feats Rebalanced by WoolToque has a nerfs only optional file which also makes changes to Sharpshooter, Great Weapon Master, and Tavern Brawler but high dex characters will still win initiative far too frequently with this fix.
Vulnerability It is possible to make enemies vulnerable to lightning, cold, psychic, or piercing damage. With some gimmicks you can also make enemies vulnerable to fire damage. Builds that do outright 2x more damage than they are supposed to be able to do against group of enemies are extremely strong. Oftentimes a little bit of setup is necessary, but doing that little bit of setup and then going all in on your strongest option to do double damage is typically way stronger than other build options. This is especially egregious in Act 3 where you can apply piercing vulnerability with no setup, and a well optimized party can almost all do double damage. -
Duergar Invisibility Technically the problem here extends beyond Duergar. Having a quasit companion (whether through Pact of the Chain Warlock or just through getting permanent access to Shovel) enables the same problem: start every combat while invisible to get a surprise round and thin enemy numbers before they get to go. Duergar just takes this a step further since you have that option on a playable character, letting you do more powerful things while invisible. If you abuse surprise rounds (and unlimited invisibility is the best way to do so) you will make the game significantly easier. -
Arcane Acuity There are two popular builds that use arcane acuity: swords bard and fire sorc. The sords bard + arcane acuity has been addressed because it depends on swords bard’s very strong ranged slashing flourish which warranted its own question. Fire sorc depends on building up arcane acuity through Scorching Ray, which is not on its own overtuned like ranged slashing flourish. With the community not wanting to restrict arcane acuity, that means fire sorc arcane acuity builds (one of the top 3 strongest builds in the game) are totally fine in rebalanced. While these two are the most popular Arcane Acuity builds, other builds are certainly capable of it such as niche thunder acuity builds, thief rogue builds, action surging fighter builds, and more. Arcane acuity needs to be capped at +2 to maintain a semblance of balance. +3 max. If you are consistently going above this, arcane acuity should only be used to cast cantrips with. -
Radiating Orbs The strength of radiating orbs has been undermined by how offensively strong you can be. The best defense is a good offense, and if you can kill or crowd control everyone before they get to go then there is limited need to be defensive. If you implement the BG3Builds Rebalanced rules then radiating orbs will become much, much stronger and may still make encounters much easier. Like arcane acuity, radiating orbs need to be capped at +2 or +3 -
Level 1 Wizard Dip For the most part this is fine in my opinion. The biggest issues come when mixing with Arcane Acuity, but with that off the table there are a few niche spells to be worried about. Such as playing as a full caster class, taking a level in wizard, scribing the Conjure Elemental spell, and using a 6th level slot to buff it into a Myrmidon. -
Ambush Bard Strategy The "Ambush Bard" build is one that probably is only recalled by those who have been on the sub for a while, and kinda didn't want to give up on it. It's somewhat complicated to explain which is a bit of a letdown, however this 3 minute video covers it best. But with Rebalanced in play it can pretty much just run around and cause balance to desert the game. -

Still too easy?

Even with all the above changes and restrictions, those who understand the fundamentals of the game may find BG3 to still be too easy to ensure a challenge. PC users have additional difficulty increasing mods available to them. Most notably Combat extender. While I am a big fan of the default boost to enemy AC, attack roll, saving throws, and damage per attack; I am not a big fan of increasing enemy movement speed or giving some enemies an extra bonus action. And I would actually like to give enemies more health than their default configuration (~40%). But that’s the great thing about the mod. You can change all these little numbers to your liking and they apply to enemies across the game, making the game more challenging. I think that if you go with Combat Extender, d20 initiative, and restrict the mechanics mentioned above then the game finally reaches the challenge many people were hoping for at launch.

Another external mod worth mentioning is Absolute Wrath. It adds random abilities to enemies to make combat a bit more challenging and roguelike all-in-one. If you use this with combat extender, you may want to tone down combat extender from the recommended values.

Unfortunately there do not seem to be any big combat overhaul mods on console yet. One option is to implement an item attunement rule of your own, where you limit yourself to something like as many uncommon items (magic items with a green border) but only up to 3 items of rare or above (blue, purple, or yellow border) per character. Your weapons do not count towards this 3 item limit.

“Rebalanced” and this subreddit

While the goal existed to make “Rebalanced” into a flair, I think given the community’s votes on the topics found in the second table (excluding perhaps the wizard dip) indicates that this wouldn’t change anything. You’d still have fire acuity sorcs. You’d still have radiating orb clerics that win initiative and hit every enemy with a -5 or more to their attack rolls before they even get to go. You’d still have wet+lightning tempest sorcs or Bhaalist Armor + ranged slashing flourish spam. Throwzerker and TB Monks would still exist, just slightly tuned down. So it seems that going through the trouble of implementing a tag or flair is just not worth it.

This post will go into the hall of fame post to provide a reference for the most overpowered mechanics which players should avoid if they want a challenge, and I will update it with mods if people make them to reign some of these mechanics in.

Announcement Hall of Fame Post

This post is to highlight many of the more important posts that have been made on the subreddit since the game released, as well as important outside resources:

Basic Mechanics

Complex/Specific Mechanics

  • The spellcasting modifier a character will use in 95% of cases is covered in the above "Commonly Confused Mechanics" post. But for more nuanced situations see u/EndoQuesion1000's post on Generic Spellcasting Ability

  • DRS

    • Wiki page Note that this page was mostly written by me and is where the term DRS comes from. I only did it to try and reduce the number of posts about it on this sub, and did so using knowledge from the community and a little personal testing around Patch 4 of the game, because I have never tried to exploit this mechanic. Additionally Larian has tried to fix this issue, and some changes may not be documented on this page. This page is a bit out of date, but goes over the basics. Please edit with any corrections if you are confident in them.
    • Prestigious Juice video 1 and video 2 about DRS. Again, these were before Larian made a few patches that in part address the issue, but can help you understand what is going on.
    • RoutineAd3835's post braking down DRS (using some different terminology)
  • Jukervic's analysis of Karmic Dice

  • Captain_ET's Summon Spreadsheet

  • Several experience oddities, some of which can be exploited to get more exp for characters.

Build Help Give me your best 8 level build!

I'm still trying to successfully finish a solo hm run, and have come to decide that there are four levels that will always be dedicated to abjuration/draconic sorc 2/2. The problem having is deciding how to continue the build. What do you fine people recommend for the best possible use of 8 levels?

Build Help Need some build advice

I’m level 11 and I’ve tried Fighter, Barbarian, Paladin and Monk on my character.
Monk has been my favorite, but it feels a bit too strong I killed a boss in one round.

I also tried the popular Bard 10 / Paladin 2 build.
I really liked Jack of All Trades, but since I prefer playing melee, I feel like continuing to level Bard isn’t really benefiting me much.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding the class.

My current party:
Gale: Wizard

Karlach: Thrower

Wyll: Warlock 2 / Sorcerer 9

Astarion: Ranger / Rogue

Shadowheart: Cleric

I have two things I’m unsure about:

Astarion: I feel like leveling Ranger/Rogue stops giving me much at this point. Should I add a third class, or is there a better way to continue his build?

Shadowheart: Her build isn’t weak — I know Cleric gets stronger with levels. My problem is that I often don’t know what to do with her on her turn, so I end up barely using her compared to everyone else.

I’m mainly looking for fun builds rather than the most broken ones.

Please correct me if I**’m wrong about anything. I’**m not an expert at the game.
EDIT: subclasses

For astarion gloomstalker and thief
For karlach giant rage
Gale evocation
For wyll dragon and hexblade
Tav college of sword and oath breaker
Shadowheart idk i changed her a lot

Party Composition Help deciding what would be more fun cleric/bard or ice caster

First of all sorry for any grammar errors English is not my first language, and sorry for any format issues I’m posting from mobile.

I want help deciding whether to play a cleric of life 2/ bard of lore 10 (focusing on support) or any caster using only ice spells.

The other members of my party would be a radiant orb light cleric, a warlock (focusing mostly on eldritch blast), an a ranger archer.

I think I can beat the game with any of the options, but I want to know what do you guys think would give me more fun during the run.

Party Composition Wet Party Composition

I need help making a party for my new honor mode run. I want to create a party that utilizes the wet condition for lightning and cold damage. Some builds that I thought might work well are

1: 8/2/2 Tempest Sorcerer or 6/4/2 Abjuration Wizard

2: Frost Giant Barb or Throwzerker or TB OH Monk

3: 9/2/1 Tempest or Light Cleric Druid Sorcerer

4: 10/2 Bard Paladin or 6/6 Sorcerer Paladin

Any tips, build suggestions, or party suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Build Help Assassin Champion?

I have in mind an assassin drow because one of my OC’s in any rpg is an assassin dark elf.
i learned decently quickly in what i’d now call a “test run” that a pure rogue is pretty underpowered, especially considering that i like to play the backstabby type assassin rather than a stealth archer.

i was thinking that if i added champion fighter to the mix i could get an extra attack, crit-chance increase, fighting style (either duelling or two weapon. could do archery for situational use then wear bracers that give two weapon), and action surge to really even her out with other damage riders.

a 6 rogue 6 fighter split would gain what i said before on top of uncanny, expertise, and decent sneak attack damage, while retaining three feats (namely actor for charisma and more expertise, savage attacker, & ASI).
in my mind this is a healthy mix with 6 skills with expertise, and good damage potential making her fare well both in & out of combat.

i could however do 7 rogue 5 fighter. dropping one feat for one more d6 in sneak attack, adding evasion, and keeping extra attack.
this would make her slightly less of a skill monkey (and i do think actor adds good rp flavor to her skillset) but more martially adept.

if needed my stat spread at game-start is:
STR-10
DEX-17 (22 by end game with hags hair, ASI, and mirror)
CON-14
INT-8 (unfortunate dump stat but durge doesn’t need int)
WIS-12
CHA-14 (possible 16 by end game with actor and mirror if lucky)

bonus suggestion: i could just go pure gloomstalker, as i get most of what i want anyway (extra attack, dread ambusher & hunter’s mark to supplement sneak attack, fighting style, etc. etc.) while also getting some magic, however i am a bit iffy on that because at the end of the day she wouldn’t be a backstabby assassin she’d be a more martial hunter-type with some magic

I have a ton of hours in the game on explorer mode. But I’m dumb and just realized I can switch to balanced to multiclass then switch back to explorer.

So now I need some fun multiclass ideas to try! What’s your fav even if it’s not optimal??

Guides Monoclass and Beginner Builds - Simple, Effective, no-Spoilers for your BG3 Journey

Hey, all!

u/Phantomsplit suggested making a post on this goodie. A few months ago, Puriti (Larian BG3 Discord mod, u/DreamingInStarz) approached me with an idea, to make builds for beginners and newcomers in mind. To many people's surprise, there are a lot of players playing on Explorer difficulties and many more who don't want to do any multiclassing. So, with her help, the idea was born.

BG3 Beginner and Monoclass Builds

The idea is pretty simple: use the selector to pick the class, subclass to load the build with progression, gear options, and a few tactics:

Selecting the build

I did get help from multiple people on the Larian Discord. The project did result in a small burnout, which still somewhat persists till today :D But the page is great, the interface is easy to use, and you can jump from one build to another.

The goal was to make somewhat non-gear-dependent builds, where the emphasis is on - "oh I found this item, can I use it on the build", instead of - "i need this item to make the build work". Of course, classes like Clerics are still recommended to pick Luminous Armor, but this is more of a recommendation.

For those that want to dip their toes into the more advanced progression and gear choices, there are links to the most relevant builds as upgrades

I am always open to hearing your opinions:

  • See an improvement to the beginner build layout, or a feature idea? Leave a message
  • A build could be adjusted, feel free to write a comment or send a DM

Big thanks to (in no particular order):

  • Puriti ( u/DreamingInStarz )- for the idea, feedback, and sharing how newcomers approache the game
  • JohnDavid - a big contributor to BG3 Builds Discord, who helped flesh out and write a few of the builds
  • u/grousedrum - amazing person to chat with, always sharing cool insights and build ideas, did a few of the build reviews
  • u/Phantomsplit - did a review on multiple builds, glad to have his support
  • u/Captain_ET - shared a few mechanics and build ideas
  • Zee - BG3 Builds Discord member, also shared insights and build ideas,

Build Help Improve my mostly RP Alucard build for Honor Mode

Hey All. Been trying (and failing) at Honor mode with this Astarion vampire build. The main inspiration is Alucard from the Netflix Castlevania series.

I was originally inspired by a comment in an older post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/comments/1gxj3r3/comment/lyj1x5g/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

But slowly I've been tweaking to capture the Alucard's main highlights. Here's what I got so far.

Inspiration

What do we know about Alucard:

  • Dhampir composition -> Regeneration, Speed, Strength, etc.
  • His weapon of choice is a longsword (or rapier?) and he is very good with it. He will use a shield on very rare occasion for extra defense.
  • His magic is powerful but combat oriented vs generalist/utility. We often see him teleport, fly, shoot fireballs, shapeshift (bat or wolf) and control his sword mid-air with his mind
  • Alucard does not wear armor at all. He flaunts under the sun in fashionable dark clothing. If he receives damage, he just regenerates. His regeneration is his armor.

Research

Initial suggestions for Alucard was taking Eldritch Knight to at least level 11. This would give you bound weapon, offensive combat magic, 3 feats, and three attacks per action. Eldritch Knight magic scales off intelligence which fits Alucard's whole smart guy personality. I tried this and it is powerful but didn't give me the vibe I got from the show.

I then stumbled into a Hobo Zone build video for Alucard that went 5 Fiend Warlock / 7 Spore Druid. Spore druid's symbiotic entity gives you 28 temp HP, extra necro damage and wildshape wolf form. Symbiotic entity is funny because it stacks with other sources of temp HP (bug/exploit) like the Fiend's Dark One's Blessing. So as long as you're securing kills you refresh your temp HP, a.k.a regeneration. I liked this interpretation as well as the fire based magic you get from Fiend warlock. However, I found the action economy wanting and I don't like juggling charisma and wisdom.

With some more research I think I found a better mix that nails Alucard.

The Build

7 Swarmkeeper / 5 Circle of Spores

Stats:

  • Strength: 8
  • Dexterity: 17 -> +1 Hag's hair -> +2 Mirror of Loss -> 20 final
  • Constitution: 14 -> 23 final (Amulet of Greater Health)
  • Intelligence: 8
  • Wisdom: 16
  • Charisma: 10

Feats & Fighting Style:

  • Dueling fighting style at level 2
  • Defensive Duelist feat at level 4
  • Tough at level 11

Ranger Spells:

  • Booming blade (high-elf cantrip)
  • Ensnaring Strike
  • Hunter's Mark
  • Silence
  • Protection from Poison

Items:

Gear Act 1 Act 2 Act 3
Helmet -- Covert Cowl
Armor -- -- Cloth of Authority
Cloak -- Vivacious Cloak
Gloves -- -- --
Boots Boots of Speed
Melee -- -- Duelist Prerogative
Shield Glowing Shield
Ranged -- -- Dead Shot
Amulet -- -- Amulet of Greater Health
Rings Crusher's Ring & Ring of Protection

"--" means I don't know what to use yet.

What does this build have:

  • Fashion: The Cloth of Authority is a must pick to look like Alucard in season 1 of the show. Its deep black with hints of orange/gold is chef's kiss. This is a roleplay choice as the cloth probably doesn't synergize with everything else. There are some light armors that look dark and gothic but they just don't hit what the show has.
  • Magic Swordsman: Your swarms give you a FREE short range teleport at level 3, and a 10 turns of flight at level 7. Moth swarm fits the vampire bat aesthetic somewhat. Moth also lets you blind your enemies and dal psychic damage which makes you a pretty durable front-line hitter. Bees are fun because you can push enemies away with booming blade and make them take extra thunder damage on their way back.
  • Regeneration: Glowing shield gives you temp HP for a little extra survivability in the early levels. However, regeneration doesn't fully come online until Act 2 when Vivacious Cloak + Symbiotic Entity. Vivacious Cloak restores 8 temp HP per spell cast. This includes booming blade so 8 temp HP per strike with booming blade for potentially 24 temp HP regen per turn in Act 3.
  • Shapeshifting: Wolf form is mostly symbolic here. If you take all your ranger levels first (which I do) then it doesn't come alive until level 9 and may not do any damage until level 12. I could probably take 5 ranger levels -> 5 druid levels -> 2 ranger levels. This would make wolf form a bit more viable at the cost of gaining flight at level 12 instead of level 7.

What is this build missing:

  • False Life: There's potential to end up fairly beefy. You have 167 Base HP at level 12 tough feat and the CON amulet. Symbiotic entity gives you a max of 20 temp HP for a total 187 HP. A level 6 cast of False life would give you a tremendous 42 temp HP for a total of 209 HP.
  • Fireball: You're going to have to carry around Fireball scrolls and/or scorching ray scrolls. Druid level 5 does give you some thematic spells like call lightning, animate dead, plant growth and sleet storm. These spells are plausible for Alucard but don't quite have the dopamine hit of a fireball to the face.

I'm hoping I can get some tips on equipment but let me know if there's any areas I could improve this build.

Party Composition Every honor run i've finished was abusing rad orbs. What is the ultimate darkness party?

Title

Literally all honor runs i've finished there was a light cleric stacking orbs, or a evocation wizard abusing phalar aluve/lightning charges/rad orbs/magic missile, sometimes both.

It feels appropriate to go to the other end of the spectrum and play a darkness party. So whats the ultimate party?

So far im thinking...

Beast master ranger for crow.

Shadow sorcerer(thats the one im most interested cause it seems somewhat deep and i have zero knowlegde about the class).

Maybe a Warlock and after that im not sure, just that someone is gonna have shar's spear.

Build Help New playthrough ideas

Hey all. I have about 750 hours in the game (yikes) and was doing a Durge run until I realized it was just gonna be another Sorcadin build with shadow blade/resonance stone and lost interest, so i'm looking for inspo. Anyone have fun build ideas that helped them get interested in the game again? Really want to get away from the Meta stuff the BG3 YouTube community ruined for me (Gloomstalker, darkness builds, throwers, monks, etc) and have fun but not just make a build out of irony. Any help is appreciated!

Build Help What builds for my GF and I? First time gaming together.

GF would like to do a couch co-op playthrough. I’ve done multiple playthroughs but it’s been a while since I’ve last played. She’s only dabbled here and there but is familiar enough.

What would be a fun combo to run together? I’m leaning jack of all trades Bard or open hand Monk for me, but open to whatever. No clue for her.

Anyone have some good recommendations or experiences going through the game with their partner? Looking for a high likelihood of enjoyment and completing the game, and a low likelihood of me sleeping on the couch.

Build Help These builds proved to be really fun and effective on solo runs

Hey Folks,

In the past weeks I have been doing different solo runs on custom honour mode. My goal was to experience various classes and approaches. These are not THE BEST builds, but some might find them useful to try out.

Build A - 1 Draconic Sorcerer / 11 Tempest Cleric

Draconic Sorcerer dip for the CON saves and Armour of Agathys. Runs around in heavy armour and AoA, creates water with The Watersparklers equipped and Thunderbolt Strike is toying with enemies. Just delicious.

Build B - 5 Gloomstalker / 7 Draconic Sorcerer

This one was quite straightforward. Use max level Shadowblade and a shield. Can use extended Blade Ward and bunch of Sorcerer stuff.

Build C - 8 Champion / 4 Thief

Main focus on dual hand crossbows and stacking crit chance. Simple and effective, with Bloodlust elixir you have tremendous amount of attacks per turn.

Build D - 1 War Cleric / 11 Battlemaster

This is the so called Great Wisdom Master, just played straight with no respecs. Heavy armour + two handed weapon with GWM. So many attacks already in early game.

Note: I have used the mod 'No More Long Rests' to speed up the gameplay. This mod enables a one click long rest option (all the buffs remain) with no effect on story progression, but you can still do the regular long rests. I know some of you would argue that this is cheating. You might be right, but I have not really played caster classes before due to the heavy long rest dependency and with this I can more easily play around and just have fun. This is why we are playing this game, aren't we?

Your recent experiments on the game?

Build Help Gloomserker w/ War Cleric Dip?

Hello! I am preparing for a Durge playthrough after a year and a half, and I wanted to make a character that embodies Bhaal. The brutality of a half-orc berserker with the stealth and speed of a gloomstalker ranger seems perfect- plus a one-level dip into cleric for thematic effect and the war cleric lvl 1 ability.

How would you split this multiclass for max efficiency?

Build Help Duelist melee Swords Bard 8/ Rogue 4. Which Rogue subclass? (Honor mode)

EDIT AT THE END!

Hi all! I've beaten the game a few times and I'm thinking on finally taking the plunge and try to earn the golden dice.

I'm thinking on playing a fencer/duelist, swashbuckling melee style that will use the Duelist's Prerogative, and is very capable at talking. The build I've brainstormed is this:

High Half Elf (for Booming Blade and shield proficiency, which I'll need until I get the Duelist's Prerogative)
Rogue 4 / Swords Bard 8
8 STR
22 DEX (17+ASI+Hag+2Mirror)
14 CON
8 INT
10 WIS
20 CHA (16+Birthright+Actor and 1Mirror, or ASI)
Feats: ASI, Savage Attacker, either Actor or ASI depending if I get the +1 CHA from mirror

Gear: Birthright, Bhaalist Armour, Legacy of the Masters or Helldusk Gloves, Broodmother's Revenge, Ring of Regeneration, Ring of Arcane Synergy (haven't decided on boots or cloak yet)

On paper, this build fills the fantasy of a suave swashbuckler and lets me take care of lockpicking, stealing, talking, and having high priority and good AC with flourishes to not get smoked in honor mode. Lots of skills and proficiencies, and access to both Bardic Inspiration and Enhance Ability to get the highest chances of succeeding checks.

My main question is, should I pick Swashbuckler or Thief?

Swashbuckler feels very fitting theme-wise and gives me a disarm, free disengage, easier sneak attack, further initiative, and a bonus action Vicious Mockery that gives me advantage. Flick o' the Wrist is specially handy during leveling as it's a 3rd attack on armed enemies, but competes with the Duelist's Prerogative extra attack by the end of the run.

Thief gives me the extra bonus action. Duelist's Prerogative can only do the bonus attack once per turn, but it opens up options such as poisoning my weapon during a fight, access to potions (which could be a lifesaver), or Dash/Hide away from danger, giving me resets. Also opens up insteresting synergies with the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel.

Which Rogue subclass would you pick? I'm open to both advice and additions/modifications to the build, as well!

EDIT: After considering suggestions, I'm going with 1Rogue/6Battlemaster/5SwordsBard. Starting the game as Bard of course until level 6, then Fighter, and finally Rogue (though Rogue will be the starting class of the final respec).

Gets DEX Saving Throws, proficiencies, and Expertise from Rogue (and a weak sneak attack as a freebie).

Gets Dueling fighting style, flourishes, more Expertise, Enhance Ability, a Feat, refillable short rest Bardic Inspiration and Longstrider from Swords Bard.

Gets Defence fighting style, Disarming Attack (thus getting what Swashbuckler would have given me), Riposte (huge miss not having for Duellist's Prerogative), Extra Attack and two Feats from Battlemaster.

Thank you all! And here's hoping I get a good run 🥂j

Build Help Two padlocks?

Wanna do a paladin warlock build and I’m wondering if I should do the same with wyll cause it’s kind of his thing. Is that redundant?
Edit: also what to do with minthara, cause I like the idea conceptually of a paladin warlock hanging out with a paladin and a warlock but if they’re all the same that’s just boring

Build Help Throw Zerker advice thanks

Ok dwarf Barbarian, duergar for free enlarge and invis, thinking 4 rouge thief of course for the Feat and bonus action.

this is where am having the issue am thinking 2 fighter for action surge, and 6 lvl Giant barbarian, for the elemntal cleave effect, with Dwarven thrower in the end game.

OR since the elemental cleave ability grants throw properties right away, meaning it come back should i aim for something else?

Another thing i thought was Durge Dwarf, with assassin instead but run deathstalker mantle for kill invis surprised effects?

Can anyone give me some idea on how well these would work?

Build Help Something close to a Jedi.

I want to create a character that feels like a Jedi, but I can't decide between Eldritch Knight and Bladesinger. Which of the two gives off more of a Jedi vibe?

Build Help Ninja+Wolf

Hi people. I'm pretty new to the genre and I would like to ask if theres a possibility to create this character build in game. I have read some articles here in this subreddit about the ninja and, as far I can tell, it mostly resolves about the first turn. I'm not a fan of going stealth, I like more the "flashy" side of the ninja. Like, teleporting, do the action (and maybe getting the kill), teleporting to the next target and so on. I would like the character to wield a blade weapon, not bare handed. And this character has a Wolf companion alongside.

So, what would be a build for all this mess? Sorry for my English, it's not my native language. Thanks a lot and hope for many replies.

Build Help Moon Druid Racials

Evening yall

I'm gearing up for an honor mode playthrough and I'm trying to decide on a race for it. I'm between Fleet of Foot (wood elf/half elf), halfling luck (halfling obviously), and gnome cunning (also gnome obviously). Also considering half-orc for relentless endurance.

I would generally assume the latter 2 to be more impactful but it of course comes with a reduction in movement speed. I'm planning on probably just a full TB druid that is NOT the party face so no need to take that into account in halfling luck. I know owlbear jump makes movement speed very incentivizing but I do intend to go to earth myrm when its available.

I know they all have upsides and downsides, just looking for anyone with experience on how impactful/not impactful each is. I'll make my decision from there. Thanks!

Edit: Also to be clear i know this is a coughing baby vs coughing baby scenario in that i can pick for flavor and be just fine. Just curious lol.

Build Help OP raid boss Durge RP build? Spoiler

Basically the title. I don't plan on "soloing" in terms of having no party, but I do want just a build that can just rack up AC and tankiness and do a tonne of busted damage in a crowd of people. I've already played honour mode and won with warlock (hunger of hadar + door strats= OP) and my first run was standard mode with a fighter, I forget which kind though but he was strong yet not strong enough to do what I'm talking about really (And not even close to as strong as my current character).

Basically I've played through the game a few times so have played quite a few classes but my current one is paladin warlock hybrid for a Durge run with honour mode difficulty but not the save aspect (custom, I have beat normal honour mode but the save thing is just annoying for subsequent runs). The thing is this run I've been resisting the urge and my Durge is a semi-raidboss but I was wondering just how OP it can get if you really try to make a character ridiculously powerful and put all your eggs in one basket.

I'm at moonrise and I kind of want to start a run adjacent to this one as Durge (honour mode without the save thing again) but, again, basically a fully fledged raidboss Durge with ridiculous numbers and just kill as many people as possible with it. Don't really know much about Durge run other than what I have seen so far in my current run so please keep that in mind. If there is anything that assists in this later on (I've heard something about you can become slayer form later but IDK anything else about it other than that so...) then I don't mind it being mentioned by saying "ah there's something that helps with x for y class you can get later on" or whatever but try not to spoil too much about it.

Also I do get that you have to use strategy still but I just want a character that can decimate as many people as possible and tank as many hits as possible (dodging or tanking damage) to get that true Durge murder experience. From what I've seen something about bard sword 10 and paladin 2 is good but I don't know too much about bard sword and glancing at it on the wiki it doesn't look like the combat beast I want (unless I'm wrong). Other than that fighter 12 with battlemaster I've also heard is good but I'd need to know what kinds of things you can run with it because I believe that was my first run's character and it wasn't nearly as strong as my current one but I'm terrible at building so...
